intexasatthe moment replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The silence is a bit deafening isn't it ? Maybe the local papers will report on the results this week . -
Long time ago at the one o clock club a lovely child minder told me that she wasn't going to tell the mother that the child had said it's first word ,she wanted the mum to have that pleasure .

AS results Kingsdale

Thanks happyED = I hadn't seen that quote . "An investigation by exam boards into claims of cheating at Kingsdale Foundation School in Dulwich is looking at vocational qualifications, after initially focusing on AS-levels and GCSEs so that results can be given out on time, said a source. It has been alleged pupils were given too much help with exams. Head Steve Morrison said awarding bodies were satisfied the integrity of GCSEs and AS-levels was not impaired" -
suzy I just wanted to say hope you're ok . Not sure how to put this ,but we're all posting saying well done you ,you've made the right decision ( which of course you have ) but I'm thinking what if he's come back and you're trying a reconciliation again . I'm sure this must often happen in situations like this ,that there are several attempts to seperate - and who knows maybe ocassional succesful reconciliations . But my point is ,I wouldn't now want you to be feeling doubly dreadful ,you've told people ,we've all said well done for initial steps towards seperation ,and if he has come back ( all supposition I know ) you'll maybe be back to square one and feeling unsupported . So fingers crossed for you my love , you've been so brave in bringing this out into the open ,please do get some professional support . Chin up ,you'll get there .

No advice susyp ,but wanted to say ( like others ) that I'm sure you are doing the right thing . It must have taken so much strength ,every ounce of your energy to do this . You must be drained and in shock . But it was the right thing to do ,your daughter can't live with this and it's not a kindness or helpful to your husband to get away with his violent actions . Please ,please keep telling yourself that you are NOT at fault here . Have you a friend you can call ? Keep strong ,you know we're all sending you strength and love .

Where did you read that alice ? Have you got a link ? -
Does anyone know whether results for those taking AS this summer are /were affected by investigations into exam practice at Kingsdale ? Were the results good ?

Yesterday that section of road was open to pedestrains . Several of the shops in that section were open ,but not the Post Office . Shop next to Gregs that burnt out was Regens ,sold lingerie/bras etc . I'd be interested to know why 12 bus going up Dog Kennel Hill ,it's causing no end of misunderstandings ,as it's not clear if you board it before East Dulwich Rd where it's going .

So I guess the first step to knowing what you want is knowing what you don't want. Not sure I understand this or its relevance to my shock at the way courts are curently dealing with people . Take your point edhistory and thank you DJKillaqueen for expressing my thoughts more eloquently than I had managed to .

I really don't know Frankito - tag them ,release them on bail ,deal with them calmly and with due respect to law /previous judgements handed down ?

The national figures from the Ministry of Justice show that about 66% of those who have appeared in court have been remanded into custody to wait for another court hearing. The MoJ says this compares with an average remand figure of 10% for similar offences in 2010. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14504294 Just shocked by this knee jerk reaction - the ring leaders will get away . Those on the periphery will be punished for political effect ,to make an example . The effect on those involved in the looting will be to hardern the battle lines .

Massive crane gone now . Buses still diverted .

kidkruger - yes Khans is open .Very tired staff what with Ramadan and all the recent trouble .

LJ - I would advise coming home early . I'm just back in from Peckham and Camberwell . Shops in Peckham have been advised to close by police - whether they are just being cautious or they have some information I don't know . MacDonalds in Camberwell has closed and the manager told me that he'd had trouble in the Walworth Rd branch earlier today . Guy on bus just now trying to pick a fight with a middleaged guy " Why are you looking at me ? You're looking at me like a girl ..etc "

Can you recycle all those charity bags that
intexasatthe moment replied to Alan Medic's topic in The Lounge
Alan - following is from Southwark's website Plastic bags Plastic carrier bags are not biodegradable and stay buried in landfill sites for hundreds of years. Try and take reusable bags shopping. Plastic bags can be reused as bin liners for small bins or you can take them to bag recycling bins in large supermarkets. Otherwise, put them in your household refuse bin. so ,if the info is up to date ,and with Southwark you never know ,then I think it's a no to recycling those bags . -
Can anyone recommend one that is sympathetic towards mental health issues ? I know in theory that they all should be but just wondered if any individuals had been found to be more sympathetic than others .

I don't think that Fuschia was saying that the children were depressed - I read it as depression ( hers ) at the decision making process ,not being properly thought through . -

The posts on The Evening Standard article were taken down as well - wonder when we'll hear the outcome of the exam board investigation ? I can't believe that malpractice will be confirmed - surely too great an impact on the students who have sat exams ? I mean would they have to resit ? Which is not to say of course that there was no malpractice ,just that I can't believe that it'll be confirmed . -
Kingsdale being investigated for malpractice

Curly - my experience of the education system over the last 2 decades is that it is dominated by league tables and a narrow definition of what counts as a succesful school ,ie one that achieves good exam results by whatever means . My experience is that Headteachers and senior management put enormous pressure on teachers being expected for example to run booster classes at the weekend ,after school and in holidays for no extra pay . Improved grades for some may be a result but there is a loss ( IME ) of real learning ,real education and very often for the average student , of confidence as they are constantly made to feel that their grades are not good enough . The current system seeks to reduce education to a linear progression of targets that must be achieved - this is seen as good because it makes learning " measurable " and something which the teacher and insitution can be ranked and judged by . There is no allowance for the many who don't learn in a neat and tidy linear way and the need to show that targets are always being achieved and that one school is better than its neighbour forces people to find ways that circumvent the system . -
Blue recycling bin gone missing
intexasatthe moment replied to jenniejenjen10's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
sophiesofa - you can mix paper and glass ( and other recyclable stuff ) in same bin . Mixed recycling ?Kerbside properties will be able to mix all of their recyclable items together in one container, with no more need to separate out different waste types. Have a look here http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200084/recycling_and_waste/2212/service_changes
