I agree with you Galileo - many roads in East Dulwich are too narrow for vehicles to pass - the congestion ,road rage,car damage and pollution is not confined to streets near railway stations and is a widespread problem in ED . The proposed extension of yellow lines may help this by drastically reducing parking for any vehicle ,resident or not . Which won't make it easier for a resident to use their car . Pollution is a problem and I can understand S'warks motivation in wanting to reduce vehicle movements . Having a CPZ may reduce parking stress for some but won't reduce those movements ,but possibly increase them .

I'm thinking that having a CPZ in roads near East Dulwich station might in fact encourage car use ,especially for short journeys . Residents of those roads ,prior to a CPZ ,might have been discouraged from making short and medium trips because of difficulty parking on return . They might have been encouraged ,living so near a railway station and bus routes ,to use public transport instead . But with a CPZ they can pop out and back at will. And the domino effect will mean commuters driving further to look for car parking in neighbouring roads . Thoughts?

I guess we ( including myself ) need to take note of how S'wark have titled this consultation East Dulwich parking and healthier streets consultation . Guessing the reduction in parking spaces and attempt to reduce the amount of parking by non residents feeds into the "healthier streets" . It's not going to feed into improving my mental helth/mood ,that's for sure .

I mind the fact that it would be a lot harder for us to park our car (due to yellow lines round dropped curbs )much much more than forking out ?2.50 a week . Having to pay that for increased parking problems in my area so that ppl who have chosen to live in a street v near a railway station stretches my goodwill .

What am I missing ????

I support initiatives to discourage ppl driving children to school ,there is a distinction between using a vehicle solely to get a child to school and those who are dropping a child off and then continuing their journey to work/hospital appt/drop another child off at a different school . Obviously this isn't ideal but sometimes it's the only way that some can keep all the balls they are juggling up in the air . -
Much as Penguin has said . I think re open West Peckham thread as although some overlap is inevitable the main area and consultation are distinct and in danger of getting lost on what is now the main ED CPZ thread . There will always be some cross posting of comments on councillors threads as posters seek to draw attention to topical issues .

Eileen - it seems that the West Peckham CPZ was locked because it was about a CPZ and there were other threads about CPZ's . I guess ,even though they were threads about completely different CPZs the potential for duplication and confusion was there . I personally would have liked the West Peckham one to have remained ,moved to the Lounge where non East Dulwich matters are discussed ,but that's just a personal view and is not meant as a criticism of Admin for locking it!

I love looking at census returns on line .Took me some time to realise that once you've accessed one entry you can flick through the whole return . "I know comments have been made that spaces will be lost because of yellow lines across dropped kerbs" - it's the extending of double yellow lines either side of the dropped curb that is going to have a significant impact . Where there is a run of 2 or more dropped curbs the proposed extension of yellow lines wipes out the space between them where once a car parked . I really feel this is needless and I am not perusaded by the need to improve sight lines for cars using the dropped curb .

You move somewhere it's hard to park, campaign to privatise the road (giving Apcoa the right to milk a public amentity for their profit) and push traffic onto roads further out. How about we just accept that people have an equal right to use public space. " I completely agree .Have been wondering how to phrase my view ,glad that you've put into words what I think .

Jim do you mean that there are more available spaces to park ? What do you think is the reason for this ? I just don't understand how where I live ( might be different in other roads near the railway ) there will be an increase in parking spaces . Double yellow lines are proposed where there are currently none and we do not have a problem with commuters parking . There is always space to park .There won't be if the proposals are implemented .

It doesn't help me understand though ,how do 10 spoaces become 14 by marking out residents/pay and display spaces ? ( by the way when I say the proposed CPZ with residents parking and new waiting restrictions would remove 5 spaces near me I am not including "spaces" across dropped curbs )
