  1. Yes SERIOUSLY . Do people not realise they are supposed to be LIMITING contact with others . So no markets and shops restricting numbers . And let people use their own bags !!!!!
  2. Sally - how lovely of you !
  3. I'm sure any government would struggle but the scenario where the experts were backing a let it spread a bit before we introduce more social distancing and then went "hang on a minute" lets look at the figures in Italy ,maybe time to change our mind ,just isn't reassuring . And while of course I wish her well ,isn't it rather early days in what we know of the infection's progress to be declaring Dorries' mother as recovered ? Chris Whitty citing it as a good news story smacks to me of scraping the barrel and desperation . Nadine was dx on the 10 March and reports came out on the 14th that her mother had also contracted the illness .
  4. In the first select committee on 5 March https://parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/a94cc1f0-4358-4a25-8b93-914675f6b9ff Jenny Harries, Deputy Chief Medical Office said that current capacity was 2,000 tests per day ( though i'm sure figures show more than that on some days ) and that it would increase to 10,000 from 13 March . Priority for testing needs to be given to HCP ,especially as there are now reports like this - "I treat patients who are proven to have coronavirus. One week ago, I was wearing full PPE [personal protective equipment]. That consists of a proper FFP3 mask [offering high respiratory protection], a visor, a surgical gown, and two pairs of gloves" "Now we?ve been told not to bother with any of that. They?ve told us ?just treat it as though it?s seasonal flu?. Now we are expected to wear just a normal surgical mask, a pair of ordinary short gloves, and a plastic apron that doesn?t cover all of you like a surgical gown does. I would see other patients around the hospital in the same scrubs, and the scrubs could have coronavirus on them" https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/16/im-losing-faith-in-the-leadership-a-doctors-story-coronavirus
  5. I've been trying to find data to support Patrick Vallance's claim that the UK is in ?the top three or four countries in terms of testing" . I can only find this table from 9 March on Worldometers https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/covid-19-testing/ which ,even with my shocking absence of numeracy, suggests to me that the UK is not up there in terms of testing . Does anyone else have more detail or views ?
  6. More views on whether virus spread when people asymptomatic or in early stages of illness . https://www.theguardian.com/science/2020/mar/12/coronavirus-most-infections-spread-by-people-yet-to-show-symptoms-scientists
  7. Mmm - seems this "a greater nos of infections where symptoms are v mild or practically non existent .Which makes it spread more ." is incorrect .It is thought that there is less transmission of Covid 19 before symptoms appear than there is in flu. But it is thought that a higher perecentage with Covid go on to develop more severe symptoms . sitrep 46 https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/situation-reports/ And I guess the most vunerable groups are able to have some protection from seasonal flu by virtue of vaccination .
  8. I could well be incorrect but I think compared to seasonal flu , Covid19 is thought to have a longer incubation period and a greater nos of infections where symptoms are v mild or practically non existent .Which makes it spread more . And we have vaccinations for seasonal flu.
  9. So head of WHO refers to inaction as one reason for declaring a pandemic " deeply concerned by the alarming levels of the #coronavirus spread, severity & inaction, & expects to see the number of cases, deaths & affected countries climb even higher. Therefore, we made the assessment that #COVID19 can be characterized as a pandemic. " I'm amazed that the Liverpool game went ahead and supporters from lockeddown Madrid joined a large gathering .
  10. super spreaders are people who shed more of the virus than others ,they're not people who have more contact than others .
  11. I wish the Gov would do more re containmemt .So far this seems to have concentrated on quarantining 2 groups back from Wuhan and one from the Diamond Princess .And contact tracing . I wish they would take steps to stop large groups of people gathering - Crufts ,Cheltenham . Is it just me ?
  12. which is a shame but not unexpected
  13. Have the boys from Dulwich Prep who were tested for corona been found to be clear ?
  14. I guess they are thinking outside the box - that's allowed isn't it ? Couldn't Dulwich College and the Estate do the decent thing and use some of the land bordering College Rd on the West to widen the road ,maybe make a turning point on the northern side of the entrance to Pond Cottages .Then the coaches can park there .
  15. Sue I have one of those adjustable back rest jobbies that TE44 posted .You're welcome to borrow it to see if it suits .
