Ewwww! I love his programs, but now I can imagine his voice in my head talking about his poo-weight -
A new footwear store for East Dulwich

Beige crocs. That about sums up the "fashion" of East D -
I'm in a situation at the moment where I'm waiting on a job offer, having been down in London for over 3 months and not having much luck on the job front at all. Up until now I've been trying to remain upbeat. However, this company who are royally messing me around are starting to seriously wear down my optimistism (naivety!?!). I think I'm still hanging in there due to the salary offered, but they have wheeled me around on one mighty rollercoaster of a ride, and now i'm wondering if it's worth the stress. So I need cheering up! ... I could either go out and get p!ssed :)-D or rely on you guys to make me laugh and put it all in perspective... >:D< What horrible/funny job experiences have you had? Does time x distance = a funny experience?

I'm Bejing Olympic standard at this point in my career. Although I am still recovering from last Sat's bender where I didn't crawl into East D until 11am the next morning, with a Mc Donald's Breakkie firmly in-hand! I think I must have flown to that club in King's Cross!

How's everyone's Beer-Training been going? I managed to sneak in some 3 pints yesterday, and maybe some more tonight...

What about a Breakfast Cottage Pie: Grilled bacon and sausages, chopped and sliced. A tin of beans and a tin of beans and sausages. Mashed potato with milk, butter and cheese. Mix all the meats and beans together, top with mash, add more cheese on top and then bake. Kids love it! Who am I kidding, i'm 28 and i love it!

What about "Chessy Beans"?... Mmmmm...

"Don't you open that , because there's something down there!" And can anyone remember Orm and Cheep? None of my friends can ever remember this programme. It used to make me cry because Cheep couldn't fly! :(

When did people start using the term Savant instead of Autistic? I've only recently heard it, but now it seems to be the name preferred over Autistic, how come?

Whereabouts in Derby SteveT? I'm from Burton near Derby. Countryside = great Town/City life = pramface central! And spent 4 years in Brummieland too.

I'm not so sure about it being so great when you have no money. I'm feeling like I'm on some sort of house arrest right now. It's difficult to move without flashing some cash. I have walked my little bunions off for free, but there's only so far these size 7s will get me for free! Still love London however. It's a damn site better than where I'm from. God knows why the rentals moved from here to there! (!)

This sounds like the funniest shop ever!

So, how many people think that there decision to have kids or not to have kids, has been influenced by their parents?

I feel hostile towards french looking people today
VeryBerryCherry replied to Azul's topic in The Lounge
I find it a little strange that after all the comments about not calling people "gippos" or that big long thread a few days back about the guy on the train being racist towards Muffintop, that we will quite happily sit here and make such remarks about the French? What is the difference from those comments that were found offensive, and those above? What makes it "ok" to make these sorts of comment towards the French and not travellers or black people? I can't say I am too enamoured with the Parisians myself, but is it fair to make such comments? :) -

Mmmmm. Nearly bought some of them from the Saffer shop the other day -
It's taken me nearly ten friggin years to get down here. And now i'm here you are not getting rid of me. However, I could be tempted away by a lovely apartment in Krakow.

Ok, I am going to put my "cynical hat" on for a second. I love these ideas of bike rides and hikes etc... However, to me it seems like more sense to use the money they have to gather to enter, or the monetary cost for the resouces to do it, and just give that to the charity and not bother doing the challenge. >:D< That's not really a proper example of what I mean. Take these expensive fundraising celebrity auctions. If you add up the cost of the venues, publicity, food, drink, invitations, gift bags... yada yada yada not to mention the celebrities buying brand new clothes while they pawn old shoddy ones. Can't they just bloomin well use that money and give that to charity instead. I'm sure that would raise more than and of the proceeds of the auctions.

Cassius, I think you are spot on when you talk of the pressure of being a "good" parent. It must be like walking a tightrope across the Gran Canyon! I was chatting to my mum yesterday when she decidedto get all "deep n meaningful" on my @ss. After quite a few recent family traumas, which we are still working our way through, she was asking if she had been a "good" parent to my siblings and I? How could I answer that when 3 minutes earlier in the conversation she was telling me how my sister rang her upset and she ignored her and told her she was, too busy to listen right now! There's always been so much contradiction. I could never say she was a bad parent, she did the "best she could do" (her sentiments and mine). But yes, things were so far from perfect and her actions have had certain consequences. She makes me angry/frustrated/promise myself I'll never make the same mistakes (only brand new one's :-$) But I know how she's worked so hard to be the best parent she can, and can you ask for more than that? No. But then again, her actions would be my reasons for not wanting kids. I couldn't cope with that kind of pressure... and then to be worried for the rest of your life that doing "the best I can" had consequences that I could never imagine for my own kids. I couldn't put any child through that. I'll wait till my borther and sister have kids.. then I can corrupt them and walk away at bed time! Ha ha ha

Early hours marauders stealing Spare Tyres and Plants (Lounged)
VeryBerryCherry replied to Curmudgeon's topic in The Lounge
Thanks guys, yeah we figured it was more of an opportunist thing than a pre-meditated one. And we were very grateful to find only a phone missing and not laptops, TV, wallets, bank cards, which were all strewn aournd our usually "tidy" flat. So we can't moan really. Just be a little frustrated at our momentary stupidity. we even had a conversation a few weeks before where I was locking them before we went out and Mr VBC said, "Why bother locking them? Who's going to break into a 1st floor flat?" and I agreed. Serves us right for our complacency I suppose. Lesson learnt and only the tips of our fingers burnt :-$ -

I thought I'd do my > civic duty and warn you lot too. ------------------------------------------------------- We had an intruder in our 1st FLR FLAT last night! We live in the Hayes Grove area and we are in a 1st floor flat. We usually shut the patio doors in the bedroom and main room, but because it was so warm, they were open. We don't know what time it happened during the night, but somebody scaled the fences and our balcony and tried to sneak into our bedroom while we were asleep. They only managed to steel Mr VBC's phone off the radiator on the side! "Thankfully" (6) they didn't get any further because I don't think they excpected anyone to be in that room. But the thought of someone in our room was a scary enough thought. All windows are now locked, but we were put off with phoning the police as we couldn't imagine them actually being able to do anything about it. However, I'm sure there's foot/finger prints all over our balcony still. Has anyone else had some thing happen like this? -
I have to agree with Brendan a little on this. Some of them may have be selfish/tight/skint Benjaminty, which s fair enough. That's their karmic bag to deal with. However, I used to work in an office where there was some charity fundraising going around every other damn week and they were pretty much mandatory. Now that got my goat. Some days it could be some child charity, which I do support or some donkey orphanage, which to be honest, I couldn't give two figs for. I make my own contributions to charities, which are my choice alone, and many people have their own charities. So what you may think is a worthy cause may not necessarily be someone elses. I wouldn't get too peeved about it.

I'll have to go and have a read. I always get overwhelmed by reading threads that are pages long... best get stuck in. And then tidy up the kitchen from last night's cook-off! ;-)
