problem with post not arriving on Underhill Road
louisiana replied to Jayne B's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've had 2 Amazon parcels not turn up in the last 4-5 weeks (and others before that). I find the RM online system is impossible to use for reporting this if you haven't sent the parcel yourself. There's also a new postie on this road *yet again* in the last few weeks who doesn't understand the house numbering and mis-delivers so much stuff. I get at least one item of wrongly delivered post ever day or two, sometimes as many as three or four in a day. I'm not on Underhill but nearby. -
Thanks Admin. Is there any way of recovering that text and sending it to me? I don't have a copy...

Have you ever cheated on your partner (past/present)
louisiana replied to ST&NLY's topic in The Lounge
When I launch my Mac Address Book, the first thing that comes up is 'Alison from Soulmates' telephone 07903302***, with a date stamp a full year before I dumped him. First I've heard of her. Nice. I found this by accident as I don't use the Mac Address Book at all myself. So, I clearly did the right thing to dump him, no? -
Well, given that everyone seems to be complaining, can I join in? I'm complaining about my post about the flavour of the Lounge being vaguely in the tradition of After Dark (RIP) and gave some interesting examples of After Dark incidents. Or they were interesting to me at least. And I don't consider the post was off-topic, and it was in the Lounge in any case, and in response to Admin's own point. So, I hereby register my complaint, because the darned thing has gone and there was nothing offensive about it from what I can see.

proposed pink cycle super highway to run down lordship lane
louisiana replied to TheArtfulDogger's topic in The Lounge
I rather like the vaguely After Dark flavour of The Lounge. 'Catholic priest Father Michael Seed was quoted as saying: "I went on a programme called After Dark on Channel 4 once with a prostitute, a psychiatrist and a gay man. Afterwards they all started coming to see me"[12]...' 'Saturday night's talking point was the demon drug crack, a subject which would normally leave this viewer in a state of lacquered composure. Again, however, one's hackles soon rose and one was up there, punching the air, taking sides. Unfortunately the debate was hijacked by a black musician called 'Blue', who shouted everyone down with non-sequiturs. Eventually he got up and left...' 'Since you referred to the edition in which the late Oliver Reed took part, this seems a good time to correct some of the myths which have surrounded the programme since it was transmitted on 26 January 1991. Although Reed was not the only disruptive guest in the history of After Dark, what put this particular show into the headlines was not so much Reed's behaviour as C4's. It took the show off the air for 20 minutes, filling the space with an old documentary about coal mining. When our programme returned, Reed was still on set and still disruptive. That night Reed's behaviour was certainly causing concern. But neither the production team nor host Helena Kennedy felt the situation was out of control. Kennedy told us the guests could themselves decide whether and when to ask Reed to leave the set....' Etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/After_Dark_%28TV_series%29 -
Create your own indoor wildlife garden: put a pile of logs in the middle of your sitting room, pour some water over it, and sit back on the sofa and relax as the beetles and bugs and spiders come out to play.

Proposed cycle superhighway to run down Lordship Lane

It's not rocket science that a red > light means stop...yet some cyclists, along with > some drivers ignore them in spite of driving tests > etc. I've counted more than 30 drivers jumping the red lights at the Plough roadworks in the last few days. Some of them put their foot down from almost stopped, screech past stopped traffic head-on into oncoming traffic in the same lane, attempting to reach 50/60mph as they do so. The behaviour has been unbelievable and really scary. Passing a test does not guarantee anything, as all these people have presumably passed a test, but seem to think they are on some kind of racing circuit. I'm all in favour of cyclists, and drivers, all following the rules of the road. But this is all beside the point. We are talking about safer routes. -
Proposed cycle superhighway to run down Lordship Lane

James, I agree with all your points. As I do a lot of walking, and shop locally, I can see the benefit on this. > Flip side it would send cyclists up and over Dog > Kennel Hill which frankly is not a route to > encourage cycling. Exactly. A potentially better route > would be via Crystal Palace Road and effectively > around the hill. That's my route: CP Road, then across ED Road and into the Peckham hinterlands, which is much flatter. We've also had some nasty, nasty accidents for cyclists on DK Hill. > Greendale would be a brilliant route but when I > spoke to TfL last Autumn they were concerned that > after dark peopl would be put of from cycling. Greendale should be developed as a route. > > What route do you think the cycle superhighway > should take that would get you cycling? The idea of a superhighway seems to be 'big road with big traffic. The standard routes are all about getting away from the heavy traffic, and that's far more pleasant. But more routes/choices of different types is also potentially good. -

How can that be too short? Are you sure you didn't have a 'competitor product'? Some of them are trash e.g. the Snuggie (too short and very much an inferior product). But now it's raining there's no further need to venture beyond the sofa.

But Oblomov had a valet. Do you have a valet? Or must you stagger about the place getting fresh supplies.

Top ten worst foods to eat........apparently!

Tripe! The very word brings me out in an Orwellian (Down And Out...) rash. It was stored under the table in a bucket was it not? -
The Slanket Gizmodo did a review of all Slanket-style sofa-lolling outfits, and the Slanket came out way ahead.

Last week I berated Dulwich Library/Southwark Libraries for not having any way at all of identifying documentaries within their DVD holdings, whether via the online catalogue or in person. Sigh. And on Pakistan, some lessons here for how not to manage land, anywhere in the world. Some coverage thankfully in the (Glasgow) Herald: http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/world-news/a-land-left-to-drown-by-the-timber-mafia-1.1051230

It may seem a little crazy, but for those of us who have actually reported burglary in progress (while the resident is present) to a police station not 100 yards away, only to be roundly rebuffed... and then who have had to face face to face threats of the 'we know where you live' variety from 'equipped' supporters of the crim in question while attending court as witnesses... etc. etc.... maybe not so crazy...

That'll be 1pm. There is no actual need to get out of bed (sez another freelancer)... even to contact your usual sources of contracts to check on project timescales; though I do tend to favour the vertical position for this task. However, I have popped down to the library to return a video (House of Mirth - anything but), have prepared the space where this afternoon's wood delivery is going, and I may even get around to potting up a few horseradish plants. A step too far may be getting around to finishing off some sanding... You could get yourself a Slanket and move your centre of operations to the sofa...

The trouble is, while you would never take Fox seriously, many millions do. And they tend to determine your future (the right in the US).

Perhaps you haven't watched Glenn Beck, strapline "the fusion of entertainment and enlightenment". If so, you will not comprehend exactly what partiality is. By comparison AJ is very grounded, very serious, and employs some incredibly professional journalists. It is a different perspective, but a perspective to be taken seriously. Unlike Fox etc.

What has happened to the Mind Shop?
louisiana replied to huncamunca's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree Loz. When the prices at a charity shop are as high as or higher than at Amazon (e.g. books) then the charity shop is not really providing that cheaper alternative for less well off people. I tend to give all my stuff to St. Christopher's. -
Horoscopes? Numerology? A 'mutual number'? You don't 'need a date': you need your head examined. Have you considered moving to Brighton?

The 'beliefs' of both Tone and Cherie were something to behold. And the advisors: Carole Caplin, Sylvia Caplin and Peter Foster. Some judgement shown there, eh?
