  1. yep twiglets are def made with marmite! All good in my book. I was trying to find some "lovers marmite" last week or so but just couldnt get to a Waitrose .. and then I received it this morning and if I did more the shopping I'd know it was available at all Sainsbury's ... considered myself told. ahermmm... Can't wait for breakfast ... infact why wait till then ... is lovers Marmite on toast a decent enough valentines day dinner? I reckon it'll have to do! :)
  2. I also live in Whateley Road.... and have the pleasure of hearing the utter nonsense they bellow out on regular basis. Threatening to set an old man on fire was a good one I heard last year... pleasant people. There is a third sister and a brother too..... although strangely the girls look like men and the boy looks positively feminine in comparison..... go figure.. perhaps the "inbreeding" conjecture could have substance. This lot seemed to have disappearred a year or so ago and then came back.... I know their neighbours are hardly pleased by their re-appearance. Anyone living in the road will know that they are being watched by the rozzas. I've never had a run in with them and do no real harm ... but equally .... wouldnt really want to get on the wrong side of them.
  3. Thanks Guys - I will drop her another email today. The Shabbey have now said they will do it for a ?25 charge .. if I wanted to pay that much in total I would have simply gone to the right shop instead of ebay. Final price was only 33 Euros. I have 100% feedback from hundreds of transactions bought and sold and never had to endure this rubbish ... ho hum. Another lesson learnt.
  4. Kinda agree with the sentiment on most of the posts. I really don't like being told to do something at the best of times let alone sit in a restaurant and force the conversation if you really don't feel like it.... and I WON'T feel like it tomorrow! As Rosie says you should always make the effort not just because Hallmark have said so. Flowers are no big deal are they? A small price to pay me thinks .. especially with the fantastic Alan Day down the road - they really are fantastic value there. BTW - nipple tasssles are usually a xmas thing in our household! Look good with tinsel ::o
  5. Don't end up regretting never having done something ... better to have tried than never known. Advice I haven't always heeded and definitely paid the price for it. But then I guess that could have applied to scuba diving in Ayai Napa .... so .... hmmm
  6. Really wanted a suite at the chelsea lodge but then I found an unbelievable decent place for a fraction of the price of everywhere else. $560 for 5 dollars for 2 people .. instead of >$2000 for an average place in times square .... no brainer... but I guess I havent stayed there yet! http://www.thesohotel.com/
  7. Hmmm yes well me being so presumptious than everyone does Paypal nowadays just lept in without checking. I have all her bank details but the Shabbey wont do it for toffee... and I dont know why.... but you reckon it "should" be that easy? I may try Shabbey again in that case......
  8. Does anyone know how to make a money transfer from UK account to a German account? I've tried contacting the seller to clarify but won't respond to my emails and now has created a dispute with me. I do want the item but am struggling to see how to resolve this. Anyone ever done this type of transfer before?
  9. saw Hope Powell wandering round LL and Northcross a couple of weeks ago. Am I scraping the "famous" barrel there?
  10. But you actually socked him too hard and left him with permanent brain damage and he never boxed again. No legend... no rumble in the jungle! Bad LozzyLoz! I wish that I don't win the 85million in the euro lottery tomorrow....
  11. Thanks for all your recommendations - a few interesting ones there.... Loving Chelsea Lodges ... but no space at the inn :( The search continues...
  12. But they were all corrupted by someone on the EDF! I wish someone made small hemp bags for my lunchtime outings to wherever....
  13. "Bovril" in Brixton next to the Ritzy
  14. But you die from an eating disorder ...... before you have a chance streak at the next world cup final... I wish the itchy feeling in my throat, eyes and ears would give it a rest...
  15. But you can't .. turns out you're just a green puppet with a freaky man's hand up your behind :) I wish I could get Thames Water to pull their finger out...
  16. but then the stench of the sewage from Lordship left it un-sunbathable? (hmmm) I wish to be a genius with my camera..
  17. I'm not sure how similiar this is to a circumstance I and my neighbours find myself in. Without going into too much detail a local "trader" has continually built on a property without planning permission. It has been to court and he has been found in breach of planning regulations and party wall agreements. Even with the law on their side the council will not take action and force demolition. Would be intrigued to hear how you get on though. Could you provide an update and when perhaps?
  18. Thanks Guys.... most helpful. Will have a dig around on these suggestions tonight. I stayed at the Hotel On Rivington on my last visit in 2005 and really enjoyed it (and the views from the bedroom and shower) ..... it just doesnt sum up the Lower East side for me. But I also want to be comfortable in my surroundings. May be I'm being difficult - or have I seen an opportunity here for a change in vocation? Thanks again .....
  19. Interesting thread Drewhill! I would say that that first thing to do is find out who owns the properties as you quite rightly pointed out. From my experience the Council know a lot about their houses and area but don't necessarily have the means to do anything about it. I for one, have a family living next to me who shouldnt actually be there, and have openly admitted to another neighbour that they don't know how to clean - now rats have been seen in their garden. And Council are well aware of them... The house is a mess in and out. As far as scaffolding is concerned - is it really be used to hold it up? Surely they would use tie-bars as soon as they could? If they are monitoring the situation with subsidence then they definitely wouldn't be using scaffolding as it would have adverse affects with the results. Seems a very expensive way to keep a house standing.... surely they should be taking remedial action? Are people actually living in these houses? Where abouts do you live? Off LL? I remember there being many houses around Muschamp that had a lot of scaffolding for ages...
  20. We're off to the big apple soon and trying to find a decent place to stay which wont cost the earth. Have been several times before but there just don't seem to be any decent places in the Lower East Side (preferred location) which aren't crazily expensive or just run down as hell - no middle ground. Anyone got any recommendations or good ideas?

  22. I saw this guy in the village last year and thought I imagined it! So it is true ... excellent ... so what exactly is he doing? Has anyone spoken to him? In their best Franglais?
  23. check out the montpelier on choumert grove .... think 3 veggie options were on last sunday. (one of which was toad in the whole admittedly) but the veggie options looked good. The pork roast I had has to beat anything I've had around Lordship hands down...
  24. If that hasn't put people off I don't know what will. I ran a mile after one viewing in 2004 with an Acorn guy. Explained in detail that I wanted victorian with period features. Dragged to me see what I believed to be just that (without spec) and showed me a 60s bungalow with "period" features ... They couldnt even do the basics. I rent out property and would never go anywhere near them. Sean - hope that however you have come a cropper with them that everything can be worked out. As a rule I think we can all be put off by Estate Agents actions but we all tend to deal with them with some trepidation I'm sure. We all have a bad story to tell. Hmmmm any connection with Acorn Antiques?
