  9. We have relatives coming from Australia, the first time for 13 years. I am really excited. All the presents will be edible/drinkable, and there will be one present each as in secret santa style. It will be great, we will go on walks, play games eat and drink ,share memories, squeeze in a midnight mass- I am SO excited. We will not eat out it will not be much more expensive than another week, other than we will have 2 birthdays. Bring it on I say :)
  10. Blade
  11. its also good to think what you are going to put in the hearth- either now or in the future- as there are regulations esp for gas fittings/ coal effect fire etc. A real fire can get very hot and you must use the correct type of stone ( as we found out to our cost)
  12. the upside is that you will never turn into a coach potato- and they will keep you fit- you may end up running just so you can wear them out! :)
  13. I would like to know how she has captured your heart Mr Dogman.

  15. I agree- I have been sorely tempted so many times- I am warned off and will tell everyone I know.
  16. Drumming Football, rugby, gym, swimming, tennis, squash, hockey, badminton, ,running, chasing balls, catch, balloon chasing, cycling ( very good at Herne Hill track ( and rollers too), triathlons are the best though!! Mini obstacle races in the garden, table tennis, basket ball hoop. The thing with the ball on a piece of a string when you whack it at each other- oh and boxing- because the training is second to none as a workout( Luckily that did not last too long). If anyone can think if a career for this teenager- which is not sports or the armed forces- please let me know. I thank you.
  17. and this from the woman that likes a nice pork chop!
  18. top tip- take them to a squash court when they are about 5 -you can hit the ball - assuming you are any good so that they have to run around its pretty good at tiring them out- only last until they are about 10 and start beating you.....

  20. while we are on the subject i think there is wep and wap and I cant remember which is better and how you up grade form one to the other. can anyone help? thanks
  21. Its Lambeth as well as SOuthwark as far as I know, and maybe other London Boroughs too.
  22. well there you are- yes Spanish employing Spanish. Parochial. As I said the British young people are falling behind and missing out. Maybe they are lazy, but at the end of the day wouldn't we rather they were working and not sitting around ?
  23. This is all true, but if you are 16-22 you may have had little work experience, unless you " know someone" and I just wish there was a better way of directing young people into work. They may not know where to start and what kind of training they need. Once you are a bit older you an make you own way, but its the first step which is so hard for them.
  24. Good point OD. I was just trying to think if we could make employers want to employ British workers, and there be some kind of system, such as when we see " all our foods are from sustainable sources" etc and apply it to employment somehow. ?? Some of the best and worst staff are not British. Perhaps restaurants are not the best example. The percentage staff employed would be across the whole company , head office, payroll, cleaning etc so there might not be a direct correlation with the food at the point of delivery. If you are a parent or work with young children the whole get a job/ get qualifications/ work for free as an intern it very unsettling. I think Dave R can give us some more leads!
