  1. Thanks for update Sue . Like Blah blah I wonder why graphite used to be recommended ... maybe it was used when taking locks were also taken apart ,so not the danger of it clogging up the mechanism ? I trust Callow's though - I've always found them v helpful and like the way they try and mend/fix/things rather than just fitting a new lock .
  2. If it were me I would pop into Callow Locksmiths in Melbourne Grove and ask for their advice .I would take the key with me as they may be able to tell if it's worn . Or you could phone them 0208 299 4737 . And if you do could you share the advice on here ?
  3. My father always used graphite powder ,I use the graphite from a pencil .But I think the former is preferable .
  4. Clafoutis is easy and adaptable and not over sweet .You can add any fruit - I like cherries or apricots ,soaked in brandy or not . Make in ramekins or some kind of pie/lasagna dish . And i've seen this Milk Chocolate and Hazelnut Clafoutis: Melt 1 cup chopped milk chocolate in a large mixing bowl set above a simmering pot of water. Fold in the clafoutis batter until smooth and fully incorporated. Pour into a skillet or pie plate, sprinkle with 1/4 cup coarsely chopped hazelnuts, and bake. suggested ,doesn't appeal to me but ... https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/basic-clafoutis-51208430 INGREDIENTS 1 cup whole milk 3 eggs 1/2 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 tablespoons butter, melted 1/2 cup all-purpose flour PREPARATION 1. Preheat the oven to 325?F. In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and butter until the sugar is dissolved. Add the flour and whisk until smooth. Pour the batter into a cast iron skillet or pie pan. 2. Now add your favorite fruit or flavoring (see below). Bake until the clafoutis is beautifully puffed and golden, 35?40 minutes. Serve immediately.
  5. Wonder if impact will have caused anything more than cosmetic damage
  6. oh God we're not related are we RH ? ,one of my many brothers used to prize his compact edition and the bog standard version was my choice of accompaniment for the police station when being arrested .
  7. Thanks Alice . It's all too much for my small brain .
  8. I see that if you're changing at Canada Water to go to Canning Town you need to touch in at CW or get charged as though you've come from zone 1 . Someone tell me if I've missunderstood ,otherwise I'll assume I've intepreted correctly . Does seem a tiny bit likely to catch visitors out .
  9. Thanks ,that's what I thought ,just wasn't sure .
  10. I was comparing capped daily fares with weekly travel card options .
  11. Thank you ed . So ,sorry to be so dense ,but help an old lady travelling from Peckham Rye in zone 2 ? travelling from Honor Oak Park in zone 3 ? and whatever the answer is to my questions above do the zones remain the same if travelling from Canning Town back to Peckham Rye and Honor Oak ??
  12. Trying to establish for a visitor . ( Lord help the visitor trying to work out travel costs in London ) when I search it says 2/3 .
  13. I'm sure this is a noble exercise but ......Cuppa with a Copper ? Will the whole Dixon of Dock Green vibe be going on ,will there actually be bending of the knees and a reassuring "Evening all " .
  14. Guilty as charged -)
  15. For clarity I don't think my PM to Admin was me telling Admin ,but me expressing my opinion about someone else's thread "Well it's always going to be a matter of opinion but my point is that the thread was to my mind - and who knows as it was Sue who wrote it - about Thames Water ." Personally I think the thread should stay in the main section - it may be commenting on Thames Water's performance ( generically )but it is also commenting on that performance in East Dulwich specifically and how it affects residents there . But I'm not actually a fan of splitting hairs about threads qualifying for ED section or Lounge .
  16. I don't imagine this will stay here for long as not on topic ,but as we're discussing it ... is the title not part of the post ?
  17. I wonder if Admin can sense that not all posters share the dislike of a thread title that doesn't include enough detail for users to decide whether to open or not ?
  18. Thanks for updating and clarifying PeckhamRose.
  19. I think the post from ponderwoman was pointing out that there are other cruelties that can be objected to as well as the current terrapin situation . Not quite sure how you drew your rather strange conclusion from the post .But I guess meanings can get mangled in the written word .
  20. thanks sheff - prefer eyes on to TFL updates .
  21. At least the temperatures are low now ,if a strike needs to be called better now than back in the summer .
  22. Pugwash thanks - good to know that there are/should be procedures to avoid this sort of situation . I suppose it's possible that the person herself when it became obvious that she would be v late home fed up with waiting and longing to be out of the hospital and at home ,resisted attempts to get her to stay . And I suppose it's also possible that she dismissed the ambulance crew and didn't want them putting her to bed . I find it hard to think that the ambulance staff just abandonded her in her wheelchair at midnight . Well ,I hope there's more to the whole sorry event .
  23. then they phoned me to say district nurse couldn?t make it today would I give her injection - WHAT ! Now that I do find outrageous .
  24. I can't help thinking that even if this was the result of a failure on the agency/carer provision aspect - why discharge such a vunerable person in the middle of the night ?
  25. I can't believe that the hospital just discharged her without checking - something has surely gone wrong . Delayed hospital transport ?? Agency failure ? Promise of carer on discharge not delivered ? But definitely bring to attention of PALS ,hopefully they can find out what went wrong .
