Our Healthy Streets ?Dulwich
intexasatthe moment replied to Jezza's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
On reflection ,although I've only just come across it I suppose the map was put up during the first phase of this exercise and I guess it's no longer available for raising new areas of concern . Though you can comment on ones already raised . Which leads me back to my earlier post today - drop ins / consultations /touring stall held in the Dulwich Village area ,responses from these allow S'wark to tell us what "our" concerns are . -

"I don't think North Cross road is in the highlighted area." like I said .parallel universe time . It seems to be within the boundaries of the area/map being considered but it appears that you can only add comments to locations which have already been commented on . I'd just click on the nearest dot and comment anyway . But I'm a bit odd . -

I think the point being missed is that if you have views on this subject ,as well as debating them on the EDF,if you want them considered by S'wark you need to post them on here https://ohs-dulwich.co.uk/road-safety-hotspot/53?map=true -

In my opinion consultations are a parallel ( and expensive ) universe . I've been trying to follow Southwark on this one Phase 1 saw a large area -Upland Rd/Peckham Rye in the North ,Underhill in the East ,Court Lane/Dulwich Village in the south,East Dulwich Grove /Townley Rd ,Lordship Lane in the N. West -discussed at Dulwich Library ,Dulwich Village and the Dulwich Fair . Lots of comments from Dulwich Village area . Junction of Barry Rd and Underhill identified as top priority ,road safety hotspot , junction of South Circular with Lordship Lane no safe crossing for pedestrians as second top priority "what you told us "https://www.southwark.gov.uk/transport-and-roads/roadworks-and-highway-improvements/street-improvements/our-healthy-streets-dulwich ) Phase 2 Public mtgs held at Alleyns School and Half Moon Lane . Focus is on area west of Lordship Lane and the priorities from Phase 1 are parked( see what I did there ) and key locations are Court Lane Calton Ave Dulwich Village,Townley Rd/East Dulwich Grove Lordship Lane , I'm not clear how the priorities were achieved in the "What you told us doc " but in the June doc "All Suggestions " priorities seem to be based on number of comments and Calton Ave j Court Lane with poor air quality knocks out the accident hot spot on Barry Rd and absence of crossing point at South Circular /Lordship Lane . I guess if in Phase 1 you take your " stall on a roadshow to Dulwich Library ,Dulwich Village and the Dulwich Fair " then you're likely to get mainly comments on that geographical area . I guess it may also shape the next phase of the consultation .Particularly if the demographic of that area is particularly articulate . The recent meeting at ChristChurch concerned a v narrow area and didn't stretch as far as the junction of Barry Rd and Underhill .No doubt comments collected there will be fed back to support priorities . I see that the Dulwich Village area has meetings scheduled for December .It would be great to have a schedule of when other areas will have feedback mtgs . As far as I can tell ( not v far I'm afraid ) this https://ohs-dulwich.co.uk/ allows comments on various locations and presumably they will be taken into consideration by Southwark . -

Public exposure in this way still smacks of taking the law into one's own hands . And I don't agree that if other mechanisms don't work that public exposure is the answer* - it is too open to abuse . I'm not sure if other mechanisms were tried here ? It might be difficult and tedious ( collecting evidence and following the law can be ) but there have been succesful prosecutions brought where photographic evidence has resulted in a conviction https://www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk/article/3499/Public-thanked-as-Great-Yarmouth-Borough-Council-secures-20th-dog-fouling-prosecution-in-under-three-years https://nappyvalleynet.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=97988 https://www.stroud.gov.uk/news-archive/dog-fouling-costs-owner-1-000-after-stroud-district-council-takes-him-to-court * I appreciate it was not put as strongly as that -

Thanks for clarifying . It was this post that I clearly misread. "What IS against the law - and socially uncool - is having yer dog shite on the MAIN SHOPPING STREET in the town. And other streets locally. Every day. For years." Another case of is it a remark general in nature or is it a rematk aimed at someone in particular .The joys of the written word . -

Two wrongs don't make a right . I really disliked the mindset of this thread which to me smacked v much of vigilantism and seemed to be being proposed ( even if in a light hearted way ) as an alternative to the stocks "the behaviour has to stop and short of putting somebody in the stocks and throwing rotten fruit at them it isn?t going to be fixed." I was surprised that Admin allowed the pic to go up in the first place and even more surprised by Admins's posts which to me seemed ambigious ( an ambiguity which wasn't clarified when I questioned it ) and easily intepreted as supporting this form of public stocks . -

"Oh, tell us more, how do they know each other?" - nothing to tell ,why do you ask ? For clarity - when I say "I'm sure" I'm using an expression . Couldn't prove it in a criminal court ,but as KK has pointed out ,this isn't one . -

I'm sure KK had a reason for posting ,I'm also sure that the woman isn't someone random to him . -

Not an answer Admin . Everything is debatable . I think this thread doesn't count as education ,as said I think it's a vehicle for punishing someone thought to have done something wrong . Debate away - what do you think ? -

To me this thread seems nothing more than an infliction of a punishment on someone . One person found to be guilty by another who decides on public humiliation as the way forward . I don't think the motive is highlighting an issue or educating people . And as said above ,great encouragement for some to extract vengence by posting images and making accusations that have not been sustantiated . -

So are you including the approach adopted by KK on here as a way of achieving the education you describe in your last sentence ? -

"Please direct your community spirit at those that leave the mess there, not at those that clear it up and raise it as an issue." Admin ,when you say "direct your community spirit at those that leave the mess " are you referring to posters on this thread ? It's not clear to me if you are making general comments or whether you are endorsing criticism of lucy123 What would be your direction on how "community spirit" should be displayed/put into action ? Would you be in favour of the approach adopted on this thread ? -

"People post photos and videos on the forum frequently, of people who's behaviour is suspect" are you sure ? I can only think of shots from cameras at front doors showing people at 3am or whatever entering their house or looking at parked cars . I don't recall anything similar to this ,pics of someone accused of not picking up after their dog . May have missed it . -

I hope Admin's "pick up your dog poo" is a general instruction and not directed specifically at lucy123 . -

Lucy maybe Admin would take your picture down if you asked them ? I'm surprised that posting an image of someone in this context ( by which I mean an unsubstantiated accusation ) is acceptable on a public forum . -
Just to say that I have rec'd an email re a drop in session tonight "Christ Church, Barry Rd from 7-8.30pm to look at options for our Healthy Streets proposals. These are a series of proposals the council will be implementing to tackle traffic, air pollution and speeding in the Dulwich area. The drop in session on Wednesday will mainly focus on Barry Rd and Etherow Street. You can also see the work we have done so far on the Healthy Streets consultation here: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/transport-and-roads/roadworks-and-highway-improvements/street-improvements/our-healthy-streets-dulwich "

If one were to regularly feed the crows on Peckham Rye and then rescue an injured one of their number would that crow then treat you like a friendly adopter ?
-
You think it is someones pet ? Could it have just sort of bonded with you as it's rescuer ? Or because it senses your innate kindness ? If it's domesticated do you think that's why the other crows were making such a fuss ? Rejecting a stranger ?

Anyone care to predict how much longer before Townley Rd is subsumed into the Foundation Schools Estate ?
