  1. As I said early on, kind of, cheese-eating surrender monkey is a characterisation that may or may not have elements of truth. But it's got enough truth (the French are famed for their cheese; the French as a nation do not by and large go to war; but could someone explain the monkey thing to me?), and enough pithy somethingorother to make it really catchy. So I suppose I'm looking for something that represents the US on the grand scale (something that many people do, something they are famed for producing), plus something that represents the nation/government angle. And perhaps some kind of animal ;-) All rolled into one.

Yup, it's when the prayer mats come out that the cat is out of the bag.
  3. Oh the Bad Seeds, they were so baaaaaaad B)
  4. They have a website. Not on there?
  5. People in the US invariably assume everyone is in the US, and probably around the corner from themselves. Just take a look at most websites. I get so many invitations, every week, to events in downtown nowheresville, which fail to mention which state they are in, let alone which country or continent.

I notice you don't hang out in the Drawing Room. If you did, you might welcome some light relief in the Lounge from time to time. The cheese-eating surrender monkey meme was massive; why not want to promote equal inventiveness around another target? Had a sense of humour bypass recently?

  10. Anyway, what I'm looking for is nice succinct names.

BBW, if you believe that the special relationship exists, other than as a one way street for the US of A to get what it wants, you are more stupid than I thought. Those people do what they say on the tin. EXCEPT, when it comes to public funding. Because while the good ol' US of A protests so much the virtues of private everything, their private firms receive huge public funding, and have huge lobbies to ensure it stays that way. They shout 'anti public' and then claim huge public subsidies. Under Bush this was rampant. For me, the big enemy in the US of A is corporate lobbyists with multi-million pound budgets, who buy senators and congresspeople. Someone tell me I'm wrong.

  13. As America outdoes itself, insulting the intelligence of the rest of the world (including the Scots!), let us turn the tables. What you call things matters greatly. The French may well be cheese-eating surrender monkeys, and whether you agree with it or not, the term has probably influenced the way you see the French. Let us therefore turn our sights on the US of A. We know that the South is known as Jesusland. But we lack at present the language to succinctly describe this nation in such crystal-clear terms as we have for the French and Germans. Let your imaginations run riot, why don't you.

    Scotland?

Yeah, they emigrated. Mr Louisiana is a Scot, from Bathgate. :)
  15. Perhaps Jammy just wants a number - a la 1.4 users currently online. Otherwise I'd question his motives. B)
  16. Yeah, shouting is not a good look. :-S

    Remix

The trailer for the current reissue of Hardcore Uproar by Together. Suddi, one half of Together, features large, with his crazy vocal. Bits of Daily Mirror cuttings (they misspelt his name, poor love), Anthea Turner on TOTP giving a shout out for the Blackburn ravers, Tony Wilson, Mike Pickering... All 19 years ago. Doesn't time fly. You can find the current remixes themselves on Youtube: Lee Mortimer remix One Man & His Dog remix And a recent in Blackburn. (And you can buy them on Beatport in full 320 MP3...) Sorry for the plug ;-)

    Remix

Not a remix (except of bits of Leg), but a great video:
  19. I haven't had one delivered for some time...
  20. HMG. No, come to think of this is a huge thing that cause me perfectly rational rage. :X Right, off for some archery practice on Mandy.
  21. Never went inside. I tolerated Puerto Banus for about 15 mins then had to bail out.

I'm with MP. Americans are hysterical. As in disordered. Their crazy take on a Cuban booking at a Scottish hotel not so long ago? An attempted boycott of Scottish firms. More Islay malt and Talisker for us. Bring it on.
  23. sanity girl, you have returned some sanity to my weekend. (How did I screw that up?) I reckon I'll go to the garden party (Saturday), dip into climate camp (Friday) and do one day on the investigations (Sunday). Bless. BBW, there's no hair in my armpits, I can assure you. But I've joined the no hairdresser/long hair club :)
  24. Sorry, guys, I missed one out: 5. Climate Camp.
  25. This coming long weekend, I'm torn between 1. Going to some all-day garden party in very nice place, awash with alcohol; and supporting an organising friend as well as having fun. 2. Spending serious time on a mid-term investigative project, on a loathsome but important subject (events mean it would have to happen over the long weekend) 3. Having fun at Pestival 4. Doing boring/serious/important things at home/office to make progress on them. I don't think I can do all. Too many choices.
