  1. Well at least we don't have a police force that plants bombs in bars in foreign country and kidnaps and imprisons businessmen in underground cellars; that police force being headed for years by a guy who was eventually found guilty of embezzlement, fraud, bribery and tax evasion... after having fled to Laos with around ten million quid of public funds. Yet. B) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/60444.stm
  2. So tell us, onvisa, what is a *good* reason for wearing a balaclava (under your riot helmet) at a demonstration in April in the UK? And a *good* reason for removing/covering your police number? Given that the big boss police man says you shouldn't.
  3. Hour long version, Honaloochie? I think the technical term is 'interminable'. It's the song that never naturally draws to an end. It just keeps on giving.

  5. No, they wore balaclavas (on the date of the G20 demos).
  6. When you call your bank and go through the telephone tree and you get this really annoying tune that may have been recorded onto cassette tape at a live concert circa 1975 with all the st-reee-tch-eees in the taaaaape intact. Hey, we live in a digital age. There is no need to play all your customers a totally distorted recording that you bought back when people wore loons :'(
  7. I think the ghost bikes are a great idea. As well as a memorial, they provide a constant reminder to motor vehicle drivers that they are in charge of machines that can kill. I wonder whether it would be feasible to ensure that each cyclist from this 'manor' who is killed on their bike gets a suitable ghost bike memorial... There is a description on the ghost bike website of how to prepare old bikes for this role.
  8. Thanks dazeykat. It really has been quite thrilling to see them woosh in and out. So unexpected. I guess they must be nesting in there, though there doesn't look as if there would be enough space to swing a... coal tit.

  10. I've just found this blog about mosaic murals etc. Lots of great ideas. I was thinking of maybe a grotty grotto, or something with an animal theme.

  12. I hear some private homes are opening their front rooms to diners in some parts of town. Nice idea. Unofficially of course.
  13. Or some old trout wearing a mullet and a dab of face paint and codling her-ring.
  14. I'm starting to develop generalised rage about everything and nothing.
  15. Do the police really have nothing better to do? Is this what you and me pay them for? http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/apr/16/police-delete-tourist-photos
  16. I have quite a few tiles left over from building work around the place. Mostly various shades of green (3), different sizes, qualities. Plus a bunch of odds and sods samples, including some glass tiles (various green and ivory/cream), some border tiles, and B/W mosaic. Also a box of basic white ones found on the premises. Nothing that would be enough for anything in particular. I'm wondering about the best thing to do with them. Perhaps create a mural? For inside? Outside? (there's a nastly wall outside in the garden that could do with some improvement.) Any suggestions gratefully received. (My last ditch option would be to break them up for root-binding for a fig tree.)
  17. Last year I was threatened by a gang of girls with a pit pull, on Lordship Lane. They were using the dog to threaten. It was a deeply unpleaseant and scary experience (I have twice been put into hospital following dog attacks and neary lost my leg.)
  18. I can see you're all floundering around here. Well, I mustn't carp...
  19. Likewise dazeykat. I'm pushing against the big 49 next month :-S Will check the RSPB site right now for pied wagtails...
  20. 13% chav.
  21. Yes, I thought wrens too. Right size, but flew past so quickly that not easy to say for certain. Will need to actually try to spot them as they whiz in and out. Very excisted by having birds nesting in the brickwork of the house. The hole is really miniscule.
  22. I seem to have two teeny tiny birds living in a teeny tiny hole in the brickwork next to a large window sill. They flew so fast in and out that I could see nothing except that they were tiny and perhaps brown with a white flash on the front. Will have to investigate.
  23. Did they have a gee-tar? You can't really do a propa rendition without one...
  24. I think this supports my posts on the thread about most played songs in public places. I rest my case. :)
