  1. The book burning one is Fahrenheit 451. Brave New World is a must read- the Deltas are an interesting group... Minority Report film based on a book by Philip K Dick is about how the police preempt crimes using psychics... Paving over gardens in cities should be banned

Yes. totally agree, but unfortunately we are all still inadvertently helping to perpetuate the mythology through our taxes helping to pay for 'religious' schools- it makes me sick to my stomach. (sorry -off topic)

Yes- have any of you ever been caught up in the chaos around Francesca Cabrini school near Forest Hill?

  6. I wish someone would ban the New Year's Eve fireworks- all that money going up in smoke, my journey into North London disrupted..it was OK on Millenium Night but every year- no way!I blame the lack of proper chemistry lessons in school- most of us older folks got to play around with magnesium etc in year 10

Dont forget Southwark waive through planning for blocks of flats and all kinds of buildings' conversions- and each household requires a separate mains water supply- uphill most of the time. The infrastructure is ALWAYS the last thing to be considered...it's a pity they didn't think it was going to be a serious issue before all the planning applications in the area were agreed!

In the 1980s when my kids were small I used to knit for a designer who supplied Harvey Nicks. They had a 150% mark up on the goods she sold them. One day I decided to calculate my rate of hourly pay....2p an hour, yes, 2p per hour.. and I was by no means a slow knitter. In order to make any money the designer- a young Scots girl who lived in a 2 bedroomed flat in Brixton, had to purchase the wool in such bulk that it filled an entire room.

Interesting- if your child is diagnosed with ADHD then the support network is pretty good and you get extra time for exams and you can do the exams in a separate room from other people. Unis and schools get extra money for such students so it is to be encouraged surely....it's probably impossible to 'train' your child to be autistic though. There is a category of child behaviour called 'oppositional defiant disorder' - does what it says on the tin....I expect children could easily be brought up to be like that. My mum always said I was 'defiant' but you just had to live with it when I was growing up.

  13. Just for the record I would like to say that you will get no contributions from people who are renting because they are not allowed to put stuff up on their walls....
  14. I don't know about today but when my kids were at the Hamlet and the infant school in the Village loads of parents drove their kids there. My next door neighbour always drove her kids there in the Volvo estate and it was only a 15 minute walk at the most. Also there were a lot of mums who had to drop young kids off at one or two schools and then drive to work or they would not have been in time...in the main you are talking about removing hard won freedoms from working women
  15. Some interesting facts about the abundance, persistence and impact of the top 10 'greenhouse gases'.... https://www.thoughtco.com/worst-greenhouse-gases-606789

Threat too...totally unnecessary in a rare green space- are the council going to send out the graffiti clean up crew?
  20. I quite understand where you are coming from JL Dulwich. I was in a supermarket and suddenly a trolley was rammed into my back. The child who looked about 5 was looking as if he was going to do it again and I said to him 'stop that, go away'. The 'mother' suddenly appeared with another woman and they both started swearing at ME in front of the child for telling a 3 year old to 'go away'. I could not help but ask them why they thought it OK to use foul language in front of a 3 year old which really set them off!. I'm afraid there is a hard core of parents out there who think the sun shines out of their child's backside....either that or they are too lazy to do the right thing
  21. Was on holiday this time but will look out for the next one
  22. I have seen lots of red admirals this year but only AFTER the Butterfly Count was finished. They like buddleia
  23. An episode of Dempsey and Makepiece was filmed in Eynella Road in the 1980s. One of the cast had a birthday and someone sent a 'roly poly gram'. They removed the front window of a house in the road to film.
