I can't be certain David but I'm pretty sure I had a pint of that or something sounding very similar in the Dog in Dulwich Village on Saturday afternoon and bloody splendid it was too. It was on draught by the way.
  2. Leeds United! Oh you poor man...you have my deepest sympathy. God! it must be tough. I have an ex-girlfriend who was a Leeds fan and it's very sad to see such a big club, although hated by so many in the Don Revie days, go into what would look like almost terminal decline.
  3. I agree with you there Sean. I can think of three or four people that I knew who commited suicide years ago and the feeling is definitely one of anger at the selfishness of such an act in their cases apart from one. A friend of mine had a nervous breakdown and quite frankly went quickly downhill soon afterwards and was diagnosed as a paranoid schizoprenic. He hung himself at the age of 25. It was ten days before his body was discovered. It still fills me with great sadness as he was such a lovely bloke before his illness.
  4. Touche! Annasfield. What an amazing match that was. It had everything.(tu)

I have played both games. I was an opening batsman for a local pub team (The Dog) many years ago and played for my school where Mike Edwards, a former opening batsman for Surrey alongside the great John Edrich was a teacher and my housemaster. But, as much as I do enjoy watching the occasional Test match I prefer the one day matches which are much more entertaining but it still, for me personally, for pure joy and excitement does not come close to football. Come on you Spurs!!!
  6. Sean, as much as I enjoy the rivalry between Spurs and Arsenal I think that's very naughty of you. Relegation for you now mate.>:D
  7. I'm liking this positivity on the forum about Spurs being dark horses. I'll be in one of the ED pubs early Saturday to watch the Sunderland v Spurs match and I already have a ticket for the first home game against Everton on Tuesday night. Yee har! Cant's wait. Okay much as I'd like Spurs to win the league I'm pretty sure we won't. We've always been a good cup team and that's where our chances lie. Still I think this year we could make the top four and here's my prediction. Man Utd Chelsea Spurs Liverpool I think the Arsenal are in a transitional period although they'll still be a tough propostion for anyone. I've enormous respect for Arsene Wenger who took them from being "boring boring Arsenal" to a team that plays an entertaining and fabulous passing game in much the same way that traditionally the likes of Spurs, West Ham and Liverpool have done for decades. Roll on Saturday. And for the cricket bores. Get your own thread.:))
  8. Yes, Keef, Malcolm. Very sad. It was an accident. I'll tell you about it on Friday at the drinks.
  9. I always thought it looked a bit like legoland but have grown to like it and I have a perfect view of it from my flat even though a pal of mine fell to his death there many moons ago after having too much to drink.
  10. Ah welcome back Ladygooner, trust you had a good time north o'er border. How do you think the Arsenal will fair this season without Henry, Lungburg etc this season?
  11. I bet you haven't been in since it's been done up Louisa have you? G & T for you, my pleasure. Now if you all want to carry on talking about White Stuff carry on but count me out. I've had enough.
  12. No need this should take in everyone.
  13. I didn't get anyone to defend me Louisa. Take a look at your post in your own thread about Mad Lizzie and you called me a "silly man" but get yourself down to the Plough on Friday and I'll even buy you a drink.
  14. Ah yes God himself...I really hope he does well at Cardiff City. He's been one of my favourite players down the years and I can see him scoring plenty of goals there and I think they have real potential to get themselves into the Premiership next season.
  15. Louisa, you've insulted me on a few occasions before and I'm not going to sink to your level and argue with you on a public forum. So don't be expecting an apology. I think you've given yourself enough rope to hang yourself anyway. Oh! and thanks for the support Sean, you're a top bloke and a master of diplomacy.
  16. Agree about the consistency of Liverpool Keef, who incidentally are a bit of second team for me as one of my nephews and especially his sister are Liverpool daft and I've always liked the way they play their football. But I think it will take quite some time for all the new players they've spent big money on to gel there although, obviously you'll be hoping they all settle in quickly especially Torres, but remember who it took nearly two seasons before Drogba started doing the business at Chelsea and if Shevchenko doesn't do it this season he'll be on his way back to Milan.
  17. Yeah, of course I forgot about George Burley at Gretna. Spurs though have really got some firepower up front now with the addition of Bent but I'd stick with Keane/Berbatov as first choice with the other two who could come on at any time and do the business. Could be a bit of rotation there, plenty of competition for places is always a good thing to keep 'em on their toes. A young lad who I think will impress this season with his skill and flair is the 18-year-old Adel Tarabht, who it would seem only knows how to go forward and has bags of tricks up his sleeve. When he came on last season against West Ham he changed the game. A great prospect.

  19. Ah yes Ted the fitba word. I got that from reading too much Irvine Welsh. I thought Hearts were doing really well until they stupidly got rid of Graham Rix a couple of years back, who had them playing good football and it looked as if for a while there they could break up the constant success of Rangers and Celtic but it's been a slow and painful ride for Hearts supporters ever since. It will be interesting to see how Gretna Green get on this season though in their first season in the top flight although losing four-nil at home wasn't a good start.
  20. I think you'll find there are quite a few Scots in ED, so feel free to post your thoughts. Tough on the Jambos that.
  21. At last a new football season is upon us this coming Saturday. I have been suffering serious withdrawal symptoms without my regular dose of the fitba or soccer as a certain former England captain has taken to calling it. Being a life-long Spurs fan I have very high hopes this season. I want qualification for the Champions League and of course it would be great if we could nick that by finishing above the Arsenal. I also want to us to win the UEFA Cup and if not then maybe one of the domestic ones like the FA Cup or League Cup. Not much to ask is it? Or is it? How will your team do? What expectations to you have? Will Steve McLaren's England qualify for the World Cup? Post here for all your football related thoughts and stories.
  22. Alternatively you could try The Mansion in Gipsy Hill, by the roundabout, which is very gay friendly and I beleive run by the same people who own the Rye Hotel.
  23. That's the best answer I've heard on the subject so far Brendan, couldn't agree with you more.
  24. I think this whole independent/chain thing is a form of inverted snobbery. I'd never heard of White Stuff until people started posting on here about it. All I care is that a shop sells decent quality goods at reasonable prices without exploiting it's workforce in some Third World sweat shop and has friendly staff and good customer service. I'm also fully aware of thier opening PR gambit at the beginning of this thread but why people feel the need complain is beyond me. They are now a shop on our main thoroughfare in East Dulwich and should be fully entitled to post on this forum whether you like it or not. I think I may have that cup of tea now.
  25. Thanks for the tip Louisa, but I already where glasses. Next time I go for a check-up though should I go Independent or the high street chain you suggest?
