  1. In getting a quote for a new stair carpet, it became apparent that the current carpet has been laid underneath the existing spindles. To replace the carpet, we need the spindles taking out and replacing before the new one can be put down. I can't imagine it's a huge job, but something that requires skills that we don't have! Can anyone recommend someone who could do this - ideally pretty quickly and pretty cheaply? Not asking much eh?......
  2. I live at the far end of Underhill and have just seen two 363's go past for the first time since Monday evening! That suggests that they can at least now make it up the hill. Good luck people!
  3. I think it's very desirable! ;-) 10 minute walk from Forest Hill, or West Dulwich, loads of buses. Huge living room and bedroom, and an exceptionally large garden. We were with Winkworth and weren't very impressed and moved to Acorn, who started off better but also seem to be pretty hopeless. We'll just keep plodding on I guess!
  4. Hi all, I have a one bedroomed Victorian conversion flat on Underhill Road that has been on the market for 3 months now. We have had quite a few positive viewings, one second viewing, have changed agent and reduced the price, but still no sale! The estate agent keeps telling us that the market is quiet, that things will pick up in September and it's not just us, but I'm starting to wonder how true this is. Is anyone else going through the same experience?
  5. Pretty insensitive Lasterlite. Even if you don't share the same feelings as anyone who has contributed to this post, you should be at least able to detect how upset the family who have lost their cat are.
  6. Is that the delightful Greenwich council Keef? As school staff we were reminded that 'If staff cannot attend their usual place of work they should contact their local school to see whether they can assist staff there." Brilliant. Needless to say, noone did.
  7. Something quite weird happened to me last night, and i'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.... At about 5pm I was walking away from the library on London Road (in the direction of the Harvester.) I was walking along and talking on my phone (which i know is silly...) when a young man ran up behind me and slapped me really hard in the lower back. He then sprinted off up the road. I don't know whether it was an attempted mugging (perhaps hitting me to see if I would drop something or loosen my grip on my bag?) or someone trying to slap my backside with a dreadful aim (although the way that he sprinted away suggests that might not be the case.) Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
  8. Not a clue about the legalities, but you can get them in Brixton too. I work in a secondary school, and one of our science teachers took pity on some and they now live happily in her Biology lab!
  9. Nope, definitely some kind of police 'incident'. The whole of Lordship is closed and there's a policeman on Underhill directng traffic.
  10. I work in a local(ish) secondary if that's any use. Eltham Green, unsurprisingly in Eltham. As far as I can gather it's always been as 'edgy' as it is now.
  11. I used to be in Archway, which involved the hell of the Northern line every day. I'm now in Eltham which is just as glamorous as Archway, yet a very simple 25 minute drive, or an easy bus journey. Much easier, particularly when I'm working late or wheedling my way home from work drinkies!
  12. We've had them in our kitchen cupboards - they're big fans of dry cat food apparently. Not nice.
  13. Not yet, but it's something i'm considering. How beginners is beginners?
  14. Nope, for my sins I work in the lovely Eltham Green. Most of them behave like 4 year olds mind......
  15. Keef, I too am a Greenwich council employee (although in a school and not in glitzy HQ) and got the crazy proxy anonomizer message. I figured that my fate was sealed and didn't go back to check later in the day. I'm now really hoping that sanity will be restored when I get in tomorrow morning......
  16. I would second Philiphenslowe in giving yourself the option of out of borough schools. I work in a secondary school in Greenwich, and although I wouldn't necessarily recommend my own, there are lots of very good schools which are an easy bus ride away.
  17. I'd say call the RSPCA or Battersea. They should be able to send someone out to get them out of the tree and check them over.
  18. Eltham, officially the arse-end of nowhere.
  19. Looks like Shena's been on the move again - we're at the junction of Melford Rd/Underhill Road and have literally just had a knock on the door. Again needed money for the meter, asked for ?4, and said that her husband Jerry would be round to pay back the money within the hour. This time she lived at number 73. When my partner said that he was sorry, he was pretty sure he'd spent all of his cash at lunch she asked him to go and check! He refused, apologised for not being able to help, and sent her on her way. Beware, looks like this lady's settling in for the long haul!
  20. My other half informs me that a certain Peter Crouch made a few appearances for DH a few years back on loan from Spurs.
  21. I also live around the Melford/ Underhill section, so will keep an eye out too. I have a small tabby and white cat too though, so will make sure she stays in in case someone mistakes her for Molly!

I was in the plough last week on two different evenings, and both nights young kids were in there trick or treating without parents. The general consensus from punters was 'you're a week early, come back next week'. The manager asked them nicely to leave both times, but to be honest the kids looked quite embarassed by the whole thing.
  23. "Just finished watching "Cool Runnings" - I blub everytime they carry the sled over the line. " Finally, someone else who cried at cool runnings! For years I've been the laughing stock of my friends for telling them I actually had popcorn in my eye.
  24. I'll second that Jah, I also use that newsagents and they're always really friendly. In fact, I owe them 10p. Must pop round with that, or maybe they won't be so friendly after all....:)
  25. Any ideas what to do with a celeriac? I just got one in my veg box and have no clue....
