  1. I had three heroes when I was growing up and they are still heroes to me now. First and foremost Muhammed Ali, a great man, a great fighter and someone who stood up for what he believed in. Jimmy Greaves, the greatest goalscorer this country has ever seen. 44 goals in 57 caps for England. Top goalscorer for every club he ever played for every season and scorer of over 100 league goals before he was 21. I wanted to be a footballer when I was a youngster and he was my biggest inspiration. Unfortunately, he quit playing when he was only 31 and I was just 13 at the time. Also, for overcoming his alcoholism and staying sober after hitting rock bottom and rebuilding his life. Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, the riff meister, a great songwriter, guitarist and someone who stuck two fingers up to authority and still quite clearly doesn't give a f**k.
  2. Blimey! So Mike Reed's a Liverpool fan eh? No wonder you remembered. Well done Keef.
  3. Yes, I saw that too. Uriah Rennie is worse than useless. I've seen better referees on Hackney Marshes. Reminded me and a couple of other punters in the pub of when Graham Poll celebrated a goal at Old Trafford when United scored.

Spooky!! Johan Djourou (on loan from Scum) tripped Dimitar Berbatov for our penalty. Spookier. No way was that a sending off for Robbie Keane. I don't like to slag referees as their job is hard enough as it is but that decision by Phil Dowd was very poor. It was a bad challenge but a booking would have sufficed. It helped turn the game around for Birmingham. I'm still totally gutted by the result as I thought we played really well but we still can't defend without Ledley King and once again we've conceded in the last minute. A cracking goal too, but a game we shouldn't have lost. An entertaining game for neutrals but torture for us Spurs fans.
  5. Father Ted?
  6. There's no future in the past. Have you considered onanism?

    Great Gigs

Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's last night was just jaw droppingly good. Awesome doesn't even come close to describing it. There were so many times when my mate and I who is a pretty nifty guitar player himself were left open mouthed in awe and wonder. "How the f**k does did he do that?" Just amazing. Here's a review from Jazzwise if you're interested. Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's
  8. I was living on the Dog Kennel Hill Estate at the time at the bottom by the railway line and several trees along there were completely uprooted leaving quite a few cars very badly damaged.

  10. So it's finally opened then. I've been wondering what that shop was going to be whilst peering over my pint in The Dog. I remember it as Ye Olde Village Tuck Shoppe from my misspent youth. Used to be dead easy to nick the sweets in there.
  11. Good post Paul. It's the kind of breathtaking hypocrisy we've come to expect from companies like E.on but that I guess is for another thread. Yes...back to the football. Come on you Spurs!
  12. *Is it Teddy Bear's Picnic Mockney?* *Sniggers, scratches nose, swallows deeply and leaves Quiet Room for Soho*
  13. Hear hear! Michael.
  14. *Take it Keef, I'm stoned already* *Grabs a beer chaser, pours more bourbon for Anna* *Slumps onto sofa and hopes someone in here has got something in the upwardly direction*
  15. *Pops into quiet room in need of stiff drink* *Isn't that Humphrey Bogart over there?* *Oh! hello Brendan, didn't recognise you in black & white.* *Lights up spliff, pours large Makers Mark for self and offers bottle around* *Ponders...thank f**k it's Friday*
  16. Brian Barwick sees an old lady in the street struggling with heavy shopping. "Can you manage love?" he asks. "It's OK", she says, "I don't want the job, thanks".

Yeah, there's nothing cheaper than cheapness as my mother used to say. Weatherspoons - *shudders*.

Wasn't it Dr Johnson who said "why on earth would I want to go abroad, I haven't seen all of England yet."
  19. Are you not wanting to tempt fate Anna by not predicting the Liverpool result? I think they should win it quite comfortably.

  21. Not that Beck Citizen, although I like him too. But this one from the Yardbirds' 60s guitar hero finishing school. Second only to Jimi Hendrix and he's been dead for 27 years. Under And Over Sideways Down
  22. After all you've been through to come out the other end with such positivity and passion in what you believe is right and good and to have rebuilt your life in such a way I can only applaud you. You're a top girl in my book and I'm full of admiration for you. Well done. You'd definitely get my vote.
  23. Well, first half wasn't good but the second half certainly made up for it.
  24. Hurrah! Just been confirmed I'm gonna see Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's tonight. Can't believe it. This is gonna be a bit special in such a small club. Get a load of this:- Beck's Bolero
  25. At half-time at White Hart Lane last night I thought Spurs were heading for an early exit from the UEFA Cup. We were very slow out of the traps and soon two-nil down. Second half was a different kettle of fish though. Jaunde Ramos made two substitutions at half-time and 20 minutes later we were 3-2 up. Very impressive. Six games without defeat now since he took over and things are looking up. But we need to sort out our defence as we have missed Ledley King big time this season.
