House raided on Silvester Road Last month
Tony.London Suburbs replied to simlqd's topic in The Lounge
Do you also happen to know what happened to the French bird who lived halfway up Barry Road in the Late 1980's? Nice sort. Would be about 45 now. -
Maybe a bench with a small plaque on it to recognise a favourite place where she frequently liked to visit.

Having toured London ( admittedly non-rush hours!) quite extensively this summer I have nothing but praise for the frequency of Tube trains on most routes throughout the extensive network. A typical example was passing through the platform for "High Barnet" on the Northern Line and seeing the FOURTH train was due in eight minutes and this wasn't rush hour at all. People only seem to comment when there are problems with our services but I give our Underground 9/10, though it could be cleaner... Buses? You guys have more patience than me. Most drivers seem to be adept at consistently (deliberately?) getting the Red light at Traffic Lights. Buses often can't get to reach their own lanes and are stuck in single file traffic ( Peckham to Camberwell being a good example). Uncomfortable in the heat, in traffic, as well. On the rare occassions where they do progress quite well, there is always a chance that "this bus is stopping briefly to regulate the service"....:-$

Sandperson Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Blimey! People think Peckham is dangerous now! ::o When Peckham had its 5 Large notorious Estates was when it was at its nadir. Positively Middle-Class and a safe haven, circa 2009, by comparison. -
Living in the most exciting City in the World should mean that everyday is pay day for everyone on here.

Thanks to all the guys buried/cremated in Golders Green in their thousands that I visited yesterday. So many of their lives seemed significant and memorable and re-empthasised the need to enjoy every remaining minute of our own existence. Thanks to all the wonderful people and places I saw in Hampstead Garden Suburb yesterday who showed me how relaxing life can be, for some. (their money might just have something to do with that). Very impressive. Thanks to all the driven folks I saw all over Hampstead Heath and thanks to all the other people I observed in Hampstead, itself, who demonstrated that many DO live in a "parellel universe" to the lives led by the majority of others. No-one seemed to have a care in the World. Thanks to Golders Greenfor prooving what a vibrant and energising place London can be. Thanks to the Lord for providing the sunshine and our good health to enjoy all of the above.

WANTED : Advice on getting rid of slugs..
Tony.London Suburbs replied to Strawbs's topic in The Lounge
"Rain dance does the trick - but washes out African music festival" Contact your local Rain Dance Specialist, who will produce the required levels of rain to ensure that the slugs emerge into the open spaces of your garden. Provide your own spade and slit each slug squarely into 2 pieces. n.b. Please empthasise to the Rain Doctor that they shouldn't overdo it, as they did in forcing the abandonment of the music festival, mentioned above. The slugs won't re-offend. -
nashoi Wrote: I've no idea how accurate the following figures are but I did smile when I heard them some years ago, apparently 50% of aid to the developing world is stolen by corrupt officials, and 50% of the World Bank aid budget goes to consultants. Shows how wrong one can be. I've presumed its nearer 90% for Decades, in both cases. I wonder if someone can ask Bob Mugabe if he really needs an eleventh Palace in Zim.

Baby Boomers - The Largest Ever Smash and Grab
Tony.London Suburbs replied to Huguenot's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Born in 1954, so Guilty as Charged. I'm not into "denial" and have, absolutely no intention of retiring until I've seen off most of the Guys 20 years younger than me. Indeed I truly feel I'm just at the end of the beginning of my career. It was mainly others who committed those heinous crimes, not me. -
Try living in Chad, El Salvador, Southern Sudan, Paraquay or even Mexico and try to avoid an association with corruption on everystrata of society. We are not even Isthmian League, by comparison.

"Rampant Corruption" ?? Absolute nonsense. The deafening outcry by the "Great" British Public, most of whom, if, say, 30 years or over, would get their snouts as far in the trough of greed that they could get away, that they would make the average current British Politician seem like a moral combination of Mother Theresa and Mary Whitehouse. Most of the "Great" British Public are just envious that they haven't had the opportunity to get a piece of the action themselves. n.b. I realise that the one exception to this sweeping generalisation in Britain are the majority of EDF readers and contributors, who, of course, would never dream of indulging in such nefarious and unsavoury activities.

Absolutely not! Right up there with "Tattoos" on my "Not in this particular lifetime list" though I did once see Clockwork Orange on a copy which was copy smuggled into The Peckham Odeon, which is now where Harris Academy, Peckham is, opposite the, er, eating establishments where people can buy their, er, food... Has to be food, what else would they sell there? Silly me...:-

I was contemplating a visit to Jodrell Bank but its going to be cloudy and will rain later. For some reason late last night I had the wrong Observatory on my mind. Of course I meant Greenwich Observatory not Jodrell Bank.
