  1. I'm not firing on all cylinders today ,I've looked at the plan and I can't work out which barrier will be permanent .Can someone assist me ?
  2. Sorry if this has been explained and I've missed it but what is the rationale for the permanent closure ? Sorry ,I guess it's to improve air quality by restricting vehicle movement .
  3. why were the gates locked ?
  4. Sorry to be dense but how does it help with social distancing ?
  5. another waiting for a letter posted over a week ago
  6. Am I the only person who doesn't have a printer ? I used to go the library for the rare things I needed .
  7. " This [subsidence]" has been exacerbated in recent years owing to a lack of tree maintenance undertaken in order to manage water demand. " does this mean that tree maintenance reduces uptake of water and as a consequence reduces subsidence So less tree maintenance = more subsidence ?
  8. Swift reply from Julian Fowgies "Thank you for your email. I can confirm that routine pollarding/re-pollarding works have now been suspended until November. There are unfortunately a few trees that we have to work on prior to this in the interest of maintaining public safety and specific cases of subsidence damage mitigation (2 trees to be subject to removal owing to extensive basal decay/ 1 tree to be subject to crown reduction works associated with a subsidence case). As you may be aware subsidence damage to properties has been a particular issue on Barry Road for a considerable number of years. This has been exacerbated in recent years owing to a lack of tree maintenance undertaken in order to manage water demand. During the 2020/21 winter period we will be resuming re-pollarding works on Barry Road (and many others in the vicinity where London Clay is dominant) and will continue to manage the trees on a 2 yearly cycle in order to limit occurrences of future damage to properties and the associated inconvenience experienced by residents. I do appreciate your concerns with regards to crown retention and the associated environmental benefits with this approach and will adopt this wherever possible. As part of their pre-works assessment of trees contractors must undertake a wildlife check to ensure that no active nests are present. Disturbing nesting birds is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and as such I am very interested to be informed of any potential breaches to this. Next week we will be undertaking on site talks with all of our operatives in order to reiterate what is expected of them in this and other respects."
  9. This is probably a stupid question but can I log on if I don't have a smart phone ? I use a laptop with Windows 10 and a Chromebook .
  10. thank you for the address sdrs,I have emailed Julian.
  11. Genius idea Penguin .Think I'll adopt this approach myself .
  12. Slarti - standard and necessary procedure I grant you but should be done in winter .And still results in a brutal presentation . "Pollarding should happen when the tree is dormant, in winter, when its leaves have fallen. This allows the tree surgeons to manoeuvre more easily around the tree and see the shape more clearly, it causes less disturbance to resident wildlife and less stress to the tree as there is minimal loss of sap" which incidentally would be less aesthetically brutal ,less stress for me .Going from fresh glorious green leaves to brown stumps ,heartbreaking .Not to mention the destruction of bird nests . first world problem I know
  13. treehugger - you and me both . If they'd been done in the winter ,there would have been the canopy to enjoy the previous summer and a little new growth by now . the contractors say they have to look out for nests ,but I'm pretty sure they don't .
  14. Yes ,as I type . I made some remark to the chap donning a harness along the lines of "what a shame you have to do this now " and he said "it's fine ,we just have to be careful of nesting birds "
  15. I know we may be all be feeling a little jaded what with staying in more and something of a spectacle is being provided but.....what a shame this wasn't done in the winter .

  17. Actually James ,my brother who knows everything ( and knows he does ) tells me that the twin engined planes are just conducting aerial mapping surveys .And I'm only noticing them now because of the drop in other air traffic . Because included in his all knowingness is a knowledge of what I am normally alert to .
  18. Thanks for that link James . A circling twin engined airplane was really disturbing my peace the other day .Not least because I couldn't imagine what it was up to . As for hearing a hum - no chance it's tinnitus is there ?
  19. I'm liking your thinking yorksgirl...
  20. What about the place at top of Barry Road in/adjacent to the church .I believe it houses refugees ?
  21. Wouldn't it be possible for Lambeth to pay security to man one entrance and allow access for say parents and children ? Lone joggers ? Similar control ? People working from home all week/those doing essential work outside the home without access to a garden must be desperate for some fresh air ,especially those with small children .
  22. OK...just seen this Sunbathing in public spaces is against the government's coronavirus social distancing rules, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said. "We're absolutely clear that you should not leave your home unless it's for one of four reasons: for medical reasons, to buy food, to go to work if you can't work at home and for exercise," Mr Hancock said. He added that the rules that have been set out for public health reasons were "backed up in law". "It is not a request, it is a requirement in law and people need to follow it," https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52172035 I've not been paying close enough attention .
  23. Some of the pictures I've seen relating to this show a lone man with no one else visible for metres and 2 police approaching him . I'm not sure what he was doing wrong ,sunbathing and not exercising I guess .
  24. Oh OP poor son and poor you .GP sounds unhelpful .Seems like a no brainer that antibiotics are needed .Hope you can just take old prescription to chemist - Krystals in Nunhead are v good .
  25. Difflam is v good for sore throats .I have a spare bottle if that helps . Has he tried gargling with salt water and /or dissolved aspirin ? But if he can't swallow water that sounds serious .
