It was porridge in the morning, soup and bread later....balancing on scaffolding poles for lavs, separated by sacking that blew around in the wind...and the farmer left containers of scrumpy out for free!

The only thing that would work would be to fine speeding cars a LOT of money and slap on the points- the 20mph is another joke...
  4. when their own vehicles sit idling in OUR back streets then I consider this spending of the Road budget a complete joke. Today at 12.35ish, a Southwark Van in Cyrena Road idled whilst I very slowly walked the length of the road (round the corner from Heber School btw) registration EY18 YGE. I have also seen them in Sainsbury's Car park....sitting there on the phone with the engines running.

  6. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-16567959 Hasn't the Mayor some say in how the budget is actually spent now?
  7. I'm surprised at the number of people who do not lock the mortice when they are indoors as each insurance company I have used in the last 20 years have specified using a BS mortice lock and a Yale lock on the front door and window locks and at least triple bolts on the french windows etc etc in order to actually BE insured
  8. since the nearest place open on a Sunday is the Fox on the Hill they could have been left there, or next door in the hospital.

( I didn't know the gorgeous Gerrard Butler was a Scot) https://www.londonstranger.com/multi-cultural-london/scottish-in-london
  10. Problem is -EVERYONE wants to live in London.
  11. I don't know when it started but in schools there is a 'use it or lose it' culture. Every year we are allocated an IT specific budget which has to be spent on IT in that year in our department- or we lose it- and the fear is that when it's gone, it's gone so stuff is purchased for the sake of it. I daresay this phenomenon occurs all over the public sector....
  12. At least one on Crystal Palace Road
  13. we had a woman and a lad knock with the jump story about 2 months ago. It must be successful if they are still doing the rounds...just thought it was a scam and didn't donate because people usually get the money from relatives or teachers in my experience- if it's legit!
  14. As soon as Xmas is over they will start the Mayoral election canvassing and the other UK parish and council elections...so who to vote for carries on, surely?
  15. Do the companies that pay for the ads think that the cab is driving around London- I wonder?
  16. It's the 400th Celebration of the Foundation of Edward Alleyn's Foundation this year- how long have you been here? you can move. I've been surrounded by building works in my residence for 5 years- so 3 months is nothing. People forego expensive holidays, cars etc to send their children to these schools...unless you are as well off as Bob Geldof or Paul Greengrass, or Timothy West and Prunella Scales....
  17. they are actually decreasing on Crystal Palace Road. /forum/read.php?5,1982358,2009161#msg-2009161
  18. I think of Lincoln Rhyme- he's got a pair nesting on his apartment window sill...

I remember all those Public Sector jobs...they were referred to as 'non-jobs' Labour went for quantity, not quality http://www.solfed.org.uk/catalyst/more-crap-jobs-than-ever-tony-blair-claims

    Mr Simms

It's a franchise so they may be able to charge what they like. There are no prices on their website. I bought a packet of Fisherman's Friends for 99p at Lakeside for another example
  21. We meet up with very old friends on Xmas eve My daughter does her tax return every Xmas day.....

Yes- as the EU have said recently that there will be a very basic trade deal with the UK if the UK does not accept Freedom of Movement.....obviously they view workers as part of a trade deal. Anyone worth their salt, possessing skills and speaking a language would be welcome to work in most countries.
  23. I would contact the head of school as this is a clear case of bullying against the so-called immature girl- you never know-her parent may have already expressed concerns...it is the 2 who are ganging up who are the immature ones and hopefully your daughter will not be dragged into the awful behaviour against another child. As a teacher I have had to intervene when groups of girls discuss others' clothes, hair etc. in a critical way when the girl is not present. They do not understand that this is also bullying (even at age 15) as it colours their attitude towards the victim when they are altogether. I wish you well because this is nasty and how would you feel if one day the pair turn on your daughter? It is great that your daughter can confide in you
  24. I will go there. Thank you
  25. Revived as it's coming up to Christmas and the queues are out the door. I turned up there just to get a proof of posting (5 second operation) and was happy to see a man at the front till as he can do the proof from there. He was serving 2 people who had wrapping paper- he collects the people from the queue who do not need special service. I asked if he was doing proof of posting and he said he was going down the queue (so I got on the end- even though the proof takes 5 seconds and I am obviously not a spring chicken) He asked the first person in the queue and they needed the counter. He went back to the front till to get something from under the till and then disappeared out the back. Then he pottered about and did not ask anyone else from the massive queue so I ended up waiting there 15 minutes unnecessarily. (I did notice the absolutely filthy state of the fans- the leading edges were black and filthy- gross)
