  1. roll on Hallowe'en
  2. there's an incident where one clown was severely beaten for trying to scare someone.
  3. Are you confirming so we had ED residents entering the School site and fly tipping their rubbish? and the same on Peckham Rye?
  4. filling up yorkshires with whatever's on the plate and eating it like a piece of messy cake. We have a healthy respect for food.
  5. I don't think it's racist to say we don't want squatters on the site of our new school - potentially holding up the work. It just so happens they left the mess behind which is sadly a recognised behaviour. Unfortunately, by calling anyone who connects this behaviour to any other groups of travellers racist is kind of denying the obvious.
  6. clear error is paying by the week. Pay per job. The longer he takes, the more he gets paid.......
  7. Fully agree that children behaving in such a way is completely unacceptable. If that was directed at any other minority group it would be reported widely as racist. The fact that it is school children is worse. I hope the school takes it as seriously as they should. If my daughter was involved I would be mortified.
  8. we're not talking about ALL travellers. We're specifically talking on here about the travellers who have squatted on the park and the school sites and left loads of mess to be cleared. A number of people are very welcoming - and that's great. Some people are very wary. It's funny the former have all gone quiet now that that the fears have been realised. Next time travellers come to ED, we will all no doubt be split about welcoming them, tainted or not by the experience of this group.
  9. erm, it's really comments about the mess left behind and behaviours. There's a bit of a grey line in calling out racism. Or is no one allowed to condone this behaviour just in case anyone gets offended? that's part of the problem really.
  10. It's exactly why they have such a bad reputation and communities do not want them. And then there are those in our community who see the good and are welcoming, only to have this. While no one is expecting the travelers to integrate, there are certain things they should do, rather than treating land as a dump and expecting it to be cleared.
  11. cordrouy trousers and tupperware parties..... ED is trend setting without a doubt.
  12. Is the fact of the traveller's childrens' education somehow relevant to them being on the East Dulwich Charter School site? Are there children in the group that are on the land (which is private and therefore squatted)?
  13. do they cover your bottom? or have you got new pants as well?
  14. where did this speculation spring from? Are the children going to local schools?
  15. Practically, best to prepare for the worst and your phone being taken. I wouldn't advise getting into a fight over it. Take regular back ups of data (no lost photos) Regsiter with https://www.immobilise.com/ Tips on locking your phone so it can't be used - https://www.cnet.com/uk/news/android-users-can-now-lock-their-lost-devices-remotely/ If it doesn't benefit them to steal it, then it would reduce the thefts
  16. I believe it's due to start but not sure of dates. Either way, allowing a traveler's site to become more established would mean it's harder to clear later.... it would possibly get bigger too. While I'm not making comment about whether I think travelers should be there or not in general, it's better to nip it in the bud.
  17. KK - the 'rush' would be to clear the site so work can start on the new school building.
  18. we could have Fatbrad
  19. who owns the land? the new school's due to be built. also happy to add support in any way to ensure the school goes ahead without delays.
  20. you'll be surprised how naturally they take to a younger sibling. Just keep them involved... the more they can do, the better. They love to help. Perfect time to make sure they don't get jealous.
  21. how about the acronyms on mumsnet? DD (darling daughter) BM (birth mother) DH (darling husband) DSS (darling step son) EWCM (egg-white cervical mucus) - I mean, really?????? FFS
  22. Talking of chains, I'd not complain at all if there was a Busaba Eathai or Waga's. In fact, I'd probably eat out even more. Subway is just another thing to walk past.
  23. Our binmnen are really nice. They don't put the bins back in our garden either but why would they? Doesn't everyone who can put their bins out/ bring them back? AS for things being taken out of your bins - sure it's not someone rifling through them? In my experience they bin men either take it - or just leave it and I have to work out why... Never seen them selectively choose the bits they won't take.
  24. I think the question should be re-phrased. If you could do anything, would you do what you are currently doing? If you didn't need money, how would you spend your time that would give purpose to your life? If the answer is that you do not require a sense of purpose to be fulfilled, then that's easy. Otherwise, what would you apply your time to? What would give you most satisfaction?
  25. we have sky broadband and it's great. SKY TV can be expensive but we have basic package and cinema - we negotiated a deal as have been customers for so long. New customers also get deals. You could just get the broadband and then get a TV box or dongle for channels.
