  1. It's nice to have a bit of a plan.... and see what else happens when you get there! no doubt you'll find some gems too :-)
  2. I'm sorry, but I don't actually know what to say when there are people on our streets who have nowhere to go - especially in the context of your request - for Christmas Day. If your friend needs to see her family, then the specifics of dates wouldn't really be such a big deal - would they? It would be cheaper after Christmas holidays, for instance. Have you thought about sending her a video? I'm guessing you talk to her regularly?
  3. KK - bit naughty, really rather funny.
  4. A car knocked an older gentleman off his bike earlier (around 8pm)on Peckham Rye and he cycled off before anyone could get his details. If anyone knows who he is - please let him know that the police came and have taken the driver, It may help if he came forward. And I hope he is ok - it must have been very scary.
  5. I'd like to take my nan to Australia to see her elderly brothers for Christmas - but any time actually - they'd love to see each other anytime - even for one minute. It would never have crossed my mind to ask for donations. Maybe you're starting something.
  6. fab idea
  7. Divide and Conquer - springs to mind. If we let this become separationalism within or of society, we're letting the politicians win - and we know better than that. I would suggest teaching tolerance at home to your children, seeing if you can influence the community positively. Breathe in hate - breathe out tolerance. Otherwise, we all lose.
  8. apparently they pay their 'contestants (what's the proper word????) in kentucky fried chicken. I know this because someone on the forum told me someone she knows....... well, I believed her....
  9. Jaywalker - I can't believe you brought sport into politics! ;-)
  10. go ahead POUS-T.W.C. alternatives with a positive tone. I agree with Malumbu - definite parallels to the UK where industry has left shadows and areas with low/ little investment.
  11. Malumbu - thanks for that! Really interesting; I particularly liked the phrase "Rural left-behinds" Cutting to say the least. Stinging. If not downright nasty. Assumed definition: "a section of society that no-one wants or gives a toss about, who don't fit in with the glamour and glitz of the First World".
  12. They're saying you shouldn't shop in places that use their revenue to buy advertising space in publications that are headlining immigration. consumer buying power is real power and we as consumers can make world changing impacts by putting money into ethical corporations. It's a very valid point to get across..... but they're being very specific in who they are targeting - I think it's misdirected.
  13. No, I was actually referring to the requests to have a re-referendum. Protesting against an outcome is of course expected. To try and divert a democratic outcome because it's not what you want - is not. The protests about Trump are of course expected. It will take a while to settle down. Clinton is not the first to win the most votes in number but lose overall. The first 100 days will be riveting.
  14. sorry - don't get it. Are StopFundingHate targeting companies that advertise in newspapers that have headlines that they think are not fact? Oh. seems a bit tenuous. Are they targeting the actual publications?
  15. there is one college with 8 eligible voters - which is a good explanation of why numbers in itself does not win.
  16. there were more than two candidates... and a vote for a third would have won it - if ALL non voters had voted the third option
  17. No one's saying they are. What the issue is - with non acceptance of democracy - is trying to have the vote re-worked so it can alter the outcome. That is outside the democratic process.
  18. no, I'd agree with DF..... The voters who didn't get the result they wanted are not accepting of it. That's pretty factual, Sue
  19. ??? An aging white population, voting for the days gone by? Get a grip.
  20. Hilary has a record of inciting war and devastating the middle east - and she can't distance herself. She's a dangerous woman and while Trump is a shock, I'm relived it's not Hilary. I do fear for America's people being allowed to become more racist, more homophobic, antagonizing the Chinese (is that a bad thing?), The WALL!!!!!! (what the hell is that all about and HOW?) and general more - up their own asses - and possibly forgetting there is a 'rest of the world' at street level. Brexit - Obama threatened to punish UK by sending us to the back of the queue in terms of trade deals - that's completely changed and the Republican victory has probably de-stabilised the EU even further. Watch the other countries vote for the leader who will exit. Interesting times. Short term/ long term are very different views.
  21. no, I mean it's awful as it suggests the driver was to blame/ negligent. Ergo could it have been avoided?
  22. they arrested the driver. it's awful.
  23. it shows people are disontented and willing to take a chance on the unknown than stay with what they know - and isn't working. Expect the same across Europe.
  24. Agree - asking for help is fine. Stop giving the man a hard time about it.
