Also, I thought the banding system meanst that academically able children would be identified and would be more likely to get into a school of their choice? But not if you're child is just average - in which case you'll need to live closer to the school in order to stand a chance of getting in than if you're academically able .

Anyone know whether we can put cat litter in brown bin ? I actually like my blue bin and prefer it to stacked ,messy blue boxes . But I suppose now we're all recycling more we don't need such a large green bin . But I'm not going down the route of asking for a smaller one - even more expense I reckon .

On my travels today I noticed that Barry Rd seemed to be still ungraced by the blue bins . ( I rather like the colour myself .) -

Sorry ratty - I was just reacting to the "what sods " bit ,but I was probably reading too much into to one sentence and a bit quick to leap to their defence !:) -

Bit harsh Ratty - they do a good job and always seem to me to work incredibly hard and fast . I imagine having a new system to introduce must initially complicate their work and impede them in their duties . -

Sue - the real excitement starts when pools of liquid collect at the bottom of the bin ( condensation I guess ) and the lid is all gunged up with coffee grounds . Guess who's not a good housekeeper :-$ ? -
Feedback on Kingsdale Foundation School

Am I allowed to say that I think it would be helpful to know the outcome of the investigation and when it might be given ? Or is that too close to the knuckle and possibly inviting discussion/opening up debate ? -

No there's really no room ,front door opens directly on to very narrow pavement . Her terrace is not even provided with wheelie bins in first place . Guess the idea must be to leave it out there ,suppose it seems alien idea because they've never had any bins before . But must be others in similar position ,wonder what answer could be ? -

so presumably we're supposed to just leave the compostible bags of food waste out overnight for foxes, cats etc to rip into? I would really like to hear Southwark's ( or anyone else's ) idea as to how food waste recycling will work for those people who have no space for any bins . As I've said before my mother is in this category - at the moment her mixed household waste is precariously ( plus carefully timed to co incide as nearly as poss to collection time )balanced on her windowsill . I would not want to start balancing bags of food waste there - smell through window and attraction of animals . -

On behalf of my mum I help her put a plastic bag on her window sill . But it has to be timed as close as possible to arrival of bin men . But it wouldn't take a brown mini food bin ( wouldn't fit ) and I think one of the thin ,compostible food bin bags provided would get attacked by birds/squirrels/rats . -

And if your door opens directly onto the pavement and you have no bin ? What happens ? -

Oh dear more stress for my elderly disabled mother who lives alone - she has enough trouble as it is . Her terrace of houses have no bins provided as pavement is too narrow ,front doors open directly onto pavement . It's a nightmare timing the putting out of the bag of rubbish ,can't be left out night before as gets ripped open by animals . And she can't see or bend over ,has very restricted hand and finger movements - my head is already aching at thought of all the reassuring her ,trying to work out how she ( with my help ) will cope . Anyone any experience of how to help elderly and/or disabled manage this ? -
we only have four sets of neighbouring households You're very lucky if where you live has only 4 sets of neighbours - I'm doing a mental reccy of where on Earth you could be that has only 4 neighbouring properties and , the rest presumably ( I know you didn't say this ,but I'm guessing that's the implication ) all out of earshot . I can think of a couple of locations around here that might fit that bill . Though of course nothing to say that you live round here - maybe you're on a remote island .:))

I am also in the market for a bike shed and would be interested in views.

AS results Kingsdale

Thanks happyED = I hadn't seen that quote . "An investigation by exam boards into claims of cheating at Kingsdale Foundation School in Dulwich is looking at vocational qualifications, after initially focusing on AS-levels and GCSEs so that results can be given out on time, said a source. It has been alleged pupils were given too much help with exams. Head Steve Morrison said awarding bodies were satisfied the integrity of GCSEs and AS-levels was not impaired" -
suzy I just wanted to say hope you're ok . Not sure how to put this ,but we're all posting saying well done you ,you've made the right decision ( which of course you have ) but I'm thinking what if he's come back and you're trying a reconciliation again . I'm sure this must often happen in situations like this ,that there are several attempts to seperate - and who knows maybe ocassional succesful reconciliations . But my point is ,I wouldn't now want you to be feeling doubly dreadful ,you've told people ,we've all said well done for initial steps towards seperation ,and if he has come back ( all supposition I know ) you'll maybe be back to square one and feeling unsupported . So fingers crossed for you my love , you've been so brave in bringing this out into the open ,please do get some professional support . Chin up ,you'll get there .
