Dulwich Estate - fit to run conservation?

Interesting to read what local residents are subsidising: http://www.spectator.co.uk/features/9383212/the-hidden-price-of-more-overseas-students-at-british-public-schools/ -
Black cab. (or my wife did, I came up by train and bus).

Which restuarants / pubs do Christmas lunch?

We had a brilliant meal at the Nuns Head (in Nunhead) last year. Relaxed and v friendly atmosphere, and no washing up.... -
Steve Backshall's book (it's supposed to be Willard Price esque)?

Can we talk about Christmas presents?!?

Our 6 year old doesnt seem bothered about minecraft, despite friends playing it and watching other people play it on phones etc. On the other hand, he LOVES lego marvel super heroes on PS3 and the new lego batman game is stop of his xmas list, which is probably worse. Games: dino run is a favourite simple game. And top trumps have been very popular after he got some for his birthday: as usual, how to train your dragon, deadly 60 etc are favourites. -

Time Out's local award winners in SE22 / SE21

tfwsoll - I like FCB's espressos although I had one of the worst americanos ever there. Bambuni in nunhead uses Volcano beans as well. I've only had toasted's once and wasnt especially impressed. I want to try Lerryn's. Otherwise mousetail by Peckham library are good. But my regular haunt is Alchemy by City Thameslink station. mmmm. -

tfwsoll - but where in Dulwich does do good coffee? (nearest places I can think of are Bambuni and Anderson in Nunhead/Peckham). Jah Lush - I think Nunhead was lumped in with Peckham, much as Deptford and New Cross were together, and bizarrely, Blackheath and Brockley were. -
Mike, to be fair Berlin still hasn't done it and doesn't quite know when it will. And it never has had a hub airport. (but not that I disagree with your points about Heathrow)

question re: holiday entitlement at work
njc97 replied to bonacara's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes, work out in hours. Or think about it as needing a half day of your 16.8 to take off Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or a whole day to take off a Wednesday. Way that makes sense to me is thinking about what would happen if you took it all in one go at beginning of the year: if you worked full time and had 28 days holiday, you'd get 5 weeks and 3 days off (or 5.6 weeks). Going part time you should still get 5.6 weeks off, but that's now 16.8 holiday days and you use 3 days of that each time you take a week off. -
"not one Hipster"? Apart from matey with the suit and flat cap on. Bet he drinks locally brewed real ale as well.

Brewers on Queens Road also have comprehensive range and deal mostly with trade: http://www.brewers.co.uk/branch-locator/print-details/?store=87 They will mix to match any colour, we used them to match F&B because we wanted gloss and F&B only did matt (or something).

How can I help my baby with a stuffed nose?
njc97 replied to Bluedark's topic in The Family Room Discussion
You probably do so already, but have you tilted her cot so that the mucus runs down at night? Couple of piles of books under the feet at head. -
Salsaboy: not, it's probably not the same cyclists as those who jump red lights, unless these bad drivers are waiting until they see a cyclist go over a red light and then targeting them for this behaviour, and that seems unlikely. Of course, it probably is the same drivers who jump traffic lights because they think that an amber light means "speed up".

LondonMix/James B - have any projections for demand for primary places beyond Sept 2016 been done? Isnt it now possible to project out another two years by looking at births to Sept 14? Also the projected shortfall for secondary place is ugly: 14 classes short by 2020. That's 3 schools!

jomou - 4 quarters is a retro computer game arcade. Reports that if you complete one game then you get kidnapped by aliens and recruited as a fighter pilot to defend them against evil invaders, are not yet confirmed.
-
Otta - isnt a "a nice place with things to do" just "somewhere gentrified"? People seem to conflate gentrification with rising house prices: areas that have always been "nice" or became gentrified a long time ago have had the same massive price rises. Louisa - I dont think people in, for example, Brighton, Axminster, Ludlow and many other places, think that gentrification is only a London thing.

Kids made to repeat yr 1 because of phonics test results
njc97 replied to ticket2ride's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Not sure there's any reason to jump on T2R like this - can't we leave that to the other bits of the forum? (we visited Hollydale and found the 1.5 entry confusing but a good idea once we'd got our head round it, for our old in the year son. Overall we were really impressed with the school, ahead of other, very well thought of, local sschols. Our concern was that he would end up best friends with someone in the other half of the class and get split up at the end of the year. Instead he went to a 2 class entry school and is best friends with 3 children in the other class anyway) -
As a warning, autumn timetable starts on Monday, so times might change slightly again.

Not sure about holding children back, but are you sure there hasn't been a breakdown of communication? "Wally's" has 1.5 form entry, so the youngest children in year 2 are in the same class as eldest in year 1. Then when the move into year 3, the youngest and middle kids are together and eldest are with youngest in year 4. Then it swaps back etc etc. -
What DMW said. A few trains have been cancelled, some other times changed as there are problems with tracks at Lewisham meaning they are having to divert trains.

Bakerloo line extension consultation open
njc97 replied to craigyboy71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The gain from extending to Bromley is to allow Bromleyites to change at Lewisham for DLR to Canary Wharf: going to Victoria and then getting across is a pain. OKR route has too much development potential to not get the nod (unless whole thing gets cancelled) - but I do agree with James B that a route through Camberwell and out would make more sense than a 2nd route to Lewisham (notwithstanding that this has potential to be more useful for me in Nunhead)
