  1. > More on the Roma gangs stealing our heritage > [www.express.co.uk] It's not more. It's the same stuff, from the same source, as was in the Mail article you advertised on the previous page.
  2. > Ahh for the old days of Drs Brew-Graves, Ackland (my personal hero) She's apparently now at the Nunhead Surgery: http://www.nhs.uk/servicedirectories/pages/gp.aspx?pid=4c11a5d8-61c3-47b4-b7bb-f3c205b5f023
  3. > As far as that petition: Closes on 8 August 2012. And then... how long till action is taken? From http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/how-it-works#commons "If your e-petition reaches more than 100,000 signatures, it will be sent to the House of Commons. The Office of the Leader of the House of Commons will check it against: the terms and conditions for e-petitions the rules of the House of Commons Successful e-petitions will be communicated to the Backbench Business Committee. It will decide if your issue will be debated in the House of Commons." The existence of an e-petition doesn't of course preclude or substitute for any other action, such as making written representations.
  4. > Well Alex K I did read that metal theft is second on the METs list only to terrorism so perhaps they will act? BTP's actually. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-16165179
  5. I'd have thought the Dynamode you describe would have been the right one, sizewise and interface (IDE rather than SATA). What was the problem? Does he want to do a one-off transfer, or have it available permanently? I've the means of doing the former; might even have a spare old 3.5" caddy too, though I can't remember their state.

  8. It really would be helpful to work out whether it's an airborne thing. Could the instances have resulted from air coming in from outside? What directions do the affected rooms face?
  9. There was a strange smell thread a few months ago. I thought the only 'explanation' given was probably some kind of joke. But the reports of a widespread stench were real enough, so worth mentioning: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,695706,695850#msg-695850
  10. Is it coming up through the water waste pipe? In my previous place, I was once affected in my ground floor flat by a solvent that had been poured down the wastepipe in the upstairs flat, though I don't know what to make of the spread of the reports here. If it does seem a possibility, has anyone asked Thames Water's opinion, with a list of properties affected?
  11. > Whatever it looks like help is what she needs rather than a custodial sentence, and I'm sure that's what'll > ultimately happen and will be revealed on a tiny paragraph on p46 of a newspaper if it does. If the 2 December newspaper report cited on page 5 by ibilly 99 is accurate, that's more likely what would have happened had it not been for the publishing of the video.
  12. A general how-it-works page: http://www.cafescientifique.org/index.php/how-it-works
  13. > She pleaded not guilty this afternoon and was refused bail "Earlier, an administrative error led to the defendant entering a not guilty plea, but the court file was later amended to show she has not yet pleaded." http://www.london24.com/news/croydon_tram_racist_rant_accused_emma_west_remanded_in_custody_1_1146561 If there's no further bail application, she'll have spent five weeks in prison before the next hearing.
  14. > You could also try putting the make and model name into the search - other people may have had the same problem with this model. D'oh! I did, but I stupidly put them in angle brackets so that they were ignored, and didn't preview. Thanks Sue. I fear that, short of mantras, jemmies and pickaxes, we're running out of sensible suggestions.
  15. > ETA: And the power had to be on in order for the child lock to click off, if that makes sense. I don't know, but have assumed that, having finished a cycle, it would also default to off eventually if unpowered.. Gina, a web search on washing machine door won't unlock might be worth trying.
  16. Simply compare the tariffs and their changeability. For checking electricity usage, I've found a single ?8 plug-in socket meter, that measures consumption of one device at a time, plus the ability to read a main meter, record readings, and do a little mental arithmetic, provide all the information I need. For checking gas usage, ditto minus the socket meter. Not even a smart meter is going to tell you how much fuel you use for individual devices or functions, is it?
  17. You've switched off the power switch as well?
  18. If you've not definitely heard the click of the lock unlocking, you could try powering it on for a few seconds within a program, then off again and hope it unlocks. Unlikely to work, given that you've mentioned a problem with the actual handle, but might be worth trying, just in case it's the electronics that have got into a state that needs nudging. PS Actually, what silverfox says makes more sense. Try it that way, or at least the very end of a cycle.
  19. Another haggis hunting season, so soon.
  20. Using the phonetic alphabet http://www.dynamoo.com/technical/phonetic.htm is useful for reducing errors over the phone. The DVLA do say they will provide registered keeper information if given good cause http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla//data/relinfo.aspx, but presumably you won't need to try this if your insurers can deal with the other insurer.
  21. I've answered my own questions by going to http://www.boroughmarket.org.uk/page/3050/The-Governance-of-Borough-Market . At least it's open and transparent enough for you to find someone there, staff or trustee, to address any complaint or observation to.
  22. > A Market Warden approached me and told me I must move on. > Evidently, as I was standing still whilst I took my picture I was causing an obstuction. He didn't ask you to stop photographing. Is the market privately owned?
  23. Parkdrive Wrote: > So you think she's a responsible, fit and proper person to bring up a child do you? Next social worker applicant please. I think nothing about her. I know next to nothing about her. I have not seen the video. I would not dare to make anything but the most provisional and inconsequential of judgements of her even if I had watched it. I am glad that any authorities entrusted to make any significant decisions about her or her children will do so only after consideration of all available evidence and of all possible courses of action, and that any decisions about children will have their overall well-being as the main concern.
  24. > Sorry I can't have a parent being allowed to have custody of a child after launching into to a rant especially when > this person is obviously drunk, medicated or both. Apart from her noxious views she puts herself, and her child at risk. > Responsible parenting? Hanging is too good for her. Take her down. Next YouTube clip please.
  25. > This awful woman seems to have started a trend > It's a worrying trend. The only observable trend is of newpapers all flogging the same story, messageboarders following it, and subsequent buttons being pressed ad lib. And even that's not really a trend, it happens all the time. I think there are some boards that can more or less subsist on posting the day's Daily Mail story URLs as thread starters.
