Xmas lunch at local pubs/restaurants?
beansprout replied to Alisongb1's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Many years ago, I actually cooked a meal for all who wanted to come ….. In this day and age, with social media being in our faces..yes, I don’t live in ED, but visit, why doesn’t Christian spirit happen? I would think, few people even know their neighbours…. Life, busy etc. We all live in one world..human kindness is all around..In a city, people are scared to make human contact, especially when who knows what might happen. Can clearly remember, coming back in summer with friends, side door had been jimmied.. nothing was taken from inside.. When I lived in ED and when I visit, it is Me who starts a conversation.. never know where that might lead, or in deed where it might take one.. Notice my post, in general did not have response I was hoping for .. that is fine.. So, Will start again, and ask personally.how can I thank or make a donation to keep forum going.. We should be proud, to have a forum like this.. -
Oh yes, warning letter.. Fined, yes, speed course or fined..3 points in licence.. What I don’t get, is why now..? Cars speed up and down Barry Road .. Have done all the time, So, one lives in a city.. yes, most people know back routes.. Would it not be better, to tackle it in day light and night time?

Would think a lot of people care - tenants and landlords sine bill has been passed like I said either last week or this giving , I understand Tenants more rights. What Rachel has done highlights issues - and certainly I would have thought, impact on folks lucky enough to have properties around Dulwich or wherever paying agents a fee to a tenant for their property and/or also manage. Most agents I know belong to ARLA whatever they are called and have a code of conduct that they have to follow.

Might have left the job but says very little about agency management.. surely most companies have a hand over or would at least check that all was in place… how long does it take to just look at e mails to see everything has been done? Hoping this is not for real as I thought this agency was long established in the area…Buck stops with manager of rental department or Manager is overall charge.. Everyone likes to pass the buck on - own up, put your hands up, everyone makes mistakes…

Harvey and Wheeler in Dulwich Village? Only one I know… How can they offer to apply and never did? Surely; whether they are managing the property or not and with tech been so advanced I would have thought they would have been a couple of e mails sent as a reminder or, is it the Landlord’s responsibility to apply… Rental Law/ Bill has just come into force - can’t remember if it was this week or last and have been to busy to read.. However, will as assume it is not individual councils but all councils. Came up on Which on line.. Good point Jen Jen Jen - sure some knowledgable person on here can throw more light than I.

That was organised a couple of years ago as I participated.. was very interesting. Clearly remember two cars zipping along so fast, couldn’t even get number plate!! So what is the point ? Raise awareness to drivers and now it is on EDF forum, those who speed along will just slow down and no doubt let friends etc know speed will be monitored which totally defeats the object of the exercise..- will prob catch say 50/100 if not - total waste of time.. Thought object was speeders not to know where it was happening or time ie surprise element and I am speaking from past experience. For those not use to this sort of community event - the idea is your presence and number place recognition means that the owner of car not individual driver who may be anyone using car will be sent a caution letter from police. All this said, will be interested to hear just how many were caught speeding on this day and time and if my guess is right..

Wow..has this forum gone down the pan.. Admin?? Two topics which do not make any sense at all.. Survey Horniman and asking for fireworks.. Sorry for fireworks - did not read clearly - my mistake wanted tickets..

Wow, never had a disappointing meal there since they opened.. guess like every establishment, depends on the chef.. All for allowing an off day - good of you to post.. much better than chains - had awful service at Gail’s for eg..be it cake and tea or a meal.. They are so nice and accommodating..

Hello, Recently there have been various comments made on the forum which have resulted in heated discussions being had. I for one, hold up my hand and wanted to personally thank whoever is keeping the forum going.. remember when it was likely to close. We are all adults and should known when it is right to continue or just ignore or if really feel it necessary comment via pm. I have had a long relationship with the forum and have bought, sold, offered advice and in deed made friends on the forum over the years. It is a public forum after all and everyone is entitled to express their opinion and is also free. I am not as tech minded as most but with the season of good will approaching and-knowing in this economic climate how many people are struggling, I thought it would be a lovely idea, to perhaps set up a just giving page to raise funds for a local charity who might appreciate a contribution towards their Christmas festivities… On a practical side, might just be to complicated to administer as I am sure all have charities that we support so my other thought was not me, as I am useless but to set up a just giving page and whatever monies are raised, perhaps contribute to the festivities that use to be run by local shops or whatever.. Maybe even use a local church hall and just make it special for perhaps folk that find it difficult to access events or no access for say wheel chair users.. guess really, one is looking for guidance from the church and of course volunteers. Shoot me down if you must or feel the need but this is my view and no, sadly I won’t be around in the months before Christmas but can help remotely.

If you want to self cater and do it yourself, why not try one of the rooms in a church.. one I am thinking about has a huge room with kitchen and toilets… parking on site.. and another one worth considering is the church near Dulwich Library , top of Barry Road.. pm if you want more info and of course.. all the pubs on Lordship Lane. if you want further afield, Rosendale Pub has rooms above bar area that you can also hire… Alleyns Head also good - section off a section of the pub for your sole use and parking on site.. although, might not work if try want to dance and play there own music. Kingwood House might also be worth considering…

I totally agree with jazzer having been “jumped on” by various members.. I try and help as that is the sort of person I am, but now will try hard to just read and not reply.. was down right hurtful to have a comment made along the lines that as I was no longer as person supposed, in ED and moved somewhere else should just leave group. No longer sure what sort of people are on this group - certainly not as pleasant as it was 15 years ago when people were pleasant, helpful and some things were a joke and much more light hearted. Everyone has a right to their own opinion as it is a public forum- meaning anyone can join from where-ever but c maybe I have got that wrong as well / doesn’t matter as I will probably leave…

Should facial recognition be mandatory for retail outlets?

Doesn’t this business at the tills already happen in some grocery shops? -
Well most of the time there are road works via one conpany or another which causes jams all over the place . Not little ones buy huge c ones when eg doing works near South Circular or somewhere along Barry Road, Peckham Rye, Lordship Lane etc so one would be lucky to get up to 3/5 miles let alone higher! Same in the city.. But, yup have done a speed awareness course and did register the impact a mile or to above speed limit does to an individual. Admire anyone who rides a bike in London period - doesn’t matter which borrow.. White vans, lorries, buses, cars, etc .. certainly not for me - rather walk….

Most of the groceries shops in Lordship Lane have a security presence…curious thing is I and another woman recently saw a shop lifter lift and not pay for a couple of packet of steaks, veg and bottle of wine.. Literally walked Pat the tills, one member of staff and security guard despite someone else going in front by a few people and mentioning person in question! I have to say, speechless and admired their bravado - I would not have the guts and knowing my luck, if I accidentally didn’t put something tru the till despite receipt would prob get stopped! Yes, worked with families, homeless and other people who were struggling for food so I do understand why they do it.. sad when you think about it, that in this day and age, all sorts of c people need assistance and help from community in general, food banks, olio etc…. -
Just not keen to have all these things in my body… having said that, thinking about Covid again as need to come to London to two hospitals for poss overnight stays.
-
Thanks for that - none of mine have been Mordena - whilst vulnerable cat, think I will just take my chances… Will be having flu though - certainly not by choice - much prefer not to but in vulnerable group.. Avoided them until last year…. Luck of drawer if you are as sick as fog or just sore arm … assume - god knows - that flu jab is same throughout country.

Wow, that is what it costs for one prisoner. So they get full board and lodging, 24 hour monitoring in over populated prison, we are led to believe, minimum exercise, assume a tv in each cell provided - in USA it is together with wash hand basin and c toilet - some have showers as well. Clearly this amount of money takes into account overstretched and overworked prison officers, protection for them, counselling which is, in my opinion a bare minimum dealing with prisoners in all settings. Do if Sweden can look outside the box, why can’t we? Or are we just not bothered at all / read statistics some where that reoffending is normal and to be frank, with economy as it is at the moment re employment, cost of living and homelessness..not surprised they reoffend to get back inside - food provided, roof over your head - much better than street living, mixing with wrong crowd, trying to get roof over your head, find a job where 90 % won’t employ you as been inside..
