  1. Good call on The Cheshire Cheese, Quids. I really must take a walk around some of my old haunts soon as I'm sure the area has changed quite a bit since I worked there but I always found that the beauty of working in Holborn is that you're not that far away from Covent Garden and even better, Soho.
  2. Utter bollocks of course. It's quite possible the same things could have been said a century ago. Complete tosh. And, by the way, who facking cares?
  3. Err... oh, dear. I second Leather Lane market and a little gem of a pub down an ally way off Hatton Garden is The Mitre. http://www.timeout.com/london/bars-and-pubs/ye-olde-mitre-tavern
  4. I loved working in Holborn though it is 20 years since I did. You being at the Kingsway end you're not far from the Princess Louise. Not been in there for a very long time but it's beautiful old pub so you really should give a whirl.

  7. It's a new wine merchant specialising in French wine run by Bruno and Lou and the very best of luck to them. Wine tastings starting today and on Saturday and Sunday too. I've already got my eye on some gorgeous cognac. Get in. Fill yer boots.
  8. Great footage from Pathe News of Dulwich Village 1940. H VILLAGE aka GO TO IT
  9. We?re the famous Dulwich Hamlet, and we look like Tuscany! Tuscany! Tuscany! etc
  10. Never mind that... Man City are on another level to everyone else at the moment. The were absolutely brilliant and played superb football last night. OK a couple of decisions didn't go Spurs way and Rose should never have been sent off but I really don't think the score line would have been much different. I wonder if Chelsea will park the bus against them. They may have too.
  11. Some excellent songs too. All together now - "We hate a Tooting & Mitcham..."
  12. Yep, I've been to the last couple of home games and I hadn't been since I was about 12. I'm hooked now and gonna be a regular too. Pink and blue army!
  13. Oh dearie me... just listened to the full horror of the Lennon/Bowie cod reggae of Let's Twist Again. Just awful.

Spot on. What were once two great pubs have been completely ruined so much so they no longer resemble pubs. The Clock House has had the most horrific makeover that makes it look like some awful ersatz pizza chain restaurant whilst The Dulwich Woodhouse resembles a Berni Inn from the 70s.
  15. Pah! Fecking lightweight.

  17. It worked before and it can work again.
  18. Yeah, of course you are.

  21. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I reckon a posh gastro pub would be the obvious > choice. > > Louisa. That would be good. Maybe not too posh though, eh. I remember when it was an excellent pub and they had a very good restaurant out the back and quite a posh bar as well. So much so that you had to wear a tie in there. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor used to eat in there in the 60s. It has a huge space for the garden where there is another bar and excellent parking facilities. I'd quite like to see it run on similar lines to The Great Exhibition. Makes perfect sense to me. And I only live around the corner so would be very good to have somewhere nearby to for a few ales and maybe a bit of nosh.
  22. You should get out more Alan.
  23. I'd forgotten about that. Glad you brought that up Pugwash. Poor George. bloody awful.
  24. Bring her too. Sorted.
  25. Fook me! What a nostalgia fest. It's always been good to me and I've lived in and around Dulwich all my life. I figure most of you here are harking back to some golden period in your life when you were young before you settled down, got married, had kids and got mortgaged up to the hilt. Life is still fun if you want it to be. Don't look back with rose tinted glasses. It's all good.
