  1. rollflick thank you for that detailed and helpful post . And for being so measured ! I have nothing useful to add ,I objected years ago to the Adys Rd proposal .And also to the shared cycle way past Boots in Rye Lane . I'm not one for criticising Southwark but am increasingly finding reasons to do so - their approach to cycle ways is madness and insulting . I hope the legal challenge is succesful .
  2. If you live outside the zone and are worried that the CPZ will result in increased parking in your street buying a permit is unlikely to help as it won't guarantee a space . And the hope of parking in the zone will increasingly fade if the permits were sold to a wider public .
  3. Watching with interest .I've done it Blackwell Tunnel ,past Olympic Park and follow the signs . But there has to be a better way . Seemed so much simpler in my youth ,Leytonstone ,Epping Forest ,A11 and onwards .
  4. James I'm sure you're busy with the start of a new term ( I have no idea how you find any time to teach and do this ) but ....regarding diverted HGV etc because of Barry Rd works ,can you suggest what we could do/who we could contact ? I'm not clear how long the works will last ,Thames Water sign says January but I think bust stops say October . ": Vehicles on diversion new Posted by drunkmonk74 Today, 09:41AM I live on Kelmore Grove and twice now I've had to come out to move my car and motorbike to help large articulated lorries get through. Thanksfully I was at home and could help, otherwise I've no idea how they would have sorted themselves out. One time I only realised there was an issue as the lorry set off the alarm on my motorbike and I rushed out thinking someone was stealing it in the middle of the day. This is a serious issue, and to be honest, if it continues it will only be a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt, at which point something will be done, but by then it will be too late. I understand that road works/utility works need to happen, however someone should have taken the time to understand the types of vehicles that travel down Barry Road, before simply diverting all that traffic through narrow residential roads."
  5. I've never seen Alice troll on here . Possibly the asking for an update was awkwardly expressed ,things don't always come across as intended in a post . Keep going Patricia ,time will help a little . We're all wishing you well .
  6. Times have changed "At some stage, the pub was acquired by the Courage Brewery who rebuilt it in 1924 and renamed it the Grove Hotel. The Tudor style of house was taken as the pattern for the rebuilding of many of their pubs and the Grove Tavern the first to be rebuilt in this style. "This house with its gardens, bowling green, garden bar and band stand, a dancing rink and hard courts for tennis, is considered one of the most modern houses in the south of London, and is delightful inside, with its tea and saloon lounges, and other up-to-date appointments." http://www.exploringsouthwark.co.uk/bews-corner/4587659588
  7. I don't know if this link will work but this 1964 map shows a Goodrich Primary School annexe in FP . https://geo.southwark.gov.uk/connect/analyst/mobile/#/main?overlays=Planning
  8. philosophie if you want a discussion about whether ppl should have polarised views or not you should probably start a thread in The Lounge . This section is for ED specific issues .
  9. Are we sure it was Alleyn's ? I can't find any event listed on their website .
  10. Lovely display which I enjoyed BUT agree advance notice should have been given . Friend from Bristol staying with me at moment ,she lives near Clifton College and says that similar events are well publicised with ,for example , students being sent out to knock on doors in locality to advise neighbours .
  11. How are you doing Patricia ? Did Georgie get in touch ?
  12. Oh Patricia how awful ,you've lost most of your teeth ! You must be in shock '. Huge sympathy and hope you find the person who took photos .
  13. I think if you enclose it with a 10 ft wall ,access only possible via your garden and use it for about 12 years you would get ownership by adverse possesion . Would suggest you get wall built while they are out at work ,have one of those "wraps" that replicate the orginal installed to the rear of their house and they'll never notice or challenge the land grab . This lot https://graphics.cunninghamcovers.co.uk/building-wrap do stuff on the scale I think you'll need . And don't overlook the potential of air rights in your quest to improve your home .
  14. Have you had a look at Health Unlocked ? Normally pretty helpful though of course most posts are from ppl with problems rather than those who found treatment straightforward . https://healthunlocked.com/prostate-cancer-community https://healthunlocked.com/brachytherapy
  15. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfniCouTAhA at about 0.25 . not sure ......
  16. Sephiroth -'m not sure that my thoughts are sufficiently well informed to comment but .... in this extract I'm puzzled by the comment about a referendum campaign ,I thought Labour were against another referendum "Consider, for example this one: November election ? hung parliament needing negotiations that lead to a Labour minority government with confidence and supply from LibDems/ SNP ? negotiations begin with EU for a ?Labour Brexit?, interrupted by Christmas ? a new deal agreed ? a referendum campaign held ? the implementation of the result. In that sequence of events we will be well into next summer, presumably" and I would have welcomed some discussion of the Kinnock ammendment and it's significance .And Teresa May's last Withdrawal Agreement ,which I presume is the only proposed deal currently available . And what about the border in Ireland ? I'm sure my comments show how poor my grasp of all this is ,I'm woefully lost .
  17. Penguin - yes I had noticed ! That was my point -)
  18. Penguin I want to say how much I appreciate your posts . They are always so even handed and give a factual background . Any chance you could stand for PM ?
  19. duke thanks for posting link to planning letter . It seems comprehensive . Covers many of Southwark's concerns and the many omissions and what seems to me to be deliberate obfuscation by the developers .
  20. Although website says 25 September .
  21. Right ,well I limped down there with my bad leg and can confirm Barry Road closed to North/Peckham bound traffic from Tyrell Rd to T junction with Peckham Rye . No right turn from Barry Rd into Peckham Rye . Buses still travelling south up Barry Road with the first bus stop outside estate acents not in use . Works expected to continue until 25 Oct . I guess that was all too complicated to put on Thames Water website last night .
  22. I agree Tractorlad but certain members of the InTexas household refuse to listen to good sense . So I'm left wondering about the success of a route to work this morning which involved a right turn at bottom of Barry Rd .
  23. Impressed by the finding postives! Yes ,tricky . Could you ring and give feedback rather than an actual complaint ? Could you do it annoynomously ?
  24. I wouldn't know if it's normal but it doesn't sound very helpful . I wonder if a mirror on handlebars would help you with the looking behind ? It's a long time since I learnt to cycle so this may not be current good practice . And sympathies ,sounds v frightening .
  25. Anyone know whether a vehicle can turn right at bottom of Barry Road ,heading towards Honor Oak ?
