  1. I'm sure it's not adequate to meet needs but that's not a reason for money to be diverted from cash strapped local authorities .
  2. worldwiser - I'm aware that pupils in a school built next to a main road in London will be breathing in polluted air . The question in my mind is why cash strapped Southwark is handing over ?17,000 when it appears that funding for capital spending on improvement is available from Central Government .
  3. I'd like to know what the criteria is for CGS funding . It all seems bonkers to me - presumably the mural is providing a "cleaner " vision of the wall ? Couldn't they just have increased the provision of cloth bags* ? We could put them over our heads, instantly removing all visual clutter and simultaneously filtering air pollution. In fact as we'd no longer be able to see anything and would be stranded at home this would reduce demand for consumer tat and traffic movement plus help the NHS by cutting demand for beds as we quietly fade away at home . I suppose the ED Harris Academy gets ?17,000 for air purification works because they have professional advice at their fingertips and were on the ball when it came to applying . It seems odd to me that Southwark gives money from a heavily slashed and constrained budget to a school funded by central government and having other central government revenue sources (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/school-capital-funding ) available for this type of thing . * I'll leave it to someone else to say "what cloth bags ? " . Oh ,whoops I haven't .
  4. Thanks Ilona . Aah those spontaneous pie needs are the devil aren't they ? yo saturnalia .
  5. Oh that sounds lovely Ilona .Any tips on how to handle the spinach so that it's not too wet ?
  6. "You say you wouldn't got to Small Claims - what would you do?" Actually I said I wouldn't rush to small claims .If it were me I'd gather as much info and get as much advice as possible before I decided what to do . I'd post on the forum I mentioned above and take advice from the one Ilona has posted . I would try and determine what the lease says and whether it is silent on the issue .I would find out why the ground level is above the air vents ,how that has come about ,whether any party is responsible for the ground level now being above the air vents . I might decide not to go to a small claims court ,I might decide to investigate the right to manage or buying the freehold .Or keeping the air vents clear if that's a possible alternative .
  7. I like https://forums.landlordzone.co.uk/forum/long-leasehold-questions for questions like this. I think leases can be a bit vague . I can imagine that your lease is clear about "the external structure and void below floor joists being the freeholders responsibility" but wonder what the position is about the ground levels and air vents . Whose responsibilty is it to keep/maintain the outside area in good order ? Is it mentioned under tenants or freeholders responsibilty ? I've seen some properties where there is a gulley round the outside of the building so that earth and debris can be kept away from air vents . I'm not sure I'd be rushing to a small claims court .
  8. Lou I find the best chocolate limes are available in Wilko ( Penge,Lewisham ) .Stock up as not always in stock .
  9. Me neither - can someone offer s pointer to a landmark ? Dulwich Hospital for instance ?
  10. One last year thread /forum/read.php?5,1992773 response from M&S was vague ,no promises , maybe there were other threads ?
  11. I did wonder if TW might pay more attention to S'wark .Thanks for explaining !
  12. Is reporting a manhole cover ,owned bt TW ,to a department in S'wark so that they can pass it on to another department who will then in turn pass it on to TW preferable to using the "Report a damaged or noisy manhole cover " facility on TW's site ? It seems odd .
  13. I think a very large Thank You is due to James McCash for his work here and updating us . A teacher and a councillor .
  14. Have been asked if I know of any men under 65 with Alzheimers who wouldn't mind taking part in a interview for research .They would be paid ?50 and their carer would also be paid a fee ( lesser amount ) It would be in their own home . Any interested parties please reply asap .
  15. of course if it'a drain and not a manhole cover ,it may be a different procedure .
  16. I report them to Thames Water https://www2.thameswater.co.uk/leak/ Enter your postcode and you will be taken to a page where you can report noisy manhole covers . In a road like Barry Road Thames Water will say they have to liaise with Southwark about directing traffic . Then after many many months cones will appear and signs indicating that Thames Water will be working . Nothing will happen and the cones will be removed . After many many months a few shovel fulls of tarmac will be thrown over the manhole cover from a passing truck . Sometimes the tarmac will set and remain on the cover deadening the noise . More often , as passing traffic drives over the soft tarmac it will be broken up and spread across the road .At which point you start over with Thames Water .
  17. Does anyone have a view as to which perform best in this hard water area? My newish ( one 2years old ) taps with ceramic discs are dripping like crazy .My old ones with washers are not . Of course I don't recall make/model of new taps and anxious about getting and fitting new cartridge .
  18. Please don't ban Christmas .I like fairy lights and environmentally friendly glitter .I like decorating things . I like public holidays and eating special food .
  19. oh no ,that was what I was hoping wasn't the case ! Thank you so much Penguin for explaining .
  20. Thank you for posting that Ilona . I've signed . Richard Ratcliffe's letter to Boris Johnson has shocking detail of how this case has been handled and of Johnson's refusal to engage . How can Johnson sleep at night ,let alone gurn and buffoon his days away .
  21. Penguin could you say a bit more about Honor Oak Park ,which roads ? Is a road closed ?Is it Forest Hill Road up to the station ? What are they doing ?
  22. Not since last night .Also re reading I note that Alice harbours some doubts about the "taking it to the vet" . I also note your suggestion that Alice could go to the vet's and check this out . Maybe they still have doubts ,maybe they feel the most important thing is that the dog and owner are reunited and that thew matter is closed . And can't be bothered to go to the vets in order make a decision about ammending a thread title on the EDF in case it gives the area a bad name .Or possibly they think that if people were that worried they might read the thread or even think "what nice thieves in ED ,returning stolen goods "
  23. Well now ,lets see ...poster busy with other things in life ,not their top priority ,missed Penguin's post ...
  24. Having read the Dulwich Foundation Schools'Coach Service study v v few of the "lots of options " seem to be acceptable . Yes the routes have been changed so that Calton Ave is no longer driven down but others( parking/more parking on school site/ using third party venues for parking, alterations to Townley Road ) either seem to be dismissed or deemed unfeasible /too expensive/dependent on Southwark's approval resources or are v vague "managing travel demand "
  25. The photograph looks odd to me as well . Roberts's left hand isn't touching her body and P.A.and Roberts seem to be looking in different directions . But neither P.A.or experts are going for the manipulated line ,so either there's a reason for this or I'm imagining things .
