Hmm, if we're to going to go into the realms of fantasy of what we picture Dulwich Mum to be like I view the lady as a married-with-a-couple-of-kids-Bridget Jones-type and I mean that in the nicest possible way of course. She's obviously the star of this Forum after all.
  2. Rejoice! I love Lorenzo's in Crystal Palace and a second one on Forest Hill Road is just what East Dulwich needs, a proper family run Italian restaurant. Yee Ha! I am delirously happy about this and can't wait for it to open. And within a short walking distance to home too. Marvellous.
  3. Yes Keef and Crystal Clear, Beauberry House used to be called Belair House in that wonderful building in Belair Park. I could make a list as long as your arm as to how bad that place is, so thank God someone else was paying on the few occasions that I went there, not that I'll ever be going back again whether someone else is paying or not.
  4. I was taken Zizzis in Beckenham last year and I can quite catagorically state that it was utter shite, but not quite as bad as Bella Pasta in the Village, so I am pleased that has now closed down, but I'm not overjoyed at the prospect of a Cafe Rouge as it's replacement. It seems rather odd to me that there isn't one decent restaurant in Dulwich Village and yes, I've been to Beauberry House and it was a pretty dreadful experience.
  5. I'd just like to unashamedly plug my mate Steve Overbury's book: Guns, Cash and Rock 'n' Roll - The Managers. Out this week, it's about managers in the music business. I subbed the first draft and was the first to read it and highly recommend it. www.gunscashandrocknroll.co.uk
  6. Sad but true Keef, sad but so very true.:)-D
  7. Actually it was just the potatoes. I have to agree with you there Bob, onion rings and nuggets are vile.
  8. Yeah, the Herne used to do that on Sundays before it got all ponsified.
  9. Well done, Keef and Mockney. I'm glad somebody's got the concept of Tapas right. It's nibbles with your drinks. Something on the side to soak up the alcohol. By the way I can also endorse El Rincon Latino, haven't been there for a while though as Barcelona is down the end of my street and that's very good too and I can just stagger back home afterwards and save myself a cab fare. Cheers. :)-D
  10. Hardly local though are they Rob?
  11. An independent music store would be an excellent idea. Perhaps they could have a sideline in second hand guitars as well.
  12. What I find amazing is that The Green is supposed to be the sister restaurant to Le Chardon which is excellent, probably my favourite in East Dulwich.
  13. The last time I went to the Green was a couple of years ago and had some very dodgy oysters, consequently I was sick as a dog within an hour and spent the next two days practically chained to the lavatory. I haven't been back since.
  14. I agree with you in principle Huguenot and of course we wouldn't want more of the same dreary little boxes to replace it. Also how can we be so sure that it is privately owned? If memory serves me well it was used as a children's home back in the early 60s.
  15. Excuse me we are talking about the same house here aren't we? Do you mean that dump opposite the church? Where an almost identical house was recently built right behind it. It's been like that for as long as I can remember and I'm certainly no spring chicken. It should have been done up decades ago and the fact it's been like that for so long is nothing short of a disgrace. It is such an eyesore. Sure, I'd love it if it was done up to it's former glory but I think it's rather too late in the day for that.
  16. Food and service is always very good, although I must say I haven't been there in a while despite living just 300 yards up the road.
  17. I heard Dave's sister Gaynor (who used to run Bolands in Herne Hill, now sadly defunct) is coming back to run that side of things.
  18. You can be whatever you like Keef. I was a frustrated musician myself once, now I'm just frustrated.
  19. Tragically, I work in the media and publishing. I'm quite artistic too. I'm not helping much here am I?
  20. I had no idea about her accent as I was only really on nodding terms with them. I live a few doors up from the house and would invariably bump into them now and again. They seemed a very nice couple.
  21. Mr Hancock and his Iranian wife and kids moved a couple of years ago. There is a young family living in the house now.
  22. Yes, the biggest house on the left 50 yards past Oddbins as you head towards the park. Opposite Pickwick Road. They were spotted in the Dog at around the same time so it could have been true, but it has passed into Dulwich myth and legend.
  23. I know the lane that you're all talking about here, and before you ask I don't indulge in such practices, it's been like that since the 60s. It used to be known as Lovers Lane then. It's the road that leads up to the Dulwich & Sydenham Golf Club just before the Toll Gate. I do hope this has put you out of your suspenders. Whoops! Sorry, Freudian slip. Oh! there I go again. I'll get me coat.
  24. Well, for the most part I think he's talking out of his arse. Sure, it could cut up a bit rough in the old days but I've always been a bit chameleon like and managed to blend in wherever I am without too much trouble. If he thinks ED is so bad I wonder what he would think about certain parts of Peckham, Camberwell and the Walworth Road.
  25. Terribly sorry Dulwich Mum but sometimes I just can't help myself. I do love to lower the tone. Happy Easter to you and I do so hope that the Easter Bunny brings you lots of chocolate.
