July EDF Drinks - Saturday 4th July at The Rye Hotel
charliecharlie replied to georgia's topic in The Lounge
we could have some on a Friday eve and some on a Saturday afternoon and evenings could vary them or alternate them or do Saturdays for Summer and Friday eves for other less 'outdoor' month... or even do Sunday lunch time occasionally anything is possible, but I guess it is down to Georgia as she's the one who puts all the effort in, fixes them up and chooses the location I'm just delighted with the idea full stop, and grateful to Georgia who sorts it all out for us! -
I had a very good booklet (by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall I think) about sustainability and eating fish! It had a chart at the back that explained which fish were best to eat when (sizes, breeding periods, etc taken into consideration) and which were the least damaging to eat. I seem to have lost it (or put it somewhere safe)... Think there also might be a list at the back of his The River Cottage Fish Book, but not sure. It would be brilliant if they would publish the information in the fishmongers (but I guess that might damage their trade...) does anyone have the information and if so please post it on this thread! thanks xxcc

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7453584.stm "I need to meet with" what, may I ask, is wrong with 'I need to meet' "Ball park figure" ... approximate figure? "down sizing or letting people go"... lets face it, you're firing them "doing a brain dump" makes me think of someone passing time in the loo... "mission statement" how many times have I heard that used to describe a load of cliched, uninspired drivel it goes on and on just use http://www.bigtomatocompany.com/pictures/large/NOTEBOOK-plainenglish.jpg -

Hi Monica, really interested in the 'container garden beds for the local schools' project. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help... Would also be happy to make some sort of donation, winter veg seedlings, packets of seeds, some of my time, etc. I have plenty of experience related to working with inner city schools and kids, so hands on is also a possibility for me... keep me posted. Sounds like a fantastic community project... well done, you're a great asset to the area... xxcc

Hello... can you fit in a new addition to your evening of spices and merriment???? or are you at max numbers for the Curry Club??? xxcc ps Ganapati is brilliant; bit different from the average curry house, lovely service and great food (but hear Tandoori Nights is good too!) -
hhmmmmmm? Elizabeth Bennett has cropped up twice now, I always thought she came across as a wee bit smug and rather prim... not two of my favorite characteristics, but each to there own!

next time why not just say as he pops up to the loo "oh, if your going for a poo could you leave the the window open a bit?" you'll not doubt get a chance somewhere along the way to mention the hand washing malarky... however... my instinct tells me that if you already find his habits a turn off, you ain't going to love him for long!

bigbadwolf Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Mojitos? yes Mojitos BBW... they may look a bit poncey but the are strong as fcuk and are the taste of summer... I got hooked on them in a dodgy bar in Havana... never looked back... cuban rum (lots of it), fresh lime juice (lots of it), fresh mint (lots of it), cane sugar syrup, soda (tiny bit of it) delicious and a real rush if made correctly... http://theantiroom.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/mojito1.jpg don't knock it till you've tried it... -

what's with all the CAPS all of a sudden Keef... you are usually such an easy going sort of bloke... I pretty relaxed about where and when the drinks are... I have loads of friends with kids so maybe more of them would come if it was in the day time... but it is also good to sometimes have things that are more adult focused... surely there's room for both... also on a personal, note I don't really drink (alcohol that is) in the day and part of what I enjoy about the forum drinks is relaxing over a few beers/ mojitos/ g&T's/ glases of wine... or what ever my tipple of the week is... -

June EDF Drinks - This Saturday 6th June at The Herne
charliecharlie replied to georgia's topic in The Lounge
I think the Friday eve EDF drinks start the weekend off with a bang (no clever comments needed here guys, as no innuendo intended) and it seems a good time for the those with (and without kids) to let their hair down. It is also a great opportunity to meet some new 'adults' that live in the area. I prefer Friday eves... People often seem to be busy on Sat eves and are nipping about doing shopping and stuff in the day time. I am sure that a monthly family event would be popular, but it would be a shame for one to undermine the other. The Friday drinks has had such a good turn out and atmosphere and, though I love kids, a more kiddie friendly day time event would have a whole different feel to it. I have had an absolute blast when I have been to the evening drinks... and was really sorry to miss this one. Have put 4th July in the dairy... Keep up the good work Georgia... xxcc -
Project on encouraging people to grow their own - input needed please!

have you been in touch with Food Up Front? I am sure they would be able to put you in touch with their street reps and members... you would then have a really wide research base http://www.foodupfront.org/ to answer your questions... Have you ever thought about growing food at home? have the worlds tiniest garden 10'x 14' max and am growing courgettes and tomatoes this year I also grow sage, rosemary, chive, parsley, thyme, lemon balm, lemon verbena and fennel, as well as a mass of non edibles as well. It is amazing what you can do in a small space What's holding you back? space What got you started? I like to buy local produce and home grown has no food miles at all My garden is all organic and so the veg I grow fits with my 'values' It's fun and deeply satisfying! It's as fresh as it can be! What general implications do you feel growing food holds/would hold for you? as above good luck with your project xxcc -

Friday nights seem a good way of starting the weekend with a bang (no clever comments needed here guys... as no innuendo intended!!!) and there has always been a great turn out. I agree that a monthly family event might be really popular, but the old Friday drinks idea seemed to give those with kids (and without) a chance to let their hair down and get to know other 'adults' in the area... July 4th in the diary (though I have in the back of my mind that I am doing something else that night and have forgotten what it is... yiks!) -

I still miss Biren, he so helpful and was great pharmacist, he seemed to be far more knowledgeble than any GP I've ever had... shame he couldn't write prescriptions! He was amazing when one of the people who was working for me chopped the end of her finger off with a scalpel... he dressed it for her and saved us a trip to A&E.. it got better in no time... The staff, who are pretty much the same team, still seem just as helpful and polite... very nice people I can still pretty much get everything I want from them, the things they don't stock any more I can get from Health Matters or Farmers... two other great local shops...

What an 'odd' comment for your 110th post, Taper... Whynniard, thanks for opening up the debate, and welcome to the forum. I wholeheartedly agree, the increase in popularity of the extreme right, both here in the UK and across Europe, is worrying to say the least. UKip, who are hardly liberal in their policies, have also done well. The fact that Lib Dem did not scoop up most of Labour's losses seems both surprising and worrying, they seem to have some pretty sound policies and appear to be a solid alternative to those who no longer feel able to vote Labour. Hopeful things will balance out a bit by the general elections. I wonder if political disenchantment and disillusionment meant that many of the 'middle ground' voters did not bother to turn out last week, and ony those with more extreme views bothered! For those who did not vote last week... next time may be even more critical... http://www.pcs.org.uk/objects_store/make_your_vote_count.gif your vote counts
