[quote name=I don't know how much organisational effort is required to arrange a drinks date - only that it all seems to fall upon your kind self. If the burden is not too great' date=' one solution may be to revert to Fridays for the traditional Evening drinks whereupon Afternoon summer drinks would fall on the next day albeit at a different venue. That would retain the benefits of both occasions without the problems encountered so far.] very nicely put Hal... or we could do the above but have the daytime drinks on Sundays, I think people are often rushing around doing shopping and and other catch up stuff on Saturdays, and may feel more inclined to relax on Sundays... we could even go somewhere that does Sunday lunch for those who fancied eating as well. doing it this way would also allow people (who are strong enough for both) time to recover from the friday drinks!!! http://planetgreen.discovery.com/home-garden/images/2008-01/reuse-empty-wine-bottles.jpg -

oh damn and blast... looks like it all started just after I left (about 8.20 I think) got there early as I thought the 'day though to early eve' crowd would be there, wasn't sure if it was going to turn out to be an early or late one maybe a 'starts from' time for the eve would be good for next time... -

doubt it big time... EDF drinks have never been cliquey... it was my problem, nothing to do with the monthly drinks thing -

yes, nice to see you briefly Hal, of course I recognised you... so sorry I dashed off... my social skills had faded away by then I too hovered around for 10 mins felling like a bit of a plonker. There were a few big groups all looking well ensconced, for some reasons I didn't have the guts to go up to each group to ask if they were the EDF drinks, as KK says, not like me at all but everyone has their shy moments! silly me.... next time! -

I turned up, could not see anyone I recognised... hovered about for a bit, there were a few jolly groups sitting comfortably in their 'zones', bit pathetic I know, but had a shy moment, was not sure if everyone had been and gone so I totally lost my nerve and left...!!! x weedy cc -

Reading the papers this morning... a quote by Antony Gormley caught my imagination... what quotation lights your fire?? "celebrating how each of us is creating or contributing to a possible future, which is shared. That's really the core of it, and it's saying you don't have to be dead, you don't have to be a king, you don't have to have killed anybody; you, in your individual uniqueness, are a critical point in a shared world. And valuable." Antony Gormley?s ONE AND OTHER project for the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square will be live streamed for 24hrs on 6th July http://www.oneandother.co.uk/ The plinth will be occupied for 100 consecutive days, 24 hours a day, by members of the public who have volunteered to stand on it for an hour at a time. 2,400 people will be able to participate, they can do, be, what and who every they choose... what a wonderful idea....

it is amazing how on trend the elderly can be... are you talking about the facial hair Kel? or the floral shirt?
-
and of course cribbage... note elegant use of b/w floral print, teamed with striking pudding bowl cut and mid length wideleg shorts http://www.ker-mor.com/images/DANARSCH%202003-09%20tegus/DANARSCH-2003-09-14-0073.jpg an excellent hot weather look for Flanuers on the Lane

hhhmmm... pull off the look, not the ears Kel(!) http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/images/ju/jumbo-rubber-ears.jpg

And the grizzled asymetrical hair line is sooooo this summer, perhaps a stylish addition to the new Dandyism look that we are seeing on the runways both here and in Milan... Ear extensions are also back, as part of the 'retro gambler' look....I am sure Sean could pull it off. Absolutely agree about the button thread concept, Ted Max... it's all in the detail after all...

I quite agree keef, the choice is down to the individual... my rather stiff post was a reply to bignumber5's sweeping assumption that I am against uses of conventional medicine, which I am absolutely not....
-

[quote=But you were given a 60% chance of medication working and when it didn't you're using that as an arguement against all conventional western medicine? Very sorry to hear that too. ] please mote!!!! in ref to use of conventional medication I said [quote name=not always the best] which clearly states my view... conventional medication is sometime the best option BUT NOT ALWAYS!!! of course I'm not daft enough to use one personal experience, related to one health issue, as a basis to dismiss the value of all prescribed drugs in relation to all cases... that of course would be a completely ludicrous premis for an argument! When deciding to go on to a prescribed drug for the rest of your life, it is important to be aware of the side effect and possible long term implications... here are a few of the side effect Benjaminty might want to weigh up before committing to taking the drug for 'life' "Allopurinol: Diarrhea; nausea. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Allopurinol: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blood in urine or painful urination; dark urine; fever, chills, or sore throat; irritation of the eyes; joint pain; loss of appetite; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; stomach pain; unexplained weight loss; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual muscle pain or weakness; yellowing of the skin or eyes. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your health care provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. You may also report side effects at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch ."

the body... if you put a load of crap into it... you'll probably get crap performance out of it... I have a long term health issue and have 30 yrs experience prescribed drugs for the desease... here are some of the side effects... massive thumping head ache, all day every day sleeplessness (and I mean NO sleep) 'kidney' ache hair falling out puffed up face and rapid weight gain bruising at the slightest touch skin rashes (and loads more, but won't go on 'cos you get the picture) I got no benefit from the drugs (my consultant at King's said only 60% of those with the desease benefit from the drugs available) so.... now I have gone down the diet route and adjusted my lifestyle .... MASSIVE IMPROVEMENTS. I have learnt to manage the disease without drugs... so, IMO, best not to be sniffy about alternative methods till you've tried them... http://thehealthyskeptic.org/images/pileofpills.pngnot always the best
