  1. You can check bus routes and stops on the TFL site . The C10 is shown as stopping at Victoria coach station . http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/gettingaround/maps/buses/
  2. Well yes ,I've suggested that the timing might have been planned to reduce street sweeping costs .
  3. What do you mean by deserving ? I don't think The Charter school's admission policy is designed to rank applicants as to how deserving they are . Unless you mean deserving in terms of who fits their admissions policy most closely . And to ensure that happens a clear and fair policy is needed . Fair in the sense that if it states safe walking distance is a criteria that criteria should be applied in the same way to all safe walking routes ,not picking some and excluding others . Fair in the sense that where a judgement is called into question and referred through the proper channels the outcome is recognised by the school .
  4. Have you read the first judgement ? Any views on that ?
  5. And your views on the fact that after the first appeal regarding use of Wanless Rd was succesful ,the school carried on refusing to recognise the route and further appeals had to be brought ?
  6. Thank you for this Robin . For me I think the impact of the pollarding is greatly increased by it being done now and the sudden move from trees in full leaf to bare sticks . I have never known it be done at this time of year before . Will the RHS view that autumn is the worst time to carry out this work ( risk of fungal infections to the trees ) be considered when these protocols are discussed ?
  7. I just want to acknowledge the huge amount of work that must have been put in by those campaigning to get The Charter School to produce and abide by a fair and clear admissions policy . I imagine that individuals have also incurred the displeasure of the head ... a brave thing to do when one considers how much power the head has . For years the school have had appeals based on the question of whether a footpath can be considered as a safe walking route or whether the distance from school be measured by a much longer bus route . The appeals have been succesfully upheld but the school has persisted in refusing to recognising the route . The adjudicators exsaperation is clear from the first judgement https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B9GB1PQuo9iAODYyYzZiMWEtYzEzYS00Y2U3LWE4M2MtNTJiMzhiNjc5YzZl. All Southwark's secondary schools are their own admissions authorities ,this case illustrates that parents can't just assume that they are fairly administered and applied and that sometimes further action is needed . ( further action doesn't come close to conveying the huge amount of time and effort that must have gone into this ) . And for the record ,professionals who are paid to advise on admissions are referring to this latest judgement as a landmark ruling which has the potential to affect every admission authority using safe walking distance as an admission criteria .
  8. Thank you fairadmissions . The school do seem to be making heavy weather of producing a clear admissions policy . Well done those who went to the effort of raising this with the Adjudicator .
  9. Robin Crookshank Hilton wrote ( on stranded birds thread ) " There are discussions going on about whether severe pollarding is the best way to address regular tree maintenance " and " in addition to planning, trees are another one of my passions and I work very closely with the tree department. As Peckham Rose has suggested, I definitely intend to ask them to attend a Dulwich Community Council meeting " Robin - any more info on the discussions ? Can anyone contribute to them ? Has there been any outcome ? Will this be discussed at a CC meeting ?
  10. The RHS says "The least favourable time for pollarding is the autumn, as decay fungi may enter the pruning cuts ". But of course if pollarding is done prior to the annual autumn leaf fall I guess Southwark reduces the work load for street sweepers and saves money . I can't find words to express how unhappy I am to loose so much of these trees and to have the street scene so radically altered . I live in an upper flat and like you Becs can see every detail in the living room opposite me . I'm off to search for that thread on rescuing a nest as I believe there was mention of discussion of Southwarks tree pollarding policy at a Community council meeting .
  11. Low water pressure ? http://www.ariel.co.uk/faq/why_is_there_powder_left_in_my_dispensing_drawer.aspx Different reasons for different models ? Creda = remove blue divider thing http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=166656
  12. Surely any pollarding would reduce the amount of water needed . I don't understand why so much has to be taken off . I know they'll come back but we'll have all winter to look at them like this . I guess we still have trees but only for some of the year . The pollarded ones have the characteristics of a pole ,not a tree .
  13. I wish the contractor or some knowledgeable tree person would explain why they have to be quite so severely pollarded . I think they look awful .
  14. Another one here who raised the issue of the comedy bike lane with Southwark during the ( also comedy ) consultation . Cycling down Rye Lane is something I avoid ,using Bellenden Rd instead . In common with many others .
  15. Do the trees really have to be pruned/pollarded so severely ? I suppose they do ..... I know nothing about tree care .
  16. Well done Robin .
  17. Some of the trees in Barry Rd have been left with practically no leaves - near 157 and junction of Barry and Goodrich . Seems very harsh - are there any tree pollarding experts who could reassure that this is ok ?
  18. Good point Sue . Back to being grumpy....
  19. I've just received a letter notifying me of "some changes to the way my team in East Dulwich deliver to your address ". "What this means" is that I will recive my mail later or possibly earlier depending on where I am on the new delivery route . I have no complaints about my postal delivery and think the Royal Mail is a fantastic service . But I do wonder if there is any point in the composing and delivering of this letter . But perhaps I'm just grumpy .
  20. The noise of strimmers /chain saws and the smoke from land between Friern and Barry Rd is driving me mad . Please ,please let it stop soon .
  21. Tesco SIM ( O2 ) ,pay as you go ,Nokia http://phone-shop.tesco.com/mobile-phones-and-sim-cards/pay-as-you-go-phones/Tesco-Mobile-Nokia-100-215-7201 buy on line
  22. Yes yes to reposition the zebras ( though can you imagine the upheaval and time involved ! ). I always thought it was just me imagining them too close .
