  1. just an observation... that made me laugh out loud
  2. In regards to our particular burglary, witnessed by our daughter and leading to no prosecution: I have just been speaking to the lawyer at the CPS in charge of this case and basically, it's all down to being unable to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he did actually take our property - the balance of probability is just not a concrete enough factor when the principles of british law are to ensure that the innocent are not imprisoned - "We would rather that two guilty men go free than an innocent man go to jail..." This man will certainly continue to burgle and I can only hope that he slips up enough on one of these occasions to finally put him away.
  3. I keep taking too long to post and missing the slot that I intended to post in!!! Novice forumite!
  4. The letter I received cited three burglaries that he was involved in. I don't know any more details regarding what was taken.
  5. I've lived here for 7 years and have been burgled twice! ianr: my phone was returned, not the money, police don't give back money. I don't know about the other property or whether it was returned. I suppose it's a genuine problem when there are no fingerprints to prove he had taken them, but then any self-respecting burglar probably wears gloves, right? Either he or his accomplice was on bail for previous burglaries and even that seems not enough to get him off the streets. In all, it's an utter waste of time, money and effort. I can't imagine how disheartening police work must be at times.
  6. The person who burgled our house and frightened my daughter also carried out another two burglaries on the same night. I've just received a letter from the CJS to inform me that no action is being taken. So, if you happen to be a burglar, hiding under a car at 3am with several items of stolen property and a few hundred pounds in your pocket - don't worry! What a joke and what do I tell my daughter when she eventually asks me what's happened to him?
  7. apparently was a burst water main on lordship lane... all normal now but we did have murky water coming through for a couple of hours
  8. I think a tattoo shop would be better around Bellenden Road, it's rather trendy round those parts and has an arty vibe... just my penneth's worth :)
  9. My daughter had night terrors for several years, almost every night, some very short others lasting up to an hour, really quite upsetting. It was usually within an hour of first falling asleep. Like you, we had to just be around to soothe and watch our for her. I found that gently holding her had seemed to calm her and also, when she yawned, that seemd to be the end of it... I used to wait for those yawns! Any more interaction than holding her hand made matters worse for her. Earlier bedtimes helped and she also had fewer when her little sister moved in to share the room with her. She's eight now and they are, gladly, now a rarity. All the best with your little boy, I hope he grows out of them fast.
  10. I agree, getting out of the pool and walking to the changing rooms is particularly cold - I think it's worse on the family/mens changing room side. I think the whole area should be very nice and warm - after a good swim one doesn't want to risk pulling a muscle due to uncontrollable shivering on the way out!! (I should know, I've done it before!)
  11. One superfood worth mentioning is Spirulina - very high protein, increases metabolism and reduces sugar cravings. You can get it in powder or tablet form from Health Matters and I think they may also have snacks that contain it. I used to take it religiously in the mornings and it really does boost your energy levels. Check it out!
  12. That's interesting - and disgusting!! Maybe I need to invest in a wetsuit too!
  13. I find the level of chlorine too high. Without goggles my eyes sting for at least a day after swimming there. Obviously, I need to get some goggles but when I went there yesterday they didn't have any and I was told they are "not allowed" to order any more ...!
  14. This story has made it onto the daily mail website...
  15. It's always chaos! People parking where the path dips for crossing should be spoken to by staff. It is very selfish and dangerous to force groups of children into the middle of the roundabout. It's such a local school, why do they have to drive?! I know some that drive from Overhill Road!!
  16. How bizarre that the manager should behave like this when all charity shops have a not too pleasant smell about them!
  17. Walked down Dunstan's this morning, no cars on the road - something we never see anymore. It was lovely! The road's looking good, too.
  18. Ca ne fait rien - my french Grandmother used to say this all the time!
  19. Does anyone have a daughter that goes to Brownies in East Dulwich? I'm thinking of my daughter joining as she turns 7. I know of two centres on Barry Road, but have had difficulty with contacting the leaders. Any info greatly received!

  21. Goodrich School has a Christmas Fair and they are looking for stall-holders now! Give them a call :)
  22. Does anyone's child go to a local primary school where the art teaching is delivered by one art teacher, rather than by each classroom teacher? I'd be very interested to hear of such schools as I hope to offer art at primary level as a specialist. Thanks PS. I posted this in the family section, too, hoping to reach more people
