  1. I am going back to work after maternity leave in January and wondered if this was the right time to start the hunt for a nanny/nanny-share? A few people have told me that its not worth looking too far in advance as people's situations change, or maybe I am far too late and should have started the hunt months ago :-( Also - does anyone know if there any specific places that specialize in bi-lingual nannies. My husband is French and ideally we'd like a French speaking nanny. Any advice would be very useful! Thanks.
  2. think that he is but seems to find boobs a bit boring to be honest - the world around far more interesting. thinking of trying to move him to a bottle so at least i can see what he is getting. i find its always hard to know if he is getting enough milk if you bf-ing
  3. my issue around weaning is that our little one seems to eat an enormous amount of puree, he just loves it! - I keep being told let the baby lead you so am keeping on going (and going and going) until he finally stops but I think at some point he might well explode :-) am i doing the right thing??
  4. Bee is light and totally the right buggy if you want to be on and off public transport (which we do) Also front facing which for a young baby I have found fantastic. We got ours on ebay and love it. Cameleon like a 4x4 car - too big for city life IMO
  5. Nice article about the importance of love and affection for development of babies http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/7910558/Babies-shown-affection-cope-better-as-adults.html Telegraph baby article Won't be new news but I like the wording of "showering babies with affection".
  6. Is the 1 '0 clock club every day on the rye?
  7. We had elective c-section at kings due to fibroid operation on uterus less than year before. Alfie asked if you have met your theatre midewife? we hadn't but we met with gemma john who did the actual operation twice and that made all the difference. lovely and reassuring to have a friendly face. I found the whole experience to be calm and quite wonderful (i hope that doesn't sound smug) Its incredible that we have the option of treatments like this. Also my husband found the birth really empowering, he loved the fact that he was totally needed - from doing all those nappies on the first day when you can't get out of bed, moving the little one from the cot to my bed. Its a real team effort. We had skin to skin, breast feeding worked perfectly. In an ideal world I would have wanted a vaginal birth but honestly the baby is the most important thing not the way that he or she enters into the world. Good luck! x
  8. and on at the Clapham Big Scream too!
  9. They are very good but are you registered with them at the moment as you might be too late for this pregnancy?
  10. Starting to think about high chairs and wondered if there were any specific things that I should be looking out for before we buy? Any particular models that seem to be better than others or do you think its all a matter of personal taste (babies comfort and your design leanings?) Thanks!
  11. If your church is strict you can always ask for your non-baptised friends who you want to be godparents to be classified as witnesses. During the service they do the same as the godparents I believe but they are entered into church books as witness and not godparent but to all intent and purpose for your little child they are godparents.
  12. Magic Blackout Blinds are great http://www.magicwhiteboard.co.uk/faqs/blackout/ You peel them and stick them to the window and can keep re-using them We use them at home and then when we travel away at weekends we take some with us - brilliant!
  13. Perfect as am heading to the new (meant to be lovely) cafe "No. 67" for lunch on Peckham Road at the South London Gallery - thank you! http://www.southlondongallery.org/page/3009/Caf
  14. Now that my baby is bigger (4 months) and heavier, I am struggling a bit with the way that I think I hold him while I feed. He is all squirmy and I think uncomfortable and so not feeding as much as I think he wants. I know that there are drop in cafes/sessions in the area as was given a list through NCT when I was pregnant but can't seem to find it now. Does anyone know of any things like this in the area? Thanks!
  15. You don't happen to have the number that you phoned do you? Thinking I should get my NCT gang to do this. Thanks!
  16. We got a second hand Bugaboo Bee on ebay and just think that its brilliant. So small and light - ideal for London and public transport. When I look at the massive buggies people seem to get it feels like the equivalent of driving a large 4x4 car in London. They now have the Bugaboo Bee Plus which means that the regaular Bees should be even cheaper than when we got ours.
  17. This may sound a stupid question but I need to take a mini cab with my 10 week old. Do mini cabs take babies? Do you have to request a car seat and what happens in black cabs?? Thanks!
  18. Really excited about this cafe - when is it due to open?
  19. Alice was my NCT leader - really lovely woman, full of useful and practical advice! Still need to get to the session...but I will do!
  20. OK so its not yoga or pilates but I found Legs, Bums and Pregnant Tums at Jags on a Monday night brilliant. Starts at 7pm
  21. The US brand Baby Jogger meant to be excellent
  22. I think NCT is great for partners to really get to grips with what's about to happen. It certainly prepared mine (as much as any course can!) We did the one that is weekly over 8 weeks and it gave us a chance to build up some really good friendships before our baby arrived.
  23. Mamas and Papas do a good one which lasted me thru-out my pregnancy
  24. You get access to the Peckham Pulse pool if you have Fusion membership. It's a very nice pool and worth the trip.
  25. Totally second Sillywoman's advice!
