Drunken workers falling off the bus on a Friday night (woops is that ME!?) looking for some tasty grub. They could make a killing. Seeing as the co-op is so dire.

I am resurrecting this post as I am nearly through a book that details why Dulwich was hit by V-1 bombs. Why would the Nazi's want to hit Dulwich? Well this biography I am reading at the moment, titled 'Agent Zigzag; Lover, Traitor, Hero, Spy' by Ben Macintyre, tells of how Zigzag acted as a double agent in WW2. He worked with the German Secret Services known as Abwehr, as well as MI5's infamous Twenty Committee. Agent Zigzag was known throughout Soho's underworld as Eddie Chapman. A racketeer and crook. He stumbled into acting as a double agent and ended up giving disinformation to his German Spy Master, Von Groning, concerning locations and target points of the V-1's launced by the Germans. The Luftwaffe tried to aim for Charing Cross (which is where the Admiralty is based) but they fell short, always. With the disinformation MI5 reckoned that Zigzag could move the Doodlebugs further away from the centre of London into suburban and 'countryside' areas. This is one of the main reasons Dulwich was hit. To quote: 'The Germans seemed to be aiming for the Charing Cross area, but the mean point of impact was calculated to be Dulwich station in south London' Another quote: 'Chapman's deception messages have survived only in fragments. MI5 was careful to destroy the traffic, aware of the potential repercussions if the inhabitants of south London realised they were being sacrificed to protect the centre of the City.' This book is fascinating and for anyone who is interested in the history and complexity of WW2, I suggest reading it.

All Bar One is looking for ED home/Franklins organics in LL (Lounged)

Stope being so f*cking poliete all of you. East Dulwich has turned so much in the last year athat like costal British resorts, we can proudly twin ourselves with Le Northcote Road. -
So... I've had a few glasses of red and have come 2nd in the FHT quizz! Yes, friends, we came second in the FHT quizz. Sorry to repeat myself but I aint never come near the winning line in any pub quizz before. The questions were heavily based on WW2, and I happen to be a bit of an expert on that front. Now that I am happy and have that off my preverbial chest, I would like to say that Foxtons are doing their jobs. They earn a living. And that is all. The fact that their minis are all over the streets; like the vomit outside a Victorian Gin Palace, is neither here nor there. They're here, someone let them in. I will silently give Foxtons the 'freeze'...... What else can we do?

the FHT is a bit souless as it's still new. I've been there a few times, S'okay. As for Omrith, yes, lovely ruby! Sorry I won't be there, but you guys have fun! -
The poppy signifies the loss of life/blood/flesh in the fields of the Somme. That's how it started out, but now expresses the loss of life in all wars.

I collected for the Poppy Appeal last year outside St Pauls, on the cathederal steps. Well done Marmora Man for getting involved. Alot of the youth today have no idea what Rememberance Day is.

East Dulwich Garden Centre - possibly replaced with flats
MadWorld74 replied to TJS's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I am a regular of the garden centre. You want affordable housing in ED? No housing in ED is affordable!!! why are'they' taking away the facilities that make ED special. All this place will become is an area with trendy flats and bars and over priced god damn boutiques. -
excuse me but what are we talking about here? Warehouse? do you mean as in the high street womans clothing shop? Sorry if I've come into this off the hoof but what exactly do you mean by Warehouse.......?

Does anyone else live on Crebor Street? A lovely place. It is the smallest street in East Dulwich, and has it's own annual street party, bunting and all. Ryedale is fine.I wouldn't live any nearer to LL if you even paid me. What? dodge the Clapham blow-ins of a Saturday night rucking outside the kebab shop by Black Cherry? A faint warm breeze and one could be fooled that you were in the costa del. All the streets east of LL are great. More down to earth and less poncy than those verging towards The Strip.

CWALD....the two Bulger murderers DID get away with it though didn't they? Are they not protected with a lifetime's supply of anonymity. That is not God Damn prosecution in my books. I have lived in ED just over a year. It may well be that the forum is spreading the news if crime more effectively that the local papers, but I am worried. Some on this forum have said to stop over reacting. When do I stop? When someone else gets coshed over the head on their way home from work?

Attack - Oglander Road (at the beginning of October)
MadWorld74 replied to Blue10's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Don't wear bloody high heels ladies for a start! Wear trainers or something you can run in. Also don't look like a target. Walk purposefully and if you're in a dark street with no one else around walk in the middle of the road (no cars obviously coming up and down). That way you can hear and see if someone is coming for you and have more of a chance to leg it than you would walking along the pavement. I once had self defence training form the old bill in Brighton. When I moved to London and found that I really needed to learn more, the old bill when I rang them up said they could not give me any details about where to take classes as they have to be seen to act impartially. Bollocks. I'll just go down like a sack o spuds then shall I? I am at work now and don't finish for another hour or so, so coming home late at night and after reading these stories of incidents in ED has given me the willies. Keep those eyes peeled. Sleep well and don't have nightmares. -
I love the fact that Rye Lane was populated by Middle class, wWell to do Londoners in 1898 Ha! How things change! Where I live in ED is a pink area. Nice. Searched further East and saw that Bow was populated by the vicious semi criminal classes! The Victorians pulled no punches!
