It seems odd to have community wardens dealing with what are traffic offences .I wonder why they are there and not Traffic Wardens ,or even police support officers . I think the community officers can only warn drivers and then "if necessary" pass the details on for a penalty notice . Some of the coach drivers seem unworried by their presence ,I almost feel it's a question of them running their engines until asked to stop .

"Maybe we should get a group together and do a 'die-in' on the street at school pick up time" Oh Asset ,now that's food for thought ...and I can't decide whether all the objections circling in my brain are just excuses because I'm too lazy/old /tired . If it got some press coverage I think it would be worth doing and you can count me in .

One of the things that gets under my skin regarding this is the attitude of some of the drivers .Posters have complained in the past of this and I have experienced it first hand . The hostility and unpleasantness is something to behold .They ( though I imagine some are reasonable ) clearly have no intention and feel no need to co operate with efforts to reduce pollution or to respect other users of the road . Other blood pressure dangers are the length of time this has been going on and the inescapable feeling that this is a special case where the law does not apply and health and safety are no concern.

I'm inclined to agree Asset. I like Penguin's post, with the usual attention to detail ,from 2 years ago . Penguin68 10 November, 2017 10:50 On the basis that the school presumably is contracted with the coach company (even if it does not control the actions of the coach drivers) it might be worth writing to the school enquiring whether their insurance covers them for being sued should there be loss of property or life consequential on the blocking of access to emergency vehicles by the coach companies with whom they work, as the the problem of coach parking has been made clear to them on numerous occasions such that they could not claim ignorance of it. I doubt, based on some of the photographs I have seen, that fire engines could necessarily get through, and even where drivers moved to allow then to this would necessarily hold up their access. but I've not taken up his suggestion .

It's beyond me how it carries on ,if it were in Lordship Lane I'm sure it wouldn't be dealt with by one community support officer asking drivers in stationery vehicles to turn engines off and with illegal parking and road obstruction just ignored . Townley Rd appears to form a boundary btwn Goose Green Ward and Dulwich Village . I have emailed the Labour councillors James McAsh et al and asked him to forward my comments to his DV colleagues if appropriate .

Things don't seem to have moved on from this post from 2017 School coaches Townley Road Posted by Glemham 30 November, 2017 17:02 A few local residents met with the Foundation Schools' Coach Service Manager, Leslie Okyne. He has only been in post since the summer and is based at Dulwich College. He is very aware of the problems in Townley Road.In the short term he is hoping to stagger the arrival of the coaches for picking up outside Alleyn's. Although the 'coach base' is for 7 coaches, currently 13 are in use. However drivers who arrive later are finding parking spaces already taken by parents and visitors, including other coaches bringing teams for sport. The situation is further exacerbated because when the road was resurfaced in the summer some of the double yellow lines were not replaced so there is more parking space for cars. It's obvious to residents that there needs to be a concerted effort by Southwark Council, Alleyn's,and the Coach Service to find a long term solution for Townley Road. In particular we would ask that 1. the suggestions from last year's Coach Services Study [consultations.southwark.gov.uk] for shuttle buses to and from a coach park on the South Circular be given more serious consideration; 2. that Southwark more rigorously enforces traffic and parking violations, puts back double yellow lines, and considers having parking restrictions in the afternoons on weekdays outside Alleyn's say between 3 and 4 pm; 3. Alleyn's does more to control the congestion outside the school for the safety of all who use Townley Road at the end of the school day

An old problem as this thread from 2017 ,where all the old favourites that wea are still discussing appear. /forum/read.php?5,1879512,page=1 It all carries on .Last night a coach parked at j of Dovercourt and Townley opposite traffic island .Vehicles exiting Dovercourt and driving along Townley Rd having to drive on wrong side of road . Coaches parked outside bays . Engines running .Drivers with well practised responses - the "can't hear what you're saying " coupled with turning the head away ,"behave" ,angry shouts of "why are you taking a photo ?" ,"I'm just moving off " .The latter from a coach who had yet to collect a single passenger . A lone community officer was present but I fear he was outnumbered and not succeeding in his task .I wonder what the prescribed tactic is with drivers who ignore you and pretend they can't hear/understand what you are saying ? James Barber posted back in 2017 04 December, 2017 11:53 "Hi ZT, Southwark Council is about to implement - having made the Traffic Management Order in May, parking enforcement officers being allowed to warn and then if necessary issue tickets for people leaving motor vehicles engines running." and the community support officer confirmed that he could report coaches with engines running . I imagine giving a verbal warning to some of these drivers requires dedication to duty and a very thick skin.

Alleyns Junior School - planning
intexasatthe moment replied to Bicknell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think it was TownleyGreen that suggested that car parking could not be allowed on any of the open land ( inc the area fronting the main school building ) because it was zoned as MOL . -

Wasn't the planning application for the theatre building orginally refused by Southwark because it was to be built on MOL ? I know it was appealed and that it was dealt with by ? public enquiry . Anyone remember the details ? -

"bizarre approach of residents mini-referenda on each traffic restriction that Southwark seems increasing driven towards. It's a silly way to design area wide traffic measures that won't deliver the radical changes we need to breathe clean air" Well put rollflick .It's all smoke ( ha! ) and mirrors enabling S'wark to say that they are consulting with the public . They seem to place a higher value on "consultation" than action . -

goldilocks there is a current consultation collecting views on the DV area .But this is a part of a wider exercise and area which does indeed include North X road . https://www.southwark.gov.uk/transport-and-roads/roadworks-and-highway-improvements/street-improvements/our-healthy-streets-dulwich -

On reflection ,although I've only just come across it I suppose the map was put up during the first phase of this exercise and I guess it's no longer available for raising new areas of concern . Though you can comment on ones already raised . Which leads me back to my earlier post today - drop ins / consultations /touring stall held in the Dulwich Village area ,responses from these allow S'wark to tell us what "our" concerns are . -

"I don't think North Cross road is in the highlighted area." like I said .parallel universe time . It seems to be within the boundaries of the area/map being considered but it appears that you can only add comments to locations which have already been commented on . I'd just click on the nearest dot and comment anyway . But I'm a bit odd . -

I think the point being missed is that if you have views on this subject ,as well as debating them on the EDF,if you want them considered by S'wark you need to post them on here https://ohs-dulwich.co.uk/road-safety-hotspot/53?map=true -

In my opinion consultations are a parallel ( and expensive ) universe . I've been trying to follow Southwark on this one Phase 1 saw a large area -Upland Rd/Peckham Rye in the North ,Underhill in the East ,Court Lane/Dulwich Village in the south,East Dulwich Grove /Townley Rd ,Lordship Lane in the N. West -discussed at Dulwich Library ,Dulwich Village and the Dulwich Fair . Lots of comments from Dulwich Village area . Junction of Barry Rd and Underhill identified as top priority ,road safety hotspot , junction of South Circular with Lordship Lane no safe crossing for pedestrians as second top priority "what you told us "https://www.southwark.gov.uk/transport-and-roads/roadworks-and-highway-improvements/street-improvements/our-healthy-streets-dulwich ) Phase 2 Public mtgs held at Alleyns School and Half Moon Lane . Focus is on area west of Lordship Lane and the priorities from Phase 1 are parked( see what I did there ) and key locations are Court Lane Calton Ave Dulwich Village,Townley Rd/East Dulwich Grove Lordship Lane , I'm not clear how the priorities were achieved in the "What you told us doc " but in the June doc "All Suggestions " priorities seem to be based on number of comments and Calton Ave j Court Lane with poor air quality knocks out the accident hot spot on Barry Rd and absence of crossing point at South Circular /Lordship Lane . I guess if in Phase 1 you take your " stall on a roadshow to Dulwich Library ,Dulwich Village and the Dulwich Fair " then you're likely to get mainly comments on that geographical area . I guess it may also shape the next phase of the consultation .Particularly if the demographic of that area is particularly articulate . The recent meeting at ChristChurch concerned a v narrow area and didn't stretch as far as the junction of Barry Rd and Underhill .No doubt comments collected there will be fed back to support priorities . I see that the Dulwich Village area has meetings scheduled for December .It would be great to have a schedule of when other areas will have feedback mtgs . As far as I can tell ( not v far I'm afraid ) this https://ohs-dulwich.co.uk/ allows comments on various locations and presumably they will be taken into consideration by Southwark . -

Public exposure in this way still smacks of taking the law into one's own hands . And I don't agree that if other mechanisms don't work that public exposure is the answer* - it is too open to abuse . I'm not sure if other mechanisms were tried here ? It might be difficult and tedious ( collecting evidence and following the law can be ) but there have been succesful prosecutions brought where photographic evidence has resulted in a conviction https://www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk/article/3499/Public-thanked-as-Great-Yarmouth-Borough-Council-secures-20th-dog-fouling-prosecution-in-under-three-years https://nappyvalleynet.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=97988 https://www.stroud.gov.uk/news-archive/dog-fouling-costs-owner-1-000-after-stroud-district-council-takes-him-to-court * I appreciate it was not put as strongly as that -

Thanks for clarifying . It was this post that I clearly misread. "What IS against the law - and socially uncool - is having yer dog shite on the MAIN SHOPPING STREET in the town. And other streets locally. Every day. For years." Another case of is it a remark general in nature or is it a rematk aimed at someone in particular .The joys of the written word . -

Two wrongs don't make a right . I really disliked the mindset of this thread which to me smacked v much of vigilantism and seemed to be being proposed ( even if in a light hearted way ) as an alternative to the stocks "the behaviour has to stop and short of putting somebody in the stocks and throwing rotten fruit at them it isn?t going to be fixed." I was surprised that Admin allowed the pic to go up in the first place and even more surprised by Admins's posts which to me seemed ambigious ( an ambiguity which wasn't clarified when I questioned it ) and easily intepreted as supporting this form of public stocks . -

"Oh, tell us more, how do they know each other?" - nothing to tell ,why do you ask ? For clarity - when I say "I'm sure" I'm using an expression . Couldn't prove it in a criminal court ,but as KK has pointed out ,this isn't one .
