North Cross Road Market- today 10-4pm
beansprout replied to Sparkler's topic in What's on in East Dulwich
Totally agree with Alice…. Pity they can’t come to Northcross for those that find it difficult to venture to Peckham but then stall holders would complain. Excellent, as has been for years, fruit & veg stall in Herne Hill Market on the corner away from main entrance ie Brockwell. Comes all the way from Kent if memory serves me well, great prices to considering distance travelled / nothing like small mortgage of East Dulwich and Herne Hill like ED has been gentrified over the years. Much much better market than the offerings of North Cross Road… -
In the country, where I have relocated to these things and dealing with council for all matters are dealt with in days… freely admit less population than london. Certainly faster in everything. Not surprised at all about Thames Water - remember years ago calling them about a leak in road - then it took a week for them to come out, despite daily calls from me. Disgusting at that time the lack of concern and wastage of water. Unbelievable that they are not held to account fir anything and that goes for Southwark Council as well.

I have taken to not using my phone on pavements in London period.. feel very vulnerable around ED anyhow as am alot slower with walking these days. When you-think about it, surely we can all last until get to cafe, hospital, train station, shop, etc without this overwhelming need to see/check phone! Bus times are usually accurate when you tip up and never long to wait for buses anyhow. I use my phone alot during the day for various reasons but, trying to not use it is the real test. I have found that you can always ask someone who, generally happy to accommodate. Lanyard that Sue has suggested - good idea but still phone is visible in this heat I would have thought, assuming she wars it round her neck so personally, think it is worse as bikers, gangs etc can just rip it off as they pass.

Dogs out today in unbearable heat
beansprout replied to Enable's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ignorant owners / since ED is now full of middle class yuppies, yes very rude but I care not… one would hope that they would not drag their darling little kiddies out to the shops in the heat in case of heat stroke etc so why in gods name do they think it is acceptable to take their dogs out? If this is not ignorance or indeed cruelty, then please enlighten me…. -
You may have more success posting on ED facebook….personally, not a fan of social media but where I have moved to in the country, this seems to be the main way of communication. A suggestion for you - well a couple actually - there is a cafe at the edge if Telegraph Hill which might be worth a shot with a pizza stand attached - from memory think it is called White Rabbit or something like that. Cafe has odd evenings when they have music as well. Not sure if you are to young but give them a go. Get some leaflets/cards done and pop through letterbox or on car windscreen in local area offering your services to clean cars… sure you have done this already. Wish you all the best.

Experience in employing self employed person carer
beansprout replied to tomster's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Should have public liability by insurance, references from clients, years of experience, qualifications. If self employed, pension not your problem. On top of what you have mentioned. Hours of work? Day rate or hourly. -
Doubt you would have got much change out of £150.00 for battery and certainly having forked out for it, best to use your car. I recently sold my car via webuyanycar.com - very pleasant experience & was roughly what I was expecting. Pop your bangers reg jnto their website to get an idea of price - they do send e mails once a fortnight/month just as an aid for you. Easy enough to delete - don’t even have to read valuation. They literally buy any car - if you can’t get it to them, they will charge you to get it there or recommend a co that will do it for you. Must say, mine was a 2014 reg and whilst a bit suspicious, paid extra to get money into my account as needed it for next car but was assured funds had I not gone down route I took would be in my account within 5 days. I now live in the country - every time I have been back to Dulwich and surrounding area, normally get a fine for driving at wrong time or parking at wrong time so if I drive now, park in West or East Dulwich and do everything else by public transport and walking. Were I still to be living in ED then before I left was pondering this very issue but since I have been back regularly for health reason I no longer drive but take the train and then buses, walk or Uber. Much cheaper than running a car and had I stayed, that would have been the course I would have taken. I don’t go out everyday, have an allotment or job to go to or family so in my case, would be cheaper not to have a car. Was truely shocked at the cost of second hand cars…..but where I now live only has a smattering of buses so no choice but to have wheels to get from A to B etc.

WOW… Money and politics talk… Belair House has been a lost cause for years - surprised it has survived as c long as it has….but, if rumours over the years are true, “foreign money” … Most people these days in the village and surrounding area and let’s face it, either have inherited house, invested for own wealth or bought to be in catchment area for schooling both private or state, left to go abroad and rented, or bought by actors, sold to Russians etc.. Local knowledge years ago what was happening -

New Shops in East Dulwich and Nearby - 2025 Edition
beansprout replied to Joe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Dulwich folk well particularly ED folk have more money than certainly me - £4.00 for bread and butter? That is outrageous and I certainly would not pay £30 for an organic chicken - weird one is pate and runner beans combo. Don’t think butcher on Lordship Lane charges that but each to their own - live in Devon now and no way is an organic chicken that price!! -

Wow - you really mean £30.00 for a takeaway chicken? Dulwich folk have more money than me! As a matter of interest, what do you get? -
Well at least if he is in good health, will be with us for a long while. Seems to be a forward thinker as well - encompassing religion and universal challenges. Personally, wish him all the best.

Garage in West Dulwich by Rosendale Pub - been using them for years. Highly recommend them for all cars. Reliable and honest and will point you in the right direction if they can’t help. Were great with my VW.

Leave it white then new people can paint to their taste - that is why in show properties, they are white throughout or neutral. Def no feature wall. Might consider a lump sum for flooring as opposed to going grey. Ideally no curtains at all but if you wish then maybe blinds in lounge and bedroom.

Hi, My automatic nissan juke, much to my shock, having only done 50,000 miles needs a new gear box. Trying to decide to replace gear box or buy a second hand car - always thought Japanese cars were reliable and guess I have just been unlucky. Any advice greatly received - to buy a second hand car or replace gear box. If buying second hand would one suggest dealership or private garage ?? Thank you.

Surely they must be rated every couple of years? No idea why people stay with them but so be it. Plenty of alternatives locally so choose - stay or go.. Simple..
