  2. Actually James ,my brother who knows everything ( and knows he does ) tells me that the twin engined planes are just conducting aerial mapping surveys .And I'm only noticing them now because of the drop in other air traffic . Because included in his all knowingness is a knowledge of what I am normally alert to .
  3. Thanks for that link James . A circling twin engined airplane was really disturbing my peace the other day .Not least because I couldn't imagine what it was up to . As for hearing a hum - no chance it's tinnitus is there ?
  4. I'm liking your thinking yorksgirl...
  5. What about the place at top of Barry Road in/adjacent to the church .I believe it houses refugees ?
  6. Wouldn't it be possible for Lambeth to pay security to man one entrance and allow access for say parents and children ? Lone joggers ? Similar control ? People working from home all week/those doing essential work outside the home without access to a garden must be desperate for some fresh air ,especially those with small children .
  7. OK...just seen this Sunbathing in public spaces is against the government's coronavirus social distancing rules, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said. "We're absolutely clear that you should not leave your home unless it's for one of four reasons: for medical reasons, to buy food, to go to work if you can't work at home and for exercise," Mr Hancock said. He added that the rules that have been set out for public health reasons were "backed up in law". "It is not a request, it is a requirement in law and people need to follow it," https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52172035 I've not been paying close enough attention .
  8. Some of the pictures I've seen relating to this show a lone man with no one else visible for metres and 2 police approaching him . I'm not sure what he was doing wrong ,sunbathing and not exercising I guess .
  9. Oh OP poor son and poor you .GP sounds unhelpful .Seems like a no brainer that antibiotics are needed .Hope you can just take old prescription to chemist - Krystals in Nunhead are v good .
  10. Difflam is v good for sore throats .I have a spare bottle if that helps . Has he tried gargling with salt water and /or dissolved aspirin ? But if he can't swallow water that sounds serious .
  11. Loving this creativity from India
  12. Guidance no longer viewable on the closed sections of EDF ,which is where I used to go to remind myself !
  13. This is an interesting look at the Diamond Princess cases . https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/03/16/diamond-princess-mysteries/ I have no idea how much ,if any ,credence can be given to it .
  14. WHO on masks https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public/when-and-how-to-use-masks "If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with suspected 2019-nCoV infection. Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing." Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. Cover mouth and nose with mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask. Avoid touching the mask while using it; if you do, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. Replace the mask with a new one as soon as it is damp and do not re-use single-use masks. To remove the mask: remove it from behind (do not touch the front of mask); discard immediately in a closed bin; clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. I would guess that few people have a close fitting mask covering mouth and nose ,that few take it off as carefully as they should and that many walk about with a damp warm mask where bugs will linger and breed . And that many wearing a mask will induce a false sense of security and that as a consequence they will not keep their distance from others as they should .
  15. It's a perfectly helpful post .Reminding people that they must keep their distance from others . It's clearly a reminder that's needed so is useful and helpful .
  16. Bloody hell . Good call Thunder ,it's SO helpful when asking for volunteers to be specific about what is needed .As you have been . Let us know of response .And who is the guy in the pics ????
  17. Yes SERIOUSLY . Do people not realise they are supposed to be LIMITING contact with others . So no markets and shops restricting numbers . And let people use their own bags !!!!!
  18. Sally - how lovely of you !
  19. I'm sure any government would struggle but the scenario where the experts were backing a let it spread a bit before we introduce more social distancing and then went "hang on a minute" lets look at the figures in Italy ,maybe time to change our mind ,just isn't reassuring . And while of course I wish her well ,isn't it rather early days in what we know of the infection's progress to be declaring Dorries' mother as recovered ? Chris Whitty citing it as a good news story smacks to me of scraping the barrel and desperation . Nadine was dx on the 10 March and reports came out on the 14th that her mother had also contracted the illness .
  20. In the first select committee on 5 March https://parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/a94cc1f0-4358-4a25-8b93-914675f6b9ff Jenny Harries, Deputy Chief Medical Office said that current capacity was 2,000 tests per day ( though i'm sure figures show more than that on some days ) and that it would increase to 10,000 from 13 March . Priority for testing needs to be given to HCP ,especially as there are now reports like this - "I treat patients who are proven to have coronavirus. One week ago, I was wearing full PPE [personal protective equipment]. That consists of a proper FFP3 mask [offering high respiratory protection], a visor, a surgical gown, and two pairs of gloves" "Now we?ve been told not to bother with any of that. They?ve told us ?just treat it as though it?s seasonal flu?. Now we are expected to wear just a normal surgical mask, a pair of ordinary short gloves, and a plastic apron that doesn?t cover all of you like a surgical gown does. I would see other patients around the hospital in the same scrubs, and the scrubs could have coronavirus on them" https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/16/im-losing-faith-in-the-leadership-a-doctors-story-coronavirus
  21. I've been trying to find data to support Patrick Vallance's claim that the UK is in ?the top three or four countries in terms of testing" . I can only find this table from 9 March on Worldometers https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/covid-19-testing/ which ,even with my shocking absence of numeracy, suggests to me that the UK is not up there in terms of testing . Does anyone else have more detail or views ?
  22. More views on whether virus spread when people asymptomatic or in early stages of illness . https://www.theguardian.com/science/2020/mar/12/coronavirus-most-infections-spread-by-people-yet-to-show-symptoms-scientists
  23. Mmm - seems this "a greater nos of infections where symptoms are v mild or practically non existent .Which makes it spread more ." is incorrect .It is thought that there is less transmission of Covid 19 before symptoms appear than there is in flu. But it is thought that a higher perecentage with Covid go on to develop more severe symptoms . sitrep 46 https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/situation-reports/ And I guess the most vunerable groups are able to have some protection from seasonal flu by virtue of vaccination .
  24. I could well be incorrect but I think compared to seasonal flu , Covid19 is thought to have a longer incubation period and a greater nos of infections where symptoms are v mild or practically non existent .Which makes it spread more . And we have vaccinations for seasonal flu.
  25. So head of WHO refers to inaction as one reason for declaring a pandemic " deeply concerned by the alarming levels of the #coronavirus spread, severity & inaction, & expects to see the number of cases, deaths & affected countries climb even higher. Therefore, we made the assessment that #COVID19 can be characterized as a pandemic. " I'm amazed that the Liverpool game went ahead and supporters from lockeddown Madrid joined a large gathering .
