  1. aah I was hopeful there ,and followed Salsaboy's instructions ,but it just goes straight to 15% and sticks there . Why do printers/their software seem so unstable ?
  2. No not the first time ,it has worked before ,but has been tempremental for some time ,not communicating . Seems to be communicating now ,but presumably is afflicted by shyness and will only flirt ( as good a reason as any for only allowing itself to go 15% of the way ....? )
  3. Oh yes ,all that . And when I click "troubleshoot " it says it can't find the problem .
  4. The box that appears when printing starts has a heading " Printing status " and it shows 15% .
  5. and won't progress . It's a Lexmark printer and Dell laptop and ,supposedly ,is connecting wirelessly through a hub . I really don't know much about this stuff ,just wondered if anyone had any tips ? I've updated the software ,if that makes any difference .
  6. As an aside - and I'm still finding this unbelievable - community wardens ( red tabardy coats ) knocked on the doors of the terrace where my mother lives to tell her and her neighbours that they are not allowed to put their bags of household refuse on their windowsills for health and safety reasons Their reasoning was that the wind might blow them off the windowsill . They feel that the bags should be on the pavement . ( of course ,where dogs and foxes can rip them open and pedestrians fall over them .) I hardly like to add that what is really needed is for Southwark to come and collect the bags - on the day they said they would would be nice ,but failing that ,another day . But that seems a bit churlish ,it's early days for the new system and I'm sure the few hiccups will soon be sorted .
  7. Don't know the answer to your question wod ,but sympathies . I miss my bike so much - 18 months on - and find myself doing same as you ,always looking .:'(
  8. oooh John - where ?
  9. Blimey - presumably the photo was taken at tea or lunch . They don't look to be rolling in the aisles with inebriation do they ?
  10. James - hooray ! my mother's small terrace is now back to weekly refuse collections and have been supplied with clear bags for mixed recycling . Thank you for your intervention . ( feeling slightly nervous though in posting this in case it results in hundreds of requests from others for similar arrangements . But I promise that this handful of properties were unusual in their circumstances .)
  11. I'd noticed this as well - assumed they'd not finished .
  12. Lidls in Peckham have currently got a neat metal pedal bin with two plastic containers/inserts .
  13. Do traffic wardens ever visit ? I frequently see them in other locations ,but have never seen any in Townley Rd . Though I avoid the road during term time because the coaches ,cars picking students up ,general congestion put me off .
  14. Lister is open on sats from 8pm http://www.southwarkpct.nhs.uk/our_services/gp_walk_in_centre
  15. Dorothy - but if the brightest/most academically succesful are in the minority then presumably ,in order to fill the higher bands the school would have to cast their net further afield than when filling the middle of the range bands for which presumably there are more candidates ? So wouldn't this mean that children qualifying for the higher bands have a greater chance of getting in to the school of their choice - because they don't have to live so close as the children who are average and therefore more numerous and therefore have greater competition ? Although .... the banding system the Harris Academies use is "referenced to the national distribution of ability " so presumably that means if a particular cohort contained a high percentage of very able children , a higher number than the "national distribution " then they'd find it harder to get a place ? I do think banding is complicated and not the neat divvying up of a group of applicants that it appears to be .
  16. Also, I thought the banding system meanst that academically able children would be identified and would be more likely to get into a school of their choice? But not if you're child is just average - in which case you'll need to live closer to the school in order to stand a chance of getting in than if you're academically able .
  17. oh quinnie don't ask ,I've also abandoned the window tearing out with great shouts of glee . Have no interest in delving into this and running the risk of someone telling us we have to go back to the dark days !
  18. Anyone know whether we can put cat litter in brown bin ? I actually like my blue bin and prefer it to stacked ,messy blue boxes . But I suppose now we're all recycling more we don't need such a large green bin . But I'm not going down the route of asking for a smaller one - even more expense I reckon .
  19. On my travels today I noticed that Barry Rd seemed to be still ungraced by the blue bins . ( I rather like the colour myself .)
  20. Sorry ratty - I was just reacting to the "what sods " bit ,but I was probably reading too much into to one sentence and a bit quick to leap to their defence !:)
  21. Bit harsh Ratty - they do a good job and always seem to me to work incredibly hard and fast . I imagine having a new system to introduce must initially complicate their work and impede them in their duties .
  22. Sue - the real excitement starts when pools of liquid collect at the bottom of the bin ( condensation I guess ) and the lid is all gunged up with coffee grounds . Guess who's not a good housekeeper :-$ ?
  23. Am I allowed to say that I think it would be helpful to know the outcome of the investigation and when it might be given ? Or is that too close to the knuckle and possibly inviting discussion/opening up debate ?
  24. Thank you James - email sent .
  25. No there's really no room ,front door opens directly on to very narrow pavement . Her terrace is not even provided with wheelie bins in first place . Guess the idea must be to leave it out there ,suppose it seems alien idea because they've never had any bins before . But must be others in similar position ,wonder what answer could be ?
