I forgot to add.... If you're going near Palm Springs, stay at The Ace Hotel. It's uber-cool. I was there last year and had a brilliant time.

I've done a similar trip, only going the other way. We hired a convertible coupe which added to the whole road-trip feel. We took in the awesome scale of the Yosemite National Park landscape. Death Valley is incredible, there's a hotel in the middle at Stovepipe Wells, with an outdoor pool from where I watched a sandstorm race across the valley. There's an old goldrush ghost town nearby called Bodie which is well worth taking a diversion to see. San Francisco is full of places to see and the Chinese Quarter is full of great restaurants. Hope this helps.

I agree that the Guy's tower is old and ugly - I remember it features in the opening credits of the old black-and-white episodes of Steptoe and Son - however... it's where my daughter was born (15th floor I think), so I have a very big soft-spot in my heart for it....

Well done to Pompey - at least they can salvage something now from a disastrous season. Really disappointed in the way we played, particularly in the final third. Absolutely gutted that the goal was not allowed when the ball had clearly crossed the line before James palmed it out. But by then the game was lost anyway. Come on Reading!
