  1. Have you met an engineer? Everytime you go to a museum they have to look and read every single bloody thing. I spnet 4 hours in FLorence going round the Sceince museum. The only other peolpe there were a couple in their early 70's he was a retired engineer- and she like me was other half. Does this sound familiar??

  4. :) I loved Sheffield. When it all gets a bit much I suggest we move to the outskirts of SHeffield and we get the best of both worlds- City- theatre/ art galleries/ snooker championships/ Peak district. The rest of my family always look at me as though I am mad.

  6. In Cromer- ( not SE22) it smells of lily of the valley and talcum powder- maybe a bit of Tweed.Or possibly a hint of Brute/Blue stratos.
  7. Great memories of student life in Sheffield. All the extras in the crowd scenes were unpaid- you had to get up early on Sunday mornings to be part of Threads.

  16. Well quids I have now said that I have had 100% success with all my grads qualifying. (tu)I have also instigated dept meetings etc despite much reluctance on the part of others and they are still happening after 10 years (tu)- I think that what you mean. But other things like patience, interest in people are not measurable.I am not going down the crying in the toilets bit! I googled skills based cv and that was really interesting- I had not heard of that and it makes much more sense . Modern job applications are pretty souless on the www. Especially if you haev not had to apply for a job for 20 years... Thanks everyone,especially Tuffy.
  17. drastic step get a dog/ cat to protect him? Fit a burglar alarm down stairs- or if you have one already -start to use it downstairs? I remember a stage when the dog had to go and check my bedroom everynight before I went to bed.
  18. ?????'s , If you are applying for your first taching job I cant think of any statistics that would help. All I can say is that I have spent hours in the ladies toilets in the past 20 years counselling crying secretaries after being treated badly by the boss? I have improved staff moral by 100%? Made my targets? Who lives in a world where there is feedback as you suggest? Please tell me not everyone. WHo has the time or inclination? I have had 100% success in all my grads qualified? who is going to check? isn't that all bullshit?

  20. I think a vocational skill in customer service would go down well.Not to mention being able to present yourself. Good morning, how can I help you? Our young people ane woefully lacking in personal skills. Texting/ facebook messaging is not the same.
  21. Its really hard isnt it? we did a lot of manouevres on crescent wood road as it is so wide.
  22. I always thought they were there as ice breakers/ to see the candidates social skills. No longer?
  23. There is a big difference between after school care- 3.30 to 7pm say ( Maybe ?10 an hour) and babysitting ?7-?9 an hour - the latter being when child is hopefully asleep. Warning the 3.30 plus slot is harde to fill.Better off with au pair if you can fit one in.
  24. Made a huge difference to us- when we booked a hire car we always specified not a deisel.
