Always thought it got it's name (Dog Kennel Hill) from the kennels that used to be at the top of the hill, roughly on the site of Dog Kennel Hill school. I've seen pictures of the kennels in old history books and on postcards on ebay over the years.

How patronising! I'm sure that UK expats would be glad to be flown over to anywhere in the UK!

I do feel for you DiD. I've grown up with lots of cats and now have three that are part of our home. To get your cat down from the kitchen table I would calmly flick some water from the kitchen tap at her. She will soon associate the feel of water (which most cats hate) to not wanting to sit on the kitchen table or anywhere else.

What a terrible comment! My family used to shop at International as it was the Sainsburys of the day.

Never really listened to a radio show as don't have much time but Heart radio is my point of call for music as they play the real classics.

Southwark started Phase 1 and 2 a while ago due to school time congestion in the Goodrich Road area according to the website. Goodrich will probably become another school street parking thing to discourage parents from parking in the area. If this Phase 3 Dulwich scheme goes ahead it will create massive traffic problems and therefore pollution problems for people who are walking/cycling surely?

School children being mugged in Dulwich
hammerman replied to BlueOrchid's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Very alarming to hear about school children being mugged in Dulwich. Up until around 3 years ago there was always a local police officer/community warden presence around the Charter North Dulwich Secondary School. There was sometimes (maybe once every 6 months) a presence in the local vicinity and local park (Sunray). Maybe the local Neighbourhood Officers etc. need to make their presence more known to these predators. -

Sorry this has happened to you and hope you're ok. The motorcycle gangs are looking out for people on their phones and with earphones in (so oblivious to what's going on in their surroundings!) and I always warn anyone I know with earphones in to be aware of what's going on around them. The motorcycle gangs have been pretty rife in East Dulwich over the past year or two and I'm not sure what local Police have been doing to keep on top of it. -
The Charter School ED put a big advert in the SLP today about consultation for admission arrangements for September 2021 entry. They're proposing changes to the over-subscription criteria so looks like the school is pretty popular. Consultation closes on 31st January 2020. I can't do links but you can get a paper copy of the SLP in any newsagents or in Sainsburys to see the full advert.

I suppose that collection of Christmas trees that people are all too ready to dispose of as soon as Christmas is over is the least of Southwark's problems. There is a huge problem in Southwark around fly tipping which they are trying to stay on top of.

I've been called a troll on the EDF before but not sure what it means really. I hope the OP finds the backpack.

Did you report it to the Police?

Anywhere local to take Christmas cake?
hammerman replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Don't think food banks will take it for the reason you state. Other than putting it in your food waste bin you could chuck out some for the crows. The pair I've been feeding since they were young have finished off some Christmas Pud I left out yesterday. They were very vocal at my kitchen window this morning so they must have enjoyed it! -
Local councillors seem to have lost touch about local issues and would rather it all comes down to something to do with Brexit. I have had no support from local councillors and don't know which way to turn.
-
Just an observation about Sainsburys and their prices so nothing to do with Brexit really!

Thanks for posting this about the pub thing herne hilly. Maybe Southwark Council are bringing in the ?2 parking because of the knock on effect of local CPZs etc. Dulwich Village have escaped the CPZ so far but have suffered from the knock on effect of surrounding areas over the past couple of years. Even the Dulwich Society are not too sure about the pubinthepark thing according to their website. It would be the biggest ever event in the area and would create excessive noise, pollution, rubbish etc for local neighbours and far beyond. Surely the clean up afterwards would be a big cost for Southwark Council afterwards?

Little pots of jelly that I buy in Sainsburys and have been 55p a pot have suddenly increased to 60p a pot. Didn't notice until I got home and saw on receipt.
