  1. I dont think this society of ours would work if there were not a set of people over 50 who had been made redundant and still had active and able minds who run around after elderly parents and grandchildren, volunteer and run various charities and offer their time to help others ( their own choice). This set of people - and dare I say particularly women- are often cast off by commercial companies.IMO.
  2. Have you tried an Ecclefechan tart? they sell them in Sainsburys and they are delicious . Only have them in as part of their Christmas range.
  3. Best people to ask are those at university now who went to a local state school and ask what they think- or maybe wait till they have graduated.
  4. We are again running English Classes for au pairs near to the Library, Lordship Lane. The Thursday class is full, but we are forming a Wednesday morning class too, so please contact me for further details:- [email protected] The advantage of our classes are that they are local and 10-11.30 works well with nursery pick ups, and minimal journey time. Your au pair will meet other local au pairs and have the opportunity to practice their English is a supportive environment with structured lessons and native qualified teachers.

  11. I worked all summer on the chemists counter at Boots, Ventnor, Isle of Wight. All I remember of the summer of 76 is endless cases of sunburn and sunstroke from Londoners and Brummies saying " we weren't sunbathing we were just lying on a sun lounger.............." . Dispensing calamine lotion ( plus Ambre Solaire and aspirin).
  12. Mrs D that sounds really bad- surely they should be doing outside PE in Reception?

  19. I quite like a few slices of fried tomato and tommy sauce with mine.
  20. A slice of freshly made white soft bread with butter and marmite.
  21. I always joined my au pairs to JAGS gym- there are classes there they can interact with and meet other people. Other gyms are available of course. I also introduced them to other friends who had au pairs. I always took a full day at the start to show them around the local area- join libraries, showed them cinemas and explained cheap nights etc etc. Also i always made it clear that their weekends were their own apart from very occasional babysitting so they could go on day trips, stay over at a friends etc ( I also had a trundle bed so they could have a friend stay over) . Show them facebook groups for au pairs in London. TBH they will probably be keen to shoot off as soon as they can and explore London while they can.
  22. i would think a 6 year old would be going to bed at 7pm? theyre usually pretty tired by then.
  23. Sarah Vine has to be partly responsible! ;)
