  1. "does so in order to be seen to be doing something with the building, as otherwise the council have grounds to claim the land." what are you basing this on ? don't mean this to sound rude ,genuinely interested .
  2. If it's in the way of a development and if planning agree TPO's can be removed with a condition made that they are replaced by some alternative planting . Unfortunately .
  3. two extracts from urban75 thread "Full marks to those who identified this Edwardian building as a dairy. It was designated a Locally Listed Building by Lambeth Council in 2012 - the listing description reads: 279 Rosendale Road SE24 9EJ - Arts and Crafts style former milk depot with attractive brick frontage building. 1906. banded fa?ade with buillseye windows. it is protected by the Peabody Estate Conservation Area designated in 1999." "Ok Buckle up. What you see are the remains of what was an Express milk depot. I lived on the estate next door from 1957 till around 25 years ago. We would hang out outside the dairy waiting for the electric milk floats to exit then help the milkman put the milk on residents doorsteps for a couple of bob. There was an express shop to the left and a milk machine where we could score chocolate milk.."
  4. PS cutting the ivy back is tricky - don't try it in hot or dry weather as it is incredibly dusty .
  5. We have a large wild plot next to us - mares tail ,bindweed ,brambles ,nettles ,ivy ,6 'high grass ,sycamores . I have learnt to live with it and enjoy the peace and quiet .I cut the ivy and pull out the weeds along my boundary .Though I do curse the sycamores . There are foxes and they do sometimes bring their food findings into my garden to eat which is not pleasant . But I tell myself that maybe they deter rats . There are a number of cats around ( we have 2 ourselves ) and they are ,and have been for many years ,fine .No fox attacks .And squirrels all seem to thrive . Hope this reassures you a bit ,try not to worry .
  6. This link has quite a lot of detail regarding the techniques used to get the boys out . https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/12/world/asia/thailand-cave-rescue-seals.html
  7. RPC no you didn't . As a Magnum lover you have more postive tendencies . edited to add ,and a cyclist !
  8. The rescue of the Thai boys and coach has not only brought nations together but also ................ RH and ITATM !
  9. Is anyone else depressed that the discussion of this event on the EDF has focussed on the culpability of the coach ?
  10. This is an interesting account http://www.foxnews.com/world/2018/07/11/ap-interview-us-rescuer-details-high-risk-thai-cave-mission.html It's not clear to me how the boys were transported ,it does seem they were really out of it - ketamine ? - and that for at least some of the time were on special stretchers that were attached to some kind of overhead "zip" line .
  11. I think in common with a lot of young men in Thailand ( particularly those whose parents have died as this person's had ) the young team coach had spent several years in a Buddhist monastery . He was used to meditating and helped his young charges to survive the 9/10 days in darkness to remain still and calm . I think regarding diseases they are concerned about those carried by rat droppings and bats .
  12. Right ,I'm off to Ilona's !
  13. Well due to a poster's reference to 4 for ?2 I am now mainlining Magnums . Dark with raspberry is top choice .Though not 4 for ?2. Looking in your direction RPC .
  14. Aren't architects supposed to consider such outcomes while working out the design ? Or don't architects figure in side returns ? edited to say sorry ,not v helpful with regard to the question
  15. What an upsetting thing to witness ,horrible for you . I hope none of the shot hit the fox . I don't know what to suggest - maybe the non urgent police line 101 . Obviously they can't do anything now but I imagine they would want to log details of someone taking pot shots from a car . Hope you can get some sleep after this .
  16. Fair enough ,thought this section was East Dulwich specific .
  17. That's a clear and helpful post Carrie . On a pedantic point ,shouldn't this thread be in the Lounge ?
  18. Dulwich Fox Thanks . Can only see overlap panels sold singly at B&Q ,but that's on line and might differ in store ?
  19. Doh - Whitten timber ,of course .I think the anti histamines may have disabled my few remaining brain cells . Thanks flocker .
  20. I see Wickes do sell single panels but ?+++ cf to Selco . I feel I'm missing something here .Or perhaps I've moved into that advanced phase of life where everything requires a sharp intake of breath and a " How much ! "
  21. malumbu ,I got some on line in the end . Agree with your comment about Shannons ,odd attitude .
  22. Only one and a half needed ,but most outlets seem to sell in packs . Selco looks good but to save me phoning them ,can anyone tell me if they only sell to "trade" ? Looking for close boarded . Very grateful for anyone's input .
  23. Thank you all for tips on bark and hayfever ! I ordered bark chippings on line in the end ,delivered in large cardboard box . re hayfever ,apparently vit c is a natural anti histamine . Difflam is very good ,but expensive ,it's " a locally acting analgesic and anti-inflammatory treatment for the relief of painful inflammatory conditions of the mouth and throat "
  24. Thanks beansprout . And for tea bag tip ,think I've read about using tea bags for something else - sun burn ?
  25. My eyes are too affected by high pollen count to google much . I want small chippings - cheapest ,best ? B&Q ? Lidls ??? Will be driven .
