  1. My point is exactly that, cutting spending isn’t the answer, reducing wasteful spending and improving financial management is. They are not the same.
  2. we actually need growth. It may be counter intuitive, but we need investment. my example is about poor financial management, be it personal or central. I'm referring to poor government financial management.
  3. There is a vast difference between cutting costs and not being wasteful. We cannot have the equivalent of not having the money to insure your car, while buying lunches in Waitrose everyday. You can have all the money in the world, and be a fool with how you spend it. Now, it's completely out of control. It has been for a long time.
  4. or cut costs. The cost of debt is a huge burden, it cannot be increased.
  5. try thrifted, gumtree, vinterior - lots of places
  6. does seem to take up a width of the pavement that could be better used (i.e. we have to walk around it) and I'm not sure we need advertising on the pavements. Perhaps there are benefit's I don't know of.
  7. Benefits include free phone calls, wifi, charging points, information etc. What's the problem?
  8. They should take responsibility collectively, as united team. Constantly blaming someone else, excuses. It's lame.
  9. I was going to say I have experience of working with the ombudsman, but seems you're covered now
  10. It's not really though, is it. It's practical. At least we're allowed Christmas lights.
  11. So what is the issue? You want compensation for the loss of value, or you want to expedite the matter?
  12. Legal matters are notoriously slow. There is no rule that communication has to be via email, fax or letter. If the issue is that you want to claim damages to the property because of poor practice, you would have to lodge a complaint with the ombudsman, but surely the one to suffer the most is the “gold digger” beneficiary? If that is not the wrong that needs righting, what is?
  13. So happy to hear that. She must have been frightened by the fireworks and bad weather. Was she far?
  14. That said, organised displays could be on Saturday before and after and the actual day, and private ones could just not have the loud ones. It’s all down to accessibility and people caring/not caring
  15. In part, it’s largely down to people not actually caring about anyone or anything else apart from their own gratification (btw, there are better ways to get a dopamine fix)
  16. Who does it bother? The bikes take up more pavement space and are far more untidy.
  17. It’s full-on consumerism season now until, well, Easter probably.
  18. Yep - fireworks are recognised for certain celebrations; not for all everyday, just because we can and we like shiny things
  19. You're clearly trolling. You cannot really be that selfish and entitled, that you would put a total avoidable stress on so many others for your own brief gratification.
  20. could be related to the three arrests yesterday. Without knowing, it is just speculation "All three men were arrested on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service, contrary to section 3 of the National Security Act (NSA), 2023 and they were taken to a police station in London." (Met News)
  21. that isn't what I said at all.
  22. What kind of witch hunt is this? mandatory facial recognition? prison for shoplifters? Shops can protect their stock as they wish. but they choose profits first. The obvious solution would be delivery only - and when you can get your shopping in 15minutes, who really needs to go to the shop? but no, the shops like the sales from people browsing and being hungry when they shop. They don't lay the shops out for our enjoyment. They don't actually care that much. If they did, there would be active and empowered security, lower stock on shelves, more security tags etc... don't be fooled. If you're going to go after shoplifters, go after the organised crime, theft to order etc
  23. I’d just like local family businesses to not be shut down by big chains, and I think we should support local businesses and our community. I’m sure they are very nice people who pay their taxes too.
  24. Our local delivery driver was followed and had his van stolen.
