I don't share your optimism Sidhue . And a more permanent fix is planned from mid Feb to early March . SE22: LONDON ROAD What we are doing We are replacing a water main on LONDON ROAD as part of our mains replacement programme. Start Date 16 February 2019 End Date 9 March 2019 Days per week on site We are currently working here 5 day(s) per week. https://inyourarea.thameswater.co.uk/issue?id=I586 and is the gusher on Forest Hill Rd near Brenchley Gardens really all fixed as TW online seem to think ?

It's not all about commuter parking and it fizzling out or not the further away from the station . A CPZ in one area increases parking in adjacent roads .This has already been demonstrated . In addition S'wark propose to extend yellow lines in new CPZ areas ,this removes vehicle parking ,and guess what - increases both parking "stress" and vehicle movements .
-
"also if you need deliveries they can?t park, or you have friends or relatives coming to stay they can?t park anywhere near your home, tradespeople have to park ages away, or try to unload tools whilst parked in the middle of the road and then go and park ages away and walk back." This issue may be ameliorated for the few by the intro of a CPZ in streets around ED station but it will be shifted (by the domino effect and the increase in waiting restrictions around dropped curbs which it seems is now part of introducing a CPZ )to a much greater nos of streets where there is currently no problem . And where some of us chose to live ,deciding to forgo the convenience of having buses and a railway station on our doorstop for a greater ease of parking . The current propsals might reduce parking stress for a few ,increase it for many many more and increase vehicle movements .

I agree with you Galileo - many roads in East Dulwich are too narrow for vehicles to pass - the congestion ,road rage, car damage and pollution is not confined to streets near railway stations and is a widespread problem in ED . The proposed extension of yellow lines may help this by drastically reducing parking for any vehicle ,resident or not . Which won't make it easier for a resident to use their car . Pollution is a problem and I can understand S'warks motivation in wanting to reduce vehicle movements . Having a CPZ may reduce parking stress for some but won't reduce those movements ,but possibly increase them .

I'm thinking that having a CPZ in roads near East Dulwich station might in fact encourage car use ,especially for short journeys . Residents of those roads ,prior to a CPZ ,might have been discouraged from making short and medium trips because of difficulty parking on return . They might have been encouraged ,living so near a railway station and bus routes ,to use public transport instead . But with a CPZ they can pop out and back at will. And the domino effect will mean commuters driving further to look for car parking in neighbouring roads . Thoughts?

It will be the burst water main up towards the Horniman . http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,2005260 -
I guess we ( including myself ) need to take note of how S'wark have titled this consultation East Dulwich parking and healthier streets consultation . Guessing the reduction in parking spaces and attempt to reduce the amount of parking by non residents feeds into the "healthier streets" . It's not going to feed into improving my mental helth/mood ,that's for sure .

"I guess in some parts of the CPZ area it might make sense if there is nowhere to park due to commuter parking or whatever. I guess if thousands of people paying ?125 a year to park is the only way to solve that issue so be it?" I mind the fact that it would be a lot harder for us to park our car (due to yellow lines round dropped curbs )much much more than forking out ?2.50 a week . Having to pay that for increased parking problems in my area so that ppl who have chosen to live in a street v near a railway station stretches my goodwill .

"I watched people drive down Sydenham Hill this morning - discover no right turn (road layout means that?s only option) so they took a left" I'm so confused - I thought when you drove down Sydenham Hill (with recreation ground on your right ,estate on your left ) you could only turn left ? What am I missing ????

Southwark School Street Closure Scheme
intexasatthe moment replied to Passiflora's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I support initiatives to discourage ppl driving children to school ,there is a distinction between using a vehicle solely to get a child to school and those who are dropping a child off and then continuing their journey to work/hospital appt/drop another child off at a different school . Obviously this isn't ideal but sometimes it's the only way that some can keep all the balls they are juggling up in the air . -
Much as Penguin has said . I think re open West Peckham thread as although some overlap is inevitable the main area and consultation are distinct and in danger of getting lost on what is now the main ED CPZ thread . There will always be some cross posting of comments on councillors threads as posters seek to draw attention to topical issues .
-
Eileen - it seems that the West Peckham CPZ was locked because it was about a CPZ and there were other threads about CPZ's . I guess ,even though they were threads about completely different CPZs the potential for duplication and confusion was there . I personally would have liked the West Peckham one to have remained ,moved to the Lounge where non East Dulwich matters are discussed ,but that's just a personal view and is not meant as a criticism of Admin for locking it!

I love looking at census returns on line .Took me some time to realise that once you've accessed one entry you can flick through the whole return . The Victorian period is well documented in the census returns . lots of detail here ,especialy the Historic England/English Heritage report . http://peckhamheritage.org.uk/peckhams-history-and-heritage/ http://www.peckhamvision.org/wiki/Historic_Peckham https://research.historicengland.org.uk/redirect.aspx?id=7094|Central%20Peckham%20Historic%20Area%20Assessment

Peckham is not a banned word on his forum! Nothing was blocked by the Admin team. But the West Peckham thread was locked wasn't it ? Perhaps that's what Eileen had in mind .

"I know comments have been made that spaces will be lost because of yellow lines across dropped kerbs" - it's the extending of double yellow lines either side of the dropped curb that is going to have a significant impact . Where there is a run of 2 or more dropped curbs the proposed extension of yellow lines wipes out the space between them where once a car parked . I really feel this is needless and I am not perusaded by the need to improve sight lines for cars using the dropped curb .
