  1. EXACTLY the same women who did the same thing to us last summer, but I do remember getting a Victim Support letter from the police towards the end of last year to say that she had been arrested and taken to court. She is obviously mentally very ill to keep on doing exactly the same thing in exactly the same area.
  2. When I asked them yesterday morning(after I had climbed thru the fence) they said the weather had frozen the locks. As it was sunny and all the snow was melting I asked whether the thaw had unfrozen the locks. I just got a strange look as if this was a very odd question...
  3. We are on Tyrrell Road, close to Barry Road. Tried to turn on the tap just now, but nothing came out. Anyone else with this and anyone with any idea what I ought to be doing if it carries on. I am assuming its a burst watermain or something I suppose. Thank you!
  4. do you think that i can buy timer lights anywhere on lordship lane?
  5. do you think that something like having lights on timers work? i am thinking of over new year when we are away. we have an alarm etc but someone told me that its the houses where there are no visible signs of life that often get targeted.
  6. the back roads are always preferable - i bike to victoria and go via bethwin road/cooks road/kennington park place and then aim for black prince road and lambeth bridge. its a safe route, bike paths etc. takes 30 mins.
  7. Been mentioned once but have to do a shout out for Dragon Castle in Elephant and Castle - imaginative, beautifully cooked food. If it wasn't in such a dodgy area it would be one of the must-eat places in London generally, let alone SE London
  8. I often use this site http://www.bikely.com/ I do the same route to work - I avoid the main streets, so it takes a little longer but it is a genuinely nice bike ride. My route is Bellenden Road, then across to Cambewell - take Benhill Road, round Addington Square and then along Bethwin Road, connect to Cooks Road (Kennington), across Kennington Park Road, up Ravensdon Road, Milverton Street, then Courtenay Street to Black Prince Road which leads you straight to Lambeth Bridge. Sounds complicated, but take a look at an A-Z. Its all bike paths. Order the free bike maps from TFL website as well. Good luck!
  9. She and her daughter are on hols apparently. But will be back, complete with her new selection of ice cream...
  10. We are round the corner from the Gardens - its a lovely part of ED. The cafe in Peckham Rye park is great as is the coffee house on Forest Hill Road and the Herne Tavern and of course the best burgers in London at The Rye just across the park!
  11. she tried us months ago - this was for a locksmith as she had been mugged and the police wouldn't believe her!
  12. 9am till 6 on Saturday and 9am till 4pm on Sunday apparently. Lovely pain au raisin and coffee this morning. They could expand their breakfast menu to do eggs etc, but they've only been open a few weeks and I guess that they will expand the menu at some point Nice atmosphere. Loads of French folk brunching, has ED become the new French hot-spot??
  13. Victoria - by the time that I get bus to Peckham Rye station, the train and then walk from the station to work 45 mins. On a bike 25 mins
  14. anyone know if they open on sundays?
  15. I am actually on my way to cancel my membership this morning. I wanted to do pilates - for a monthly membership I pay ?139 a month (I need to check my direct debit, but it is around that) and while they are small 1:3 classes they are almost impossible to book. You can book the same time slots in advance, but if you need to change you end up paying a small fortune and not getting access to any classes
  16. For me I think that I have been most surprised by the poor and flustered (albeit it friendly) service. This is not their first restaurant so why does it seem to be so hard to get orders right or serve them up in a timely fashion. Weekends in restaurants round here are always busy, but that seems to have taken them totally by surprise.
  17. http://www.cyclemaps.net/L/gaz.asp That would be this site!
  18. This is the best cycle route cite that I have found - always safe, always quiet roads
  19. Had dinner there tonight (Friday) with my in-laws from France and while everyone agreed that the food was lovely, over a 45 minute wait for a bowl of pasta is just annoying. They took off the compulsory 15% tip, but the fact is that the "reason" was that everyone arrived at the same time. Ummm, that tends to happen at the weekend We will be going back, but certainly teething problems at the moment.
  20. Natwest just cancelled my debit card as they said that I had used it in a location close to my house which was under police investigation for card cloning. They advised me to keep an eye out in the local paper to find out which ED shop it was!
  21. I'm going to stick up for the Dr Boo girls. They have always been friendly and helpful whenever I have been in, their stuff is not cheap but you would not be able to find the particular brands that they stock for much less anywhere else in London.
  22. We had A-Ha "Take On Me". It was such a fun one to dance to - guess it dates me a bit!!
  23. and going back to your original question - really not a fan, food is not up to scratch, general attitude isn't either though the outside bit is nice for drinks
  24. or go from Peckham Rye
  25. I'd walk across the Rye and go to the Rye Hotel for really good food!
