I was taken Zizzis in Beckenham last year and I can quite catagorically state that it was utter shite, but not quite as bad as Bella Pasta in the Village, so I am pleased that has now closed down, but I'm not overjoyed at the prospect of a Cafe Rouge as it's replacement. It seems rather odd to me that there isn't one decent restaurant in Dulwich Village and yes, I've been to Beauberry House and it was a pretty dreadful experience.

Well done, Keef and Mockney. I'm glad somebody's got the concept of Tapas right. It's nibbles with your drinks. Something on the side to soak up the alcohol. By the way I can also endorse El Rincon Latino, haven't been there for a while though as Barcelona is down the end of my street and that's very good too and I can just stagger back home afterwards and save myself a cab fare. An independent music store would be an excellent idea. Perhaps they could have a sideline in second hand guitars as well.

What I find amazing is that The Green is supposed to be the sister restaurant to Le Chardon which is excellent, probably my favourite in East Dulwich.

The last time I went to the Green was a couple of years ago and had some very dodgy oysters, consequently I was sick as a dog within an hour and spent the next two days practically chained to the lavatory. I haven't been back since.

I agree with you in principle Huguenot and of course we wouldn't want more of the same dreary little boxes to replace it. Also how can we be so sure that it is privately owned? If memory serves me well it was used as a children's home back in the early 60s.

Excuse me we are talking about the same house here aren't we? Do you mean that dump opposite the church? Where an almost identical house was recently built right behind it. It's been like that for as long as I can remember and I'm certainly no spring chicken. It should have been done up decades ago and the fact it's been like that for so long is nothing short of a disgrace. It is such an eyesore. Sure, I'd love it if it was done up to it's former glory but I think it's rather too late in the day for that.

Food and service is always very good, although I must say I haven't been there in a while despite living just 300 yards up the road.

I heard Dave's sister Gaynor (who used to run Bolands in Herne Hill, now sadly defunct) is coming back to run that side of things.

I had no idea about her accent as I was only really on nodding terms with them. I live a few doors up from the house and would invariably bump into them now and again. They seemed a very nice couple.

Mr Hancock and his Iranian wife and kids moved a couple of years ago. There is a young family living in the house now.

Yes, the biggest house on the left 50 yards past Oddbins as you head towards the park. Opposite Pickwick Road. They were spotted in the Dog at around the same time so it could have been true, but it has passed into Dulwich myth and legend.

I know the lane that you're all talking about here, and before you ask I don't indulge in such practices, it's been like that since the 60s. It used to be known as Lovers Lane then. It's the road that leads up to the Dulwich & Sydenham Golf Club just before the Toll Gate. I do hope this has put you out of your suspenders. Whoops! Sorry, Freudian slip. Oh! there I go again. Well, for the most part I think he's talking out of his arse. Sure, it could cut up a bit rough in the old days but I've always been a bit chameleon like and managed to blend in wherever I am without too much trouble. If he thinks ED is so bad I wonder what he would think about certain parts of Peckham, Camberwell and the Walworth Road.

And what's more I'd like to know what a PITA is too, seeing as I read the Indy as well, well the Sindy actually, but then I read the Daily Mirror and the Metro too, that way I get a good cross section of the news. By the way I think you'll find most of the clientele who used to drink in the ED boozers in the old days you'll probably find most of them up at the Plough or the Castle and probably the British Legion club in Barry Road, none of which appeals to me and I've lived in Dulwich most of my life.
