That was organised a couple of years ago as I participated.. was very interesting. Clearly remember two cars zipping along so fast, couldn’t even get number plate!! So what is the point ? Raise awareness to drivers and now it is on EDF forum, those who speed along will just slow down and no doubt let friends etc know speed will be monitored which totally defeats the object of the exercise..- will prob catch say 50/100 if not - total waste of time.. Thought object was speeders not to know where it was happening or time ie surprise element and I am speaking from past experience. For those not use to this sort of community event - the idea is your presence and number place recognition means that the owner of car not individual driver who may be anyone using car will be sent a caution letter from police. All this said, will be interested to hear just how many were caught speeding on this day and time and if my guess is right..

Wow..has this forum gone down the pan.. Admin?? Two topics which do not make any sense at all.. Survey Horniman and asking for fireworks.. Sorry for fireworks - did not read clearly - my mistake wanted tickets..

Wow, never had a disappointing meal there since they opened.. guess like every establishment, depends on the chef.. All for allowing an off day - good of you to post.. much better than chains - had awful service at Gail’s for eg..be it cake and tea or a meal.. They are so nice and accommodating..

Hello, Recently there have been various comments made on the forum which have resulted in heated discussions being had. I for one, hold up my hand and wanted to personally thank whoever is keeping the forum going.. remember when it was likely to close. We are all adults and should known when it is right to continue or just ignore or if really feel it necessary comment via pm. I have had a long relationship with the forum and have bought, sold, offered advice and in deed made friends on the forum over the years. It is a public forum after all and everyone is entitled to express their opinion and is also free. I am not as tech minded as most but with the season of good will approaching and-knowing in this economic climate how many people are struggling, I thought it would be a lovely idea, to perhaps set up a just giving page to raise funds for a local charity who might appreciate a contribution towards their Christmas festivities… On a practical side, might just be to complicated to administer as I am sure all have charities that we support so my other thought was not me, as I am useless but to set up a just giving page and whatever monies are raised, perhaps contribute to the festivities that use to be run by local shops or whatever.. Maybe even use a local church hall and just make it special for perhaps folk that find it difficult to access events or no access for say wheel chair users.. guess really, one is looking for guidance from the church and of course volunteers. Shoot me down if you must or feel the need but this is my view and no, sadly I won’t be around in the months before Christmas but can help remotely.

If you want to self cater and do it yourself, why not try one of the rooms in a church.. one I am thinking about has a huge room with kitchen and toilets… parking on site.. and another one worth considering is the church near Dulwich Library , top of Barry Road.. pm if you want more info and of course.. all the pubs on Lordship Lane. if you want further afield, Rosendale Pub has rooms above bar area that you can also hire… Alleyns Head also good - section off a section of the pub for your sole use and parking on site.. although, might not work if try want to dance and play there own music. Kingwood House might also be worth considering…

I totally agree with jazzer having been “jumped on” by various members.. I try and help as that is the sort of person I am, but now will try hard to just read and not reply.. was down right hurtful to have a comment made along the lines that as I was no longer as person supposed, in ED and moved somewhere else should just leave group. No longer sure what sort of people are on this group - certainly not as pleasant as it was 15 years ago when people were pleasant, helpful and some things were a joke and much more light hearted. Everyone has a right to their own opinion as it is a public forum- meaning anyone can join from where-ever but c maybe I have got that wrong as well / doesn’t matter as I will probably leave…

Should facial recognition be mandatory for retail outlets?

Doesn’t this business at the tills already happen in some grocery shops? -
Well most of the time there are road works via one conpany or another which causes jams all over the place . Not little ones buy huge c ones when eg doing works near South Circular or somewhere along Barry Road, Peckham Rye, Lordship Lane etc so one would be lucky to get up to 3/5 miles let alone higher! Same in the city.. But, yup have done a speed awareness course and did register the impact a mile or to above speed limit does to an individual. Admire anyone who rides a bike in London period - doesn’t matter which borrow.. White vans, lorries, buses, cars, etc .. certainly not for me - rather walk….

Most of the groceries shops in Lordship Lane have a security presence…curious thing is I and another woman recently saw a shop lifter lift and not pay for a couple of packet of steaks, veg and bottle of wine.. Literally walked Pat the tills, one member of staff and security guard despite someone else going in front by a few people and mentioning person in question! I have to say, speechless and admired their bravado - I would not have the guts and knowing my luck, if I accidentally didn’t put something tru the till despite receipt would prob get stopped! Yes, worked with families, homeless and other people who were struggling for food so I do understand why they do it.. sad when you think about it, that in this day and age, all sorts of c people need assistance and help from community in general, food banks, olio etc…. -
Just not keen to have all these things in my body… having said that, thinking about Covid again as need to come to London to two hospitals for poss overnight stays.
-
Thanks for that - none of mine have been Mordena - whilst vulnerable cat, think I will just take my chances… Will be having flu though - certainly not by choice - much prefer not to but in vulnerable group.. Avoided them until last year…. Luck of drawer if you are as sick as fog or just sore arm … assume - god knows - that flu jab is same throughout country.

Wow, that is what it costs for one prisoner. So they get full board and lodging, 24 hour monitoring in over populated prison, we are led to believe, minimum exercise, assume a tv in each cell provided - in USA it is together with wash hand basin and c toilet - some have showers as well. Clearly this amount of money takes into account overstretched and overworked prison officers, protection for them, counselling which is, in my opinion a bare minimum dealing with prisoners in all settings. Do if Sweden can look outside the box, why can’t we? Or are we just not bothered at all / read statistics some where that reoffending is normal and to be frank, with economy as it is at the moment re employment, cost of living and homelessness..not surprised they reoffend to get back inside - food provided, roof over your head - much better than street living, mixing with wrong crowd, trying to get roof over your head, find a job where 90 % won’t employ you as been inside.. -

Well sure someone will correct me but years ago, in Singapore and I was quite young so not sure if it is true. but if you were caught stealing, your little finger or just the tip part with nail was chopped off. Stigma for life as all know that was punishment for stealing… no questions asked.Totally agree it is barbaric but equally putting people into overcrowded prison for minor offences is also not right. Tagging I guess would not work or maybe does… no idea at all. Not so long ago, heard a talk about how European’s cope/deal with prisoners and how the suggest rate is higher and offences lowered greatly as in not going back to prison for same or another offence. The general gist was their approach was each prisoner mattered , was heard and listens to and a suitable package was tailored towards their needs. Not b one package for all. Not cooped up for the majority of the day - encouraged as an example to cook, garden, grow food, other household stuff plus study if wanted for courses, languages etc. and mental health, dependency on substance abuse also addressed. Can’t remember if they were paid c pocket money which clearly accumulated or could be used to I purchase whatever in prison. If they can do it by experimenting and I think but not sure, at the time an English prison was learning why can’t this sort of program be rolled out throughout UK - cut backs not an excuse - think of the millions lost by govt during Covid… Maybe it is - no experience in the matter at all. -
Did you have the same covid jab as you have had over the years?

Really like living in a country where big brother is looking at you -, not that it is likely to happen in UK but crime should have stricter consequences.. not just put into jail which I gather is where more bad habits are learnt. -
Wow, well served with local supermarkets then… Agree with ATM.. good c position to been mugged or cloned card - prob why not been considered before. Wasn’t there one outside post office and still is2where people were abit nervous of using? Hope I am wrong but won’t see me rushing to use it…sure lots of folk will benefit thou. Not a great fan or user of Iceland but when it closed years ago people complained.. Guess they only b look at bigger sites - can’t recall an express one but a pity to those who frequent the store. Strange that Tesco can use it as local but Iceland can’t - guess it is power of large supermarkets. Personally would have loved an Aldi or Lidl but clearly site to small. Only grocery stores left to come are Waitrose, Aldi, Lidl…

I belong in “ should wear on” especially after bus and hospital visits last time I was up - a month ago and Gita virus which took 3 weeks to leave me.. In future, always in London especially in confined spaces..bus, tube, train etc, will be doing so. In vulnerable cat so can’t afford to get sick as have family responsibilities as well. On that note, only had 3 Covid jabs so far and very reluctant to get more… would like to avoid flu shot as well - only doing that as gotta come up for hosp apts in Jan.. had enough junk been in my body in last year - on that note, and I know it is personal pref/choice would be interested in hearing from other vulnerable as a matter of interest only - not judgement at all….

Krystal is great - short walk or hop on a bus… not sure if you can have both a sametime… assume your surgery doesn’t do it…

Hooray for libraries!

Well Carneige Library went through carnage a few years ago.. basement which had toilet facilities - just refurbished all ripped out to make way for health club - private of course. Hours of opening reduced… lock in protest that hit press against refurb plans! Now library much smaller than it was, community rooms available to hire - not cheap.. but folk now us rhe whole building as combination of library and community - choir, yoga/Pilates classes, stop in on certain days for health advice, etc.. cafe only serves tea/coffee and cakes as kitchen gutted! Hours of opening more than before so really win win.. those who have not been, know it is EDF but go have a look - beautifully building and use to be lovely enclosed garden at back. Sorry completely off track for Dulwich library…. -

Also has a free film afternoon once a month… shows a range of films.. Free as well. On first floor. Not great toilets but still.. Staff are all very helpful. Have lessons one to one if you need help on most computer issues. Can borrow iPad as well on site - ground floor. Extremely well stocked library with some new titles as well. -
Love Blue Brick and have had some lovely meals there,, never had a problem with service, always so accommodating.. Try and support local business, as much as I can.. on a recent visit, clapped my hands that Gail’s was done.. pity, as staff were great at the start, just went down hill …. Be, nice not to see another eateries..chain.. all for supporting individuals.
