I'd have to say the Gowlett..... The lucky 7s night is a winner for sure. Luckily for the clientele all my late 80s hardcore is 12" >:D< Great beer, Pizza good, friendly people and relaxed atmosphere. Also a table version of Galaxian ... how can you beat that? Just gutted I missed out on that house in Ondine a few years ago... although perhaps a good thing now I think about it.

Are the trains getting busier?
benjaminty replied to peckhamboy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think they are all getting worse. I stopped using ED about a year ago and jump on a bus to Denmark Hill. I do know that TfL is going through massive massive change and are looking to invest some serious money across London on all modes. They simply have to if they are to support the London Olympics. It's not just extension of east london line we always hear about but true investment in infrastructure across the board that TfL has been guilty of not doing for a very very long time. So I'd say that whilst short term things will be quite bad, it will get better. -
Reasons for late / missing post?

Cleo, Just out interest ..... did you ask Mr Page if he wanted his route back? why did he move on? -
Tinagwee, I gave up caffeine last January ... I too was addicted to the evil DC and Pepsi Max and then Coke Zero. probably gone close to never missing a drop of coke for maybe 20+ years so I know how it feels.... (a v sad admission there). I have to say, just being strong and going cold turkey is the only way... strength of will is best. Accomplish a month and just remind yourself that'll you'll be letting yourself down if you come close to breaking. This is really sad but all this talk of DC leaves me clucking for an ice cold one! Damn this thread! :'( Good luck..... it really is easier than you think and I have never ever slept so soundly!

Brendan, Ancient City represents something in the past that you want to change. Flipcharts show that you are needing to plan for something and the fact you have a gun means you have power. hmmmm maybe we could have worked that out. So what are you planning to change?

I find it blinkin hard to look up my dreams and get anything worthwhile from books or tinterweb. Quite sad but on the occassions that I have a truly vivid and memorable one I've taken to spending a pound and explaining it to AQA and waiting for a text back to tell me what it's all about. let them do the investigations! Brendan ... you're not an arms dealer then? Being the nosey b*gger I am .... I've just texted AQA with your dream.... I await response! Also going to find out why I lost a blue parrakeet on saturday night ... hmmm very odd

Yes yes yes SMac - gotta be the colours over SMBS and further down - particularly on a summers day. The fact that people I've never met before say good morning to me.... not so often now but it still happens. Never happen to me in other parts of London :)) Barbecue Pit for cheap and fantastic meals they turn out whether eating in or take away. View from Horniman Gardens across London. Judging by others respones I really should turn up to an EDF drink up!

LozzyLoz ... I get the daily updates from Urban Junkies but have never noticed commentary on ED. Will try and search it out as intrigued to see what they say but do you have the link to hand for the article please? Also agree ... seriously optimistic!

I jump on the wagon every January .... and it hurts for a few days. The sleepless nights where you're so used to the inebriation sending you off like a baby. But I've done my first saturday night without alcohol and this is the freshest Monday I've had in a long long time! Not looking forward to the birthday party next Saturday but by the time I get to the end of the month - my first beer will taste like never before... well not since last Feb 1st that is. Do it just to show you can! :)-D hmmmmm is that the right smilie?

Mr Horsebox! I think I started off well enough before and then you worked me deep (for want of a better phrase).. but I'm upfor a re-match! BT

People who put their feet on train seats..... seriously what's wrong with you? The guy who gets on at East Dulwich train station with THE (sorry caps haters) loudest personal stereo, so loud I can stand 20 feet from him on the platform and still hear it. Is it a PA system or a personal stereo? Have some respect! The day the last series of ER finished. The gits who sit on my doorstep waiting for a bus, refuse to get off my doorstep then threaten me, then leave a pool of spit, they're half eaten burgers and a couple of fag ends just for good measure. Bad spelling! Oh and no-alcohol January! Why am I doing this to myself?

a vegetable usually goes well with a cheese/creamy sauce.... but whatever floats your boat I guess... but then if he floats ya boat.. you could get off the island. So maybe I see your point :))
-
But then you'll get the munchies! And you'll be through your veggie-fruity-fun stash before you know it!

Now I wouldn't mind an organic bookies!????? Recycled betting slips. Fairtrade coffee and tea. But how to get rid of those horrible blue biros? Or are the working classes anti organic / eco-friendly anything? Ooops Happy New Year..

This morning there was a man standing on corner of Whateley Road looking very puzzled. No uniform but a Postie's pram next to him. I looked at him as if to say "you lost mate?". He then asked me the way to Crystal Palace Road. After admitting that he was delivering post, I directed him accordingly. Was he a Postie? Should he be delivering if he doesnt know where he is going? I have previously got on Buses and been asked by the driver where he is supposed to go so this shouldn't come as any surprise I guess.

Seems that a lot of the old Woolwich sites are going to bookies. We put in an offer to purchase another Woolwich branch in London Bridge and our offer was blown out of the water by a bookie; I'm talking by about 75% over our offer and well over double the asking price. Since advertising laws have changed on gambling, the bookies seem to be going all out for as much advertising as possible - but then they obviously need as many shops with good foot fall to ensure the advertising doesnt go to waste. Personally dont care for betting or baby shops.. we dont need either on LL

Can assure you that flat coke is not an old wives tale.... It helped me get on a plane to Morocco a few years back when flying was positively the last thing I wanted to be doing at the time. Agreed though - GP is a must by the sounds of it.

flat coca cola!!!!!!! As recommended by my GP a few years ago .... works a treat! :)

Simon M.. Is "your" Tony looking for more work do you think? Do you have a contact number for him pls? Regards BenjaminTy -
I think there is another question to raise here. Why is the UK become the drug users capital of Europe. Why do more Brits than French, Spanish or who ever choose to dabble, become habitual or addicted? What is it about the British psychie that makes us want to get blotto'ed so often. This is pie in the sky stuff but if we find the root cause of this then solve the problem.. Obviously not going to happen but would be nice. I dont think rehab is particularly good. It only works for those who want the help and even then the religious element of the 12 step program, which is deemed the best mechanism as I understand (I could be wrong) tends to reduce the credibility of the program with those that need the help. I know several people who have paid ridiculous sums of money to the Priory and have come out with little or no change to their routine (and BTW the Priory is rubbing it mitts together with current useage in UK). Only people I know who kick their habits have had to hit rock rock bottom before taking steps to address the situation. So how will legalisation or decriminalisation help? I just dont see it. Addicts will do anything to address their pangs and what they dont get on that legal basis they will go another route surely. I would prefer harder policing approach and try to ensure that scoring anything was a lot harder. My limited experience of Amsterdam was not good.... open hard sell approach by coke dealers walking the streets who wont leave you alone until you tell them you dont have any money and you're not interested. I have to say I'd leave this country if it got to that point.

dog kidnap attempt (November 29) Peckham Rye
benjaminty replied to Huggers's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
From what I've heard dog fighting is taking place in lifts in tower blocks nowadays. Owners put two dogs together in a lift on ground floor and send the lift to the top and see which one survives by the 17th floor... pretty gruesome stuff. And when you hear about American Football stars who have nothing better to do than organize fights and breed fighting dogs ... it just adds some bizarre cache to the activity I guess. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6962898.stm
