intexasatthe moment replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in The Lounge
Thank you SO much bobb ,I thought there must be somewhere ! -
I've tried sharpening mine - special gadget from Amazon http://www.eckman.co.uk/shop/p-859-shear-and-scissor-sharpener.html?utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_media=Product+Search&gclid=Cj0KEQjw6O-9BRDjhYXH2bOb8Z4BEiQAWRduk2k90QniUUE5nVDTTO1ckLpwgHui-KU2Xo3eRI5UB0caAqsX8P8HAQ and using a whetstone . But I have not succeded .Perhaps they're past it ? Is there anywhere that sharpens tools or do people just buy new ones ?

Lady on LL with accordion
intexasatthe moment replied to Louisa's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I hadn't really thought of it like that ,you have a point . But is it really just a simple question of offering something in exchange for cash ? I'm still tending towards thinking that it's a situation where someone is having to ask for money and that they'd rather not ,that they'd rather have regular employment or a pension . Though I guess there's a whole continuum ....those people who offer packets of tissue on trains ,the car wash people at Sainsbury's. -
Lady on LL with accordion

Not sure how to put this but ... when I saw her yesterday I thought ,oh no ,another person trying to get money on the street . A shameful and uncomfortable reminder of the state the world is in . I hate the thought ( but quite understand it ) that there are categories of beggars ,some seeming more attractive ( like this lady ) than others ( who maybe just sit on the pavement ). -
After the Consort Rd and Linden Grove junction ,just before the green . Foreign reg plates ,all the windows broken in . In the middle of the road .No police tape .No one around . One traffic cone . Does anyone know what happened ?

I think some https://www.amazon.co.uk/Control-Mousetrap-Reusable-Humane-Catcher/dp/B00V2A2IE8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1470250554&sr=8-6&keywords=mouse+trap+humane are more humane than others https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trixie-Mouse-Trap-4-5-17/dp/B000WFI866/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1470250554&sr=8-4&keywords=mouse+trap+humane but I guess they're both scary if you're a mouse .Though perhaps not as bad as the glue traps .

So he's weasled out of having to deal with the mess he helped to create .So he can keep his powder dry for a future attempt at PM . I almost admire his cunning .

From BBC news "Scottish National Party will today ask to be declared the official Oppositon at Westminster. They say their leader Angus Robertson enjoys more support than Jeremy Corbyn. There are 56 SNP MPs - but only 40 Labour MPs have expressed support for Mr Corbyn. They also say they are able to fill all the relevant shadow posts to the government, unlike Mr Corbyn. They point to Parliamentary rules which say the official Opposition must be "prepared to assume power." A source said: "We have looked at Erskine May (the Parliamentary rule book) and will put it to the Speaker that the Labour Party no longer meet obligations to remain as the official Opposition.""

London Mix "That's what Leave has always said" that's interesting ,do you have more detail ? Who said?
-
Mmm .Could that be what will happen ? No article 50 and new deal thrashed out . Did I hear that only 100 of sitting MPs in favour of leaving .500 not . Surely there will be little will to leave ?

I'm not keen on William Roses's attitude ( sure he'll be loosing sleep ) . When his shop was at Vauxhall he had signs up at Christmas time re ordering Christmas turkeys ." Regular customers only " In his LL shop a couple of winters ago I was told by staff that they weren't allowed to shut the door to the shop .When I said " well I'm freezing and how would he know " I was told that he watched them on the web cam. Now that the lovely Sabrina has left I wouldn't shop in there .

Birds being murdered in Crystal Palace Road?!?!
intexasatthe moment replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes ,yes but sometimes when there's a lot of noise one does use the colloquial expression " sounds like murder " . I'm guessing Sue understands the distinction between murder and nature . -
As I read it the land is transferred to central government ownership .Then it can be leased by central gov to the Academy . And at the end of the lease central gov will own the land won't they ? I'm not sure what term should be used to describe this action - taking land away from local authorities ? I don't understand the comment that reality is being rewriten .

Flats being demolished in Solomons Passage SE15

worth a try muggle .Well done . This bit from Wandle "We are suggesting that we work together for residents to appoint an independent advisor. The advisor would work for residents and one of their jobs would be to check what we are saying is accurate. We are looking for residents who would like to be on a panel that first selects and then works with the advisor. " sounds hopeful ,any residents tell us how it's going ? -

I keep looking at this thread in despair not knowing what to do or advise Can anyone think of another group of Housing Association ( or local authority for that matter ) tenants who have been involved in anything similar ? Who might offer advice ? Any local celebreties who might raise the profile - I can only think of Jo Brand and Jenny Eclair ... Has anyone contacted Shelter for advice/support ?http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice Does the Housing Corporation still regulate Housing Associations ? They must have a code of practice for situations like this ? I have to say I was depressed reading Wandle's information sheet ,especially this "Impact on Wandle The money we are going to spend on this project ? including buying back homes - will mean a reduction in the number of new homes we build and/or fewer improvements to our other homes. It is important that we are fair to residents of Solomon?s Passage and we have to protect the interests of all who live in our 7300 homes." I understand the points they make but the comment ,in this context ( ie an explanatory note relating to Solomon's Passage ) doesn't give enough priority to those residents affected .I think the focus should be on the residents ,and a wishy washy "be fair to " doesn't do it for me . I don't think that the resident's of these flats should be thinking about protecting Wandle's other tenants . It's Wandle's responsibilty yes, but it's nothing to do with the resident's of SP and mustn't dilute Wandle's response to them . -

Renata says "I can't get any firm response about what happened with building control inspections " is everyone reading that as Southwark being involved ? Renata's post also contains this regarding shared ownership residents " Others will move to temporary accomodation nearby and move back in 18 months time. " but Wandle only say they'll try and rehouse people nearby and warn that this might not be possible "For leaseholders and shared owners we would help them find alternative private rented accommodation equivalent to their flat. We would try and find homes in East Peckham, but this may not be possible." And is it just me or does anyone else struggle with Wandle's wording "They would continue to pay the amount of mortgage (and rent for shared owners) that they pay now and we would pay the private sector rent, up to the amount they would receive if their existing property was rented " -
